small town tradition

Post by Rodeo1 »

Every year names from the past show up on the court in tournament action.I see several names from the old "tri county league".We live and breath basketball here in our small towns.Basketball is the king of small town tradition. Please name some of the fine young men of todays hardwood with ties to the past.

I understand your post completely galaxie63. Evidently the two who posted are too young to remember, therefore they don't understand. Or they're just trying to be difficult. If they don't want to participate, go to another topic.

There was some good basketball games back when PHS played South Webster, Clay, etc. I'm having trouble putting some names together form those teams, but I remember playing South Webster when a hullabaloo broke out. Good times in the Tri-county league.

Like many I live and die basketball and find it interesting that I see the same names listed on the rosters that I saw in the years past.Good basketball IQ seems to pass from generation to generation.

Webster/Peebles.Ask Rose from Webster about that matchup.Seems his kids had great careers at Webster and on into collage ball.

Just curious, where is the tri-county league :?: :?: and the teams in it now or who were in it in the past.............. :?: :?:

I do agree that the small towns seem to thrive on basketball season as the center of attention for the townfolk......just look at the Convo in March........

I also see a lot of names here and there that make me wonder-- is that player the son or grand-son of so and so --or even daughter or grand-daughter

I graduated from Eastern in 1980 and Peebles i believe was still in the tri county league then. Some of the other teams in the league,i believe, was Clay, South Webster, Western.

Peebles was in the tri-county league for a very long time. I'm thinking from the 60s to the late 80s...www.wearetheindians.org has some of our stats from it, but it'svery hard to find complete records and standings from the TCL.

Green was also in the TCL with Peebles, Eastern Pike, Western,Clay, and South Webster I believe. Not exactly of the years though[seems like early 70's until 1979]. Flash would remember better than I would although I remember we won very few games in the league back then :-(

Tri county league, Peebles,I believe it was 1969-1983.Right around the time they put Locust grove ,Sinking spring and Peebles together,Other teams:Portsmouth Clay and coach Arch Justice,South Webster,Franklin Furnace Green,Beaver Eastern Pike and coach Cantrel,Latham Western Pike,.I think Seaman ,West Unionand Manchester. I think there were some years in there when Portsmouth Notre Dame was in that league too. Some huge rivalrys were born from these games.
