Mountain State Academy from Beckley will apparently not be a participant in the Ironton Classic this year due to closure of the school for financial difficulties.

Re: Ironton 2010 - 2011
Another scheduling tidbit on Ironton's upcoming roundball season - I found this posting in the open dates on the WVSSAC's website:
"Ironton High School, Ohio, (5 minutes from Ashland, KY) Ironton Shootout. Looking for teams to fill a competitive schedule of games on January 29th, 2011. Shootout style one day event. Compensation will be offered. Contact: Mark LaFon, 740-550-8014 or 740-532-5235."
This would be an event separate and apart from the Ironton Classic. It appears that Lafon is ever the hustler when it comes to staging basketball events at the Conley Center. Good luck, Coach!

As far as skilled post men go I agree that McKinley is about as solid as they come here in SEO, I would even rather have him than London, but I would not sleep on Kennedy for a second. He is physically bigger than McKinley and, like Dion, has a solid midrange game.
Starting lineup: Advantage Portsmouth

Who would make top ten best players from river teams Portsmouth to Fairland?

As far as I know, Ironton has always been located east of Portsmouth and west of Fairland and
sets right on the river. So, they were not left out of the thread wanting to know who the best or
top ten players are along river from Portsmouth to Fairland.

Not much of a variety there....just list Portsmouth and Ironton's starting rotations.buckey fan wrote:tribemaniac10 wrote:

Don't forget Eric Kennedy (6'4/Jr.) is now at Chesapeake after transferring in from Spring Valley HS (WV).
Here is a look at Kennedy with his WV Wildcats- Elmore 16U AAU team.

Rumor has it that Ironton may be negotiating a game with Charleston (WV) Catholic. Although a Class A school, the Irish have played in the last 6 West Virginia State Championship games, winning in 2006 and 2007, and finishing as runnerup in 2005, 2008, 2009, and 2010. They are a well coached bunch and play in one of the nicest high school basketball facilities in the region.
Sure would like to see the final 2010-2011 schedule if and when it is available.

Re: Ironton 2010 - 2011
I' can't wait to see the schedule either, sounds like we're trying to pick up some pretty good teams this year. With a few players (Zac Carter, Malcom Morton, Travis Elliott, and Trey Fletcher just to name a few) choosing not to play Football this year to concentrate on Basketball they should be Basketball ready right out of the Gate.pembrook burrows III wrote:Rumor has it that Ironton may be negotiating a game with Charleston (WV) Catholic. Tue 02/15/11 Huntington (WV) Prep Varsity Home 7:30 pm
The December 11 game against Blanchester may be part of the Convo Shootout in Athens. The December 21 and 22 dates are obviously the Ironton Classic, where matchups are apparently still being finalized. Possible opponents include Campbell Memorial, Africentric, Brook Point (VA), and Cincinnati Princeton. The January 8-9 games are part of the National Hoops Classic in Wellston. The January 15 game against Piketon may be part of the Beast of the Southeast shootout in Chesapeake. The January 20 and 22 dates are rumored to be an appearance in the St. Joseph's (WV) Classic at the Huntington Memorial Field House. If so, some possible opponents there would include Cabell Midland (WV), Spring Valley (WV), both AAA schools, and possibly a rematch against Chesapeake. The home game against Waverly on January 29 may be part of a slate of games to be played at the Conley Center in Ironton as part of a shootout format. Finally, the regular season will wrap up against Huntington Prep, a school which is quickly gaining a national reputation for attracting major D-I talents (2 Louisville signees last year). Total of 9 home games, 5 away games, and 6 neutral floor games. Interesting mix to say the least.

Re: Ironton 2010 - 2011
^^^^^Looks like the Tigers have a pretty strong schedule, should be an exciting year of Hoops in Tiger Town.
Re: Ironton 2010 - 2011
Now thats a schedule.. Wow.. Will definatly be catching a few of these games..
Re: Ironton 2010 - 2011
Ironton wont be playing Piketon in the Beasts of Southeast. Piketon backed out due to too many nonconference games. Also there wont be a rematch with Peake in the Huntington St Joe Invitational. They wont be in the same bracket. Fairland will be the OVC team in Ironton's bracket in that tourney. Just lettin ya know.

Re: Ironton 2010 - 2011
Thanks for that update, ovc fan. Sorry to hear about Piketon, but let us know who the Tigers will be playing in the Beasts of the Southeast. It is interesting that that Piketon is citing "too many nonconference games" as the reason. Isn't it all about priorities? It sounds more like Coach Lisath may be ticked that Ironton didn't return a home game to Piketon a couple of years ago. He has a right to be, and it seems he has Ironton at the bottom of his priorities barrel right now. If so, I have no problem with Coach Lisath given the circumstances. Good luck to Piketon - maybe the Tigers and the Redstreaks will run into one another somewhere else this season.
And thanks for the update on the St. Joe Invitational. Does that mean that Ironton will be playing in the big school or small school bracket?

Looks like Sheldon Clark may need a game. They were 15-13 last year with top 2 scorers back who combined for over 40ppg. The open date posting says they need either a home game or a one day shootout with a travel stipend.

Re: Ironton 2010 - 2011
Not coach Lisaths fault on the scheduling mishap. Piketon tried to get out of a contract with another non league to join the beast of the southeast but could not get out of it. A little premature signing on the host of the event part before a confirmation! lol
