Re: Bannon Park Classic
[quote="jgordon0315"]Back by popular demand.....The Bannon Park Basketball Classic will return to Portsmouth this Summer...which will include the old school "Fashion's by Lisath" Top Model Contest.... featuring designs by the Lisath Kids!!!!! Details forthcoming....It has been 15 years...But I'm sure it will be fun!...
I thought the "Fashions by Lisath" meant Stanley will be fully pimped out!!! lol
Seriously though, are the high school teams 5 kids from the same team or are we being careful not to break any OHSAA rules?

High School teams.....are from the same school to my understanding. I know Piketon is playing Portsmouth and Unioto is playing a high school team from Kentucky, with the winners and losers playing each other....I think that's what I heard.

If the coaches do not coach the game then this will not count as one of their ten days.

Bannon Park Classic final registration Thursday 7pm-9pm and Friday 1PM-5PM at Bannon Park....Don't wait until the last minute or you might miss the cut!
Re: Bannon Park Classic
Just got back from the classic. Portsmouth's HS team just beat a team of former alums; Gerald Froe, Larry Berry, Ash Greene, etc. That was my first time watching the young Trojans play and they looked really good. With that win the team advanced to the finals of the classic.

Re: Bannon Park Classic
How did Piketon do? I heard the talent there is awesome....Camden Miller, Dennis Gagi, a couple of 6'11 post players, a player from the NBDL, the London kid from Chillicothe....sounds like it will be worth the trip today. I seen the article in the paper.
Re: Bannon Park Classic
Jimmy: I watched Piketon play earlier in the day and I know they lost their first game but it was close then heard they lost their second game too very close. Legg can definitely play. Looked as though they got tired and weren't getting back in transition, but then again it was really hot out and it is still summer. I was impressed though. They have some good shooters and Legg is great at driving and kicking the ball out to those shooters. And you were right about some BIG post players! Still a great event and everybody was having a great time

Re: Bannon Park Classic
I watched every single game...and as mentioned above, lots of familiar names showed out. Former PHS standout Darnell Lisath played, along with the likes of Wheelersburgs Camden Miller, Ironton's Dennis Gagai, Shawnee State alum Randall Pennington, former PHS high flyer Chris "Pudge" White, Malik London teamed up with his dad and his former teammate(now at Shawnee State) Michael Turner to represent Chillicothe, Ironton Tiger alum Ty Davis participated on the winning squad BPC(Bannon Park Classic). Heck even Jeff Lisath dusted off the Jordans and became the oldest player to ever lace em up in the Classic at 50. There were 2 teams from Circleville. Piketon brought 2 teams. I really like that Legg kid. Portsmouth had several teams representing. Former PHS track stud Jeremy Hamrick graced us with his presence. PHS's Raymond Robinson joined in on the fun as well. Cincinatti even sent a team with Kevin Jones, i believe, is the player headed to the NBDL...not sure though. The standout of the tournament had to have been Andrew Bendolph of the Portsmouth Trojans...he carried his team to be the first ever high school team to advance to the winners brackett of the Bannon Park Classic...In addition to being the first high school team to advance to the finals of the Classic. Chris White won the tournament MVP as his team won the whole thing as he led them. Hopefully Jeff will post the website where you can look at pics and vids of the weekends festivities. Great Fun. And they'll be doing it even bigger next year. Already got 16 teams jockeying for BPC 2011.

Re: Bannon Park Classic
The Trojans had an outstanding classic, playing the best competition they have faced all summer........they beat all the top teams, but unfortunately lost in the double elimination tournament in the finals.......there were some excellent crowds out there cheering for the Trojans.......the BPC is back and hopefully back to stay!!
Congratulations to Jeff Lisath and many others for an outstanding basketball event!!

Re: Bannon Park Classic
TrojanDave...all I can say is, "There's a real buzz about this team." I overheard lots of fans (fairweather of course, j/k) saying they're gonna get season tickets, lol. They may not realize the time these kids put in during the off season but they see some of the fruits of their work and it has them in anticipation. And everybody was pulling for the young Trojans. And many Trojan Alum, as well as other schools alum, (after it was all said and done) basically all conceaded that these Trojans are gonna be special. They earned their respect on this past weekend (Street cred, if you will, lol). But one of the best quotes, I just happened to overhear was from Ironton alum, Ty Davis. "Man, we gotta get back on defense cause that Bendolph kid, off a make, is beating us down the court.............With the ball!" lol. And that's just an example of the chatter around the park over the weekend. If you listened to different ones, you heard different takes on why "this one" is the sweetest or "that one" is the nicest ...or "he's" the coldest...or "so and so" is gonna have a big year. This year, it's gonna be "pick your poison!" kinda year Should be fun.

Re: Bannon Park Classic
I don't write on here often but I have to give my take on the play of the trojans at the classics.
If anyone on here hasn't been able to see these kids play you need to make sure you make it happen this year. I'm not gonna go off the edge, like some people on here, and say they are gonna win state but they are definately talented. I haven't seen them play in two years probably and I was in awe of thier performance. And I will co-sign on Jgordons comments about how everyone was was talking about the Trojans. I was and am still hearing some of the players from the Circleville teams talk about how good the Trojans are and how much potential they have compared to some of the other High School teams they have seen, and believe me that means alot comming from some of these guys cause they rarely ever complement people...lol.
All in All, I say that the buzz that may be going around Portsmouth is deserving and hopefully EVERYONE including me can get out and support the Trojans this season.

jgordon0315 and akaknotts: I love your POSITIVE comments about our Trojans.......and they are well deserved for these kids.........we have seen them put in a lot of hours on the blacktop and it is paying off.........not only are these kids talented, but they have a great chemistry about them which is very important to having a good basketball team. Add to that Coach Eugene Collins' excellent rapport with these kids and you have all the ingredients to a special season in 2010-2011.
I just hope to see PHS gym filled to the brim this season, because these kids could put together a season that many of us proud PHS alumni could remember for a long time to come. I would also like to see good crowds at some of the road games, at least the shorter trips, i.e. Ironton, Chillicothe, Jackson, South Webster, etc.

save me a seat trojandave, biggdowgg, ozzie, and tobias right up in the man row. Which might be about to become an entire man section!
trojandave... you know that if I can get to away games I certainly(sp)will
Re: Bannon Park Classic
I hope to make a couple of games myself as well. The daughter will be playing varsity ball this year so it may be a logistic nightmare but I have to see this team at least once
