Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
Maybe you can begin Baseball season Sunday and with a little less crap talking and some good ole panther hard work you won't lose 3. What else are you going to have to do basketball will be over . Hey by the way you are such a legend do you think you could arrange the peake some gym time should be wide open since all your teams are finished.
Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
I will speak from having a father that coached as an asst under Davis for a year, it is not an inverted flex offense. I don't care who you coached to whatever record, you are full of sh*t and you are getting on everyones nerves and I am pretty sure ZT fans could give two sh*ts that you are even a fan.
First of all here is an inverted flex offense broken down
-When ball goes to the corner, the player on the block (who came off the flex cut) comes up and sets a UCLA screen for the guard up the lane line.
Screen away screen the screener.
-Guard screens away for the other guard. The player on the block (who came off the flex cut) sets a back screen for the guard who is setting the cross screen. This also opens up a baseline driving lane if your guy in the corner loves to drive.
Double Screen away
-Pretty simple, but gives some action.
Double screen away for opposite corner.
-The backside guard and ballside guard set a staggered double for the corner man who comes off it for a shot. The ballside guard goes to the backside guard and the backside guard becomes the corner.
Down Screen
-The player that comes across on the flex cut gets a down screen from the ballside guard who made the pass.
Drive Baseline and kick
-Simple, but you could have the player on the flex cut clear out to the backside block, the corner could drive and look to kick the ball.
Xs
-The ballside guard who made the pass goes and screens away the backside corner. The backside corner comes up to the guard spot. The player who came off the flex cut backscreens the backside guard - the player can also set a second screen for the player coming off the corner screen too.
Now with all of this being said, to run any kind of flex offense, YOU MUST HAVE A FLEX CUT! I am not the greatest coach in the world and do not claim to be, I have coached youth league, middle school, asst high school, helped run oth Mark Lafons and Norm Persins camps, and been around Marshall for 4 years helping to run their camps and in their practices a good majority of the year. So Mr. Buddy League Champion Coach I will remind you one more time, YOU MUST HAVE A FLEX CUT TO RUN A FLEX OFFENSE. You don't disguise a flex cut, it is what it is. You can't disguise a ball screen, it is what it is. You can pull out all your technical terms you think you know, and I can run over to coachesclipboard.net and find everything you describe, it really isn't as difficult as you are trying to make your mastery look.
This is the best part of your post that allows me to form my opinion that you must be a 15 year old kid sitting at home eating chips and smoking a fat one. It is so complicated that Davis can not perfect it, and he is a coach that is very highly respected by the majority of coaches in the area/state, but your 8-9 year old AAU team can run it perfect. I have played AAU and been around several good All-Statr/AAU coaches myself and I can tell you that you are more full of sh*t then anyone I have ever heard talk basketball. You can teach 8 year olds how to run a complicated offense, that really is more of a set then an actual offense; I call BS! I have watched 11 year old AAU teams fail to grasp an open post offense yet an 8 year old team can grasp an offense/set----riiiight. BTW, most 8 year old games you will see zone 90% of the time. You could run that offense against a zone if you want movement, but really is no need when you can go 4 out 1 in and get similar movement or simply go with an overload.
If I were a ZT fan and you were posting on our behalf I would do whatever I could to get you to shut up, because you are making the ZT community look really stupid.

As I explained this is a very complicated offense and takes years to perfect. My 8-9 year old AAU group runs it to a tee.

Good luck to our brethren in Ross County! This LE fan will be rooting for our neighbors from the Scioto Valley Conference to take home a District Championship!

As a Zane Trace alumni of 2005, I agree with this message.

And by the way, it has always been "Basketball:30" with Sweet Lou at the announcers table.
There are also much better bars/food in Athens than the chain B-dubs. Nothing against B-dubs, but there is so much more that you can choose from.
Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
If you're such a good coach, Phil, why are you still coaching little kids? It sounds like you should be winning national championships, not buddy league tournaments.
Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
Jughead, any recommendations? Was gonna stop at Wild Horse in Pomeroy on the way up route 7 but I read some reviews and they dont have much to choose from for the prices! I would like something besides a chain also...we have a bdubs in Ironton!

Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
Actually, i HAVE coached at the high school level. I coached a Junior Varsity team on an indian reservation in South Dakota. We went 12-1 and won the reservation championship, so dont tell me i cant coach at the highest level. I just perfer the young kids because they no longer get taught fundamentals at that age anymore. They deserve great coaches too and i have dedicated my life to that!
Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
Now I know you are pulling everyone's leg. At least I hope you are. First of all, a GREAT coach would never be on this website downgrading another coaches abilities. If thats the kind of ethics and morals you have then I wouldnt want my 9 year old dog playing for you let alone my 9 year old kid. So IF you are a coach to a group of young men I hope their parents are reading this and realize what kind of,...ahem...."gentleman" you are. I think I hear the video games calling your name Phil. I dont think you could carry the coaching staff at Peake's golf bag, let alone hold a candle to them in the manners or coaching abilities department. Dont worry ZT fans. We wont judge you on the way one iggy acts. Ahahahahaha.

Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
They must not teach spelling on the reservation cause perfer is spelled prefer. Maybe this is why your teams lose because you do not pay attention to detail. Your full of accomplishments or so called accompishments which don't mean jack. Maybe you should do your posting on the best youth team ever thread funny enough your name is mentioned no where on there or better yet go to the Biddy league postings. Just be sure that you have our rent money Saturday night cause were coming for it.

I'm surprised you caught that I put it in there for you. I am sorry it took me so long to reply I was on the phone long distance to Chief Gotridofloser who does not speak highly of you. He wanted you to know that all is well on the reservation and that their new coach has not had one problem staying off the firewater.

Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
I guess omitting a period or two is the eqivalent of starting sentences with lower case letters.

Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
actually, i really dont put much thought into grammer when posting. 99% of the people on here probably dont care either as long as its readable. Then, you have that 1% who really cant think of anything intelligent to say so they point out meaningless spelling errors. The funny thing about that is, they look like TOTAL IDIOTS because they, themselves cant spell or even properly punctuate a sentence. Lets end this spelling bee. You are in a battle of wits and you are obviously unarmed. have mercy on yourself and let it go buddy.
Lets talk about how Trace is gonna run wild on Saturday!
PS: How much do i owe for the rent? Will you take a check?

Re: Chesapeake vs. Zane Trace.. thoughts
Pphil...You should be making a video. You should title it "How to make biddy league champions with the inverted flex offense."
I would offer an incentive with the purchase though. Something like an official playbook that you have used throughout your coaching days.

Im not interested in making money. I am already independently wealthy. I just want to help young kids become champions in all aspects of life. Also, i want to cheer on Zane Trace as they show Chesapeake what true class really is.

phil comes on here to share his basketball knowledge only to have others ridicule him for posting. imo people should be more appreciative to someone who shares such informative posts.
that's just me though. hopefully phil won't be ran off by those who dont appreciate.
i'd like to hear more about that inverted double stagger with the gap cut. sounds like it could be another great option for a team running this offense.
is that a cut we might see anyone in ncaa play using or is it something you created recently?
