SOC I 2010-11
Re: SOC I 2010-11
TJ is a very good athlete..He can definitely contribute to the basketball team this year if he keeps his head on straight...I think he has learned from past experiences what he has to do...Hope he doesn't become his own worst enemy...Good luck TJ,think before you speak...

Re: SOC I 2010-11
i think that symmes valley and Eastern will have a good battle to win the soc. Symmes Valley lost Tibbs but they have another Big Man he is a Senior this year (Ryan Stanley) plus to help him out you still got Josh Craft, and Luke Taylor that are also Seniors. i think that it will be a good year for the Vikings. Plus their first game is against Oak Hill. Going to be a good game.
Re: SOC I 2010-11
Symmes Valley had the potential to be as good or even better than they were last year.
We have had several boys drop out already...good players...players that could really help.
You had one boy let go at the end of try outs that should have been a starter.(Smith)
He was a senior transfer and was told he would get no playing time over the boys that had been at SV
for the last four years. You have another player drop out just yesterday that should have been a starter...
(boggs). Not to mention two boys that started every game last year for the JV and are juniors this year didnt
even go out for the team.(arthur and Fulford)
So lets see you have Boggs
Smith
Arthur
Fulford
Foster
All would be great to have on the team....
There are other boys I havent mentioned that didnt even go out....why bother
Seems a coaching change is in the near future for the Vikings....
Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.....

Re: SOC I 2010-11
Even with those boys who have decided not to play the Vikings would not have been a threat in the SOC 1. Sure they had some talent. We still have some talent but not what it takes to win the SOC1. One or two boys cannot carry the team like Tibbs did a couple of years ago. Different coaching style. Hope they do great this year, I also hope they watch the floor and not the stands. Hard to drain three's when one eye is on the hoop and the other on the crowd. Looking forward to seeing the group of freshman coming in this year. Now on to the lady vikings site.

Re: SOC I 2010-11
IMHO Symmes Valley has underachieved for years at basketball. They have more than enough talent to compete and possibly win the SOC1 this season. I believe Clay, SV, Green, Eastern, and possibly even Notre Dame (may be a yr away) will all have a shot.
Re: SOC I 2010-11
I doubt Green contends for the league title. I was told at least 4 varsity kids didn't go out.
Re: SOC I 2010-11
I was told two players were kicked off the team for back talking the coach.
one was a starter last year they have four kids that would have started and two off the bench thats not playing, they return one starter and one off the bench. it's going to be a long season. GOOD LUCK TO THE KIDS THAT ARE PLAYING.

Re: SOC I 2010-11
Wow! Did all of those guys at Symmes Valley who didn't try out or didn't stick it out contribute it to the coaching staff? Perhaps there were other factors involved. It seems like it would take quite a bit to keep someone from playing if they really wanted to play in the first place.
As for the transfer student who "should have been a starter" I believe that might have been an easier task if he had played organized basketball at some point since middle school.
Yes, I see some changes. Change always takes some getting used to. But change can also be good. I do like what I'm hearing about this staff working with the feeder program to get consistent fundamental skills taught early. That has been a problem for years at SV.
Hopefully the team will work hard, support each other, and have fun this year. They appear to be a very talented bunch, and I'm looking forward to a great season! Good Luck Vikings!!

Very sad Flash. Green had the talent (bigs and guards) to do something this year. I watched them give Minford all they wanted last season.flash wrote:I was told two players were kicked off the team for back talking the coach.

Who is left on their roster?

Clay looked good in the Foundation game with Huntington Ross winning 54 - 49. The four starting seniors scored 13, 12, 11 and 8 points, which is exactly what this team need to do to win. It's hard to shut down four players.

Hughes is the only player left from last years team that contributed. Pierce is listed on the roster but I was told he's not playing (not in team photo). It's a shame what one individual can do to a program.Eaglesnest wrote:Very sad Flash. Green had the talent (bigs and guards) to do something this year. Very sad. Pierce is one of the better guards in the area.frank-n-beans wrote:Hughes is the only player left from last years team that contributed. And two more bite the dust for SV.
Myers and Herrell decided they too will not play for the Vikings....
Two great athletes....what a shame.....
Getting down to where some boys are gonna have to be pulled from your JV team.
JV is tough.....
They play good team ball together....now they too will be split up

Re: SOC I 2010-11
What seems to be the issues with all the boys not playing this year. Is it that the hard nose coaching styles of the past doesn't set well with the kids, or is it the kids are getting lazier and don't want to put out the effort.
Re: SOC I 2010-11
Without going into it in depth which would take awhile to explain... I think its a mixture of the coaches, kids and parents

The tartans are not looking bad this year. They looked good in there scrimmage against rock hill beating them 65-47. They looked very well and a good team that plays as a team. That Crager kid look pretty impressive this year with a great year in football. I Look for him to lead these boys to an SOC championship isnt he a senior this year. Good luck to the boys in Blue.

Re: SOC I 2010-11
I think Charlie's Kitchen may be right. Just one of those things where a group of boys decide they dont want to play a certain sport. Makes the Vikings alittle short handed this year and maybe next but it will give the younger boys the chance to play some varsity ball. One should already be playing there now full time. Hope there in shape cause bench time may be short for the varsity boys.
Good luck vikings
Good luck vikings
Re: SOC I 2010-11
According to Greenbobcats.net, Pierce IS playing this year. But it will not be enough. No inside game at all. They will be lucky to win 5 games this year. Will have to wait until next year when certain individuals are gone before anything can be repaired in the Furnace. I hammered Kitchen 2 years ago but since found out I was completely wrong.
Re: SOC I 2010-11
I'm glad that Pat is playing I was he was kicked off the team. I agree with Sawdust no size inside game I hope I'm wrong but it looks like along season. best of luck to the Cats.
