Ohio University Team Camp

Post by OHIOBobcats »

Ohio University will be holding its Boys HS Team Camp from June 28-30 and its JR. High Team Camp from July 16-18.

You will play more games than anywhere else! You will play a MINIMUM of 20 halves of basketball[/color], plus a tournament at the end of camp.

We would love to host your team in the dorms, everything is within walking distance- already have around 15 Varsity Teams signed up (also have a JV/ Freshman division).

Please call Aaron Fuss at your earliest convenience for more details.

Just as an update to all of the coaches out there still looking for a high quality camp:

We currently have 26 Varsity and 15 JV teams signed up for camp, with those teams ranging from Div 1 to Div IV.
Will be extremely competitive! All teams guaranteed to play every other hour for 3 days!!

Also have a JR High Team Camp July 16-18. Not many like this around, great weekend camp for JR High teams trying to break up the summer.

Call for more information!

I have no doubt this camp is probably a good one, but I wanted to hear from area coaches what the reason would be to go to this camp over another one. I mean you can't say that your kids will be getting a look from the coaches at OU. They don't even want to talk to our kids in this area, unless it's about a walk-on position. So please fill me in on why you would waste your time going to this camp over another one, say Akron or Kent? They at least look at our kids and give them a shot at playing DI ball. I am not saying there are many kids in our area that can play DI, but OU NEVER even gives them a try.

Thanks!

Bobby, where does you information come from that OU does not look at players in this area? There is a new coaching staff there and they do look at players from our area and all over Ohio. Do you really think if we have a player in this area that they think could be an asset to the team and help them win, they wouldn't recruit them because of being from around here? Also, coaches pick camps for several reasons. One: location and facilities (OU fits both of those categories and with the economic times, it makes sense to travel fairly close) Two: Amount of games and competition. (with that many teams, there is going to be lots of games and that's what it comes down to) Three: hospitality. (coaches and players like to feel like they are appreciated and welcome and I'm sure the staff there makes it a point to meet and greet as many as possible.

If you are going to come and watch the games, make sure your coach gets you a parking pass, or you will be paying a parking ticket on top of what you paid for your kid to go to camp.

I think this is a great camp.......if a kid is good enough to play for OU, I'm sure that they will check him out.......and it is true that there aren't that many kids from the SE District who can make a significant impact on Bobcat basketball........OU's recruiting base has a wide geographical area........just because the school is located in SE Ohio doesn't mean that they have to recruit SE District athletes.......the bottom line is you have to be good enough. Sure, a local kid might draw some additional fans to the Convo, but winning trumps everything, and after winning the MAC tourney and going to the NCAA's and beating Georgetown, Bobcat fans want some more postseason results like those.

Agreed, but I do think that a Tory Horne or Andrew Seaman would have a decent shot at walking on for the Bobcats.

TribeManiac10: Can't speak about Seaman, because I didn't see Peebles play this year.......but I trust your judgement on him........as far as Horne, I think he definitely could play on the MAC level.........

One factor that definitely plays a role in the recruiting process is the player's grades and scores on SAT/ACT........I would think that there has to be a reasonable minimum that D1 schools like OU can accept........of course this is a matter of offering a scholarship, but being a walk-on is a different matter entirely.

Some kids, though, would rather go JUCO and play right away rather than go to a D1 school hoping that the coach will allow them to walk on.

We have a few spots available for our VARSITY and JV Team camp on June 28-30. This will be the best team camp we have ever had, with schools at all levels and from all over the state. The level of attendance from Southeast Ohio Schools is great- can't wait to see everyone here in a few months!

Our JUNIOR HIGH team camp is July 16-18. Has been a great event in past years. Many of the teams are coached by parents, so if your child's JR. High team hasn't organized anything this summer, pull some kids together (mixed 7th and 8th grade teams accepted) and bring them to campus!

I have taken my teams to OU team camp and played at OU camps back when I was in high school. These are absolutely great camps. My teams have always come away from these camps feeling good about what we got. Great facilities, hospitality, food, .....on and on and on. The campus is beautiful. My kids have always loved OU team camp. Another bonus for teams that go to districts or regionals at OU during season, this gives your kids a little taste of "basketball thirty" at OU. Give them something to shoot for.

As far as grades go Seaman would have no problem. He was in the 25-26 range on the ACT, top 5 in the class, class president, national honor society member, etc. He is no Armon Bassett but I think he could make the squad.
