First of all, congrats on a good season at Waverly. Tonight, you brought it to us in the first half but just came up short. Great effort tonight and good luck to you next season.

Now to get to Logan Elm... GREAT JOB TONIGHT! You got down early (in front of a pretty loud Waverly crowd at that) but never got your heads down. The third quarter was the key; a flat start and you're in trouble but you came out swinging and came away with the Victory. ENJOY your win this weekend, prepare for Warren next week though.
Go Braves!
Go Braves!
Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
Two really good games tonight at the Convo with four good teams. I was really impressed with Waverly in this game. I thought they did an outstanding job of defensive rebounding especially in the first half, and played a very good game, but LE shot the ball well also especially on the treys, and Hauserman inside. LE didn't hurt them with 2nd shots. Waverly took the lead 23-16 and LE would come back and Waverly would answer twice, going back up 27-21 after it was cut to 23-21, and then going up 32-26 in the 3rd quarter after it was cut to 27-26 just after half. I thought the refs were biased against Waverly in the defense against Kretzer and in walking calls against Waverly. When they allow the defense to displace the offensive person and knock him off balance and he travels, it should be a foul, and likewise when they displace the pass receiver by a foot on the way down after jumping to receive the pass and it is not called a foul and the shot is missed due to being off balance, it is no wonder the 2nd half shooting percentage was down. I agree with the Waverly coach about LE being allowed to play physical, and I think it was a big factor in this very close game, most importantly when LE went from down 32-26 to up 38-32 over a short period. That was the key period of the game when Waverly came up dry on a few possessions there, but I thought they were still playing well during that 12-0 run by LE. But take nothing away from LE, they did a wonderful job on offense, making many of their first shots which they needed to since they weren't getting many 2nd shots on misses, and if the refs are going to let you get by with that physical strategy more power to them for taking advantage of how the calls, or lack of, were going.

Let's not get on the refs too bad; they allowed Waverly a lot of stuff too. I don't think the refs had much bias toward Waverly when they allowed a kid to carry on without calling a technical. They had to stop the game in back to back posessions to calm him down, and then it takes a teamate to put him in a headlock and had to stop the game to get him off the court. I realize a T is the last possible resort, but in that case I think one was deserved.

Great comeback by logan Elm. I thought that Waverly really lost their composure in the second half. Martin played a great game for Waverly.

The officiating crew was pitiful. Flagrant foul when Kretzer shoots a trey. How can you miss that when the ref was right there? So how does the official react ? He taunts the player, chasing him. Moving screens all night by LE and Tigers get fouls called on them, for trying to get thru them. LE traveled all night, rolling on the floor with the ball, sometimes out of bounds and no whistle? C'mon !
This seemed to frustrate the Tigers and it showed, while LE stayed composed down the stretch. The Braves are a well coached team and they are very good. I wish them luck the rest of the way.
Nice run by the Tigers, time to play some AAU ball and hit the playgrounds this summer.

4 FREE THROWS FOR THE TIGERS ALL NIGHT
Logan Elm 4 second half fouls
Waverly 12 second half fouls
At one time it was 9-2
It was 7 (Waverly) to 4 (L.E.) in the first half.
THAT WAS STORY OF THIS GAME
I don't know what they were saying on the radio but I'd say Waverly's players were finally getting tired of it (reason for the arguing to the officials).
Robertson was going after the officials as they ran off the floor but was restrained by an assistant coach.
Regardless, you can't score 13 points in the 2nd half and expect to win very many ball games.
On Robertsons part there was something really unproffesional said by the ref at the end of that game but thats no excuse to go at him.

Good game by both. LE is a well coached bunch, it seemed when kretz got faceguarded that kid did a good job and made kretz mad which seemed to take him out of the game i think that harrison martin always does a GREAT job for the tigers. he should be going somewhere big, good job LE an hope u go all the way & nice uniforms lol
Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
The officials took Waverly out of the game in the 2nd half, period. Should Malone have been T'd up for his "reaction", maybe. I do applaud the Ref's for refraining from that and getting him to the bench to calm down, but who do you think got him in that situation?
Kretzer was frustrated as well but what would you do if you were beat around like he was in the 2nd half, even shoved into the chairs and no calls being made?
There is no way Logan Elm plays the defense they did, especially in the 2nd half and only pick up 4 fouls. It was just too obvious. How many travels and carries did L.E. get away with and what about the ball going out of bounds, nearly hitting the scorers table with Jenkins right there and no call - UNREAL!
I don't doubt something was said to Travis by the one official as they left the floor. The guy should not be officiating Waverly games - he CANNOT do it objectively.

Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
Lets look at everything most from Waverly are whining about. First, the player from Waverly who literally shoved a player to the floor on the screen. Was the screen moving, couldnt tell, but I could tell the waverly player shoved the screener to the floor and then got in a face to face altercation and placed his hands on the LE player during the dead ball. This waverly player made a spectacle of himself 2 times and the refs still didnt t him up. As for the player being face guarded and shoved was it to the bench! Cry me a river, the LE player bumped him and he flopped to the bench trying to draw a foul. After that the waverly player was mad and out of his game. He had to be told to stop talking trash to the LE player at half court. So two times the refs had to stop play and control a waverly player out of control. Of course this stems from their coach who was whining the whole game to just the two refs, why not the third, he knew if he yelled at him he would be sitting on the bench with 1 technical or in the locker room with 2. The waverly coach stood near half court with 30 seconds left in the game and continually harrassed the ref at half court for the rest of that time. When the horn sounded, the refs jogged past waverlys bench and the coach didnt line up to shake hands, he headed towards the refs and kept yelling at them. Thats when the asst coach stepped in and the head coach kept yelling. When the ref in question went by, he finally had enough and looked over his shoulder and said something back. Thats when both waverly coaches started yelling and making a spectacle of themselves. Emberrasing on this coaches part.

Richard,
Now that is one hilarious view
You're correct about one thing, Travis knows he cannot say anything to Jenkins when he's officiating a Waverly game. That guy has proved over the past 3 years he will not do it fairly.

Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
This is the 2nd time Logan Elm beat Waverly this season, maybe they are the better team. The 1st time by 19 after a late start due to success in football and then by 12 last night. You can complain about the refs but in the 1st half I thought Logan Elm was taking very difficult shots while Waverly was taking high percentage shots. In the 2nd half Wavery took difficult shots and Logan Elm's shot selection was a lot better than the 1st half.. In my opinion that was the difference in the game.
Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
I was at the game last night watching a very young, talented and aggresive team from Waverly playing a vetern more talented team in Logan Elm. Both of these teams played very hard and should be proud of the way they played the game. I also seen the play in which the kid from Logan Elm was face guarding the kid from Waverly, in the play where the kid from Waverly "flops" onto his bench, the LE player actually never touched him. I have seen about 35 high school games this year and can count on one hand the games in which the officiating was excellent, the rest have been average to extremely poor, the officiating I seen last night was average and did in no way cause Waverly to lose. With that said I also noticed on some of these posts the statements made by some about Logan Elm's center being lazy and would even made the team if he was'nt 6'8" and had a mom who played for University of Tennesee....are you blind, this kid was dominate inside far from lazy a double double last night, even when drawing double teams all night, if I were Waverly's coach and I thought this was'nt very good why would I double team him all night leaving good shooters open all night. The better team one last night, no disrespect to Waverly kids they are very good and will only get better, as they are very young.

hilarious.......,maybe you should have had the same refs you had against chilli.....shoes on the other foot now.....hahaha
Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
2010, looks like more than 1 person shares my view and they arent an LE fan either. So, take the orange colored blinders off, waverly took advantage of being physical in the first half and LE did the 2nd. Keep on blaming the refs if you want, your coach did and it trickled down to the players feeling the same way and acting that way. Must be the norm for you guys.
Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
Ive read post on this site for many weeks talking about how Hauserman from Logan Elm is lazy, only on the team because his mother played for Pat Summit, etc. etc. Looks like alot of people from New Lex, Vinton and now Waverly finally saw the light. Hauserman was a beast last night with a double double and was ready when the announcer said basketball 30! How would you like to be 18 years old, 6 foot 8 and still be playing high school basketball? Sounds like a pretty good gig, huh? Quit blaming the refs and the kids and just let them play. Watch out Warren, Talk some smack about the big man this week and watch him rock the convo friday night.

Re: SE District DII Semi: Logan Elm vs. Waverly
First off Congrats to LE well played, well coached.
Basicly a tale of 2 halfs Waverly outplayed LE first half, second half all LE.
Yes Hitchbone we came out in the second half in a zone, I couldnt tell you why, we had it going on and then did exactly what we shouldnt have done try to zone them, they are probably the best passing team we have played all yr, just made to break down a zone, we lost our momentum and they gained confidence and it was pretty much over after that.
I wont comment about this crew of refs, I know them and lets just say I am not a fan of their work.
Congrats to all the seniors we will miss you and thank you for a lot of enjoyment.
LE good luck and after watching the 2nd game last night I would say unless you get cocky your gonna be regional bound.
