The building blocks to any successful program are youth sports. Don't think that the high school coaches and youth coaches are on the same page. Too many youth coaches giving the ball to the best player and let them carry the team, you may get by with that in pee wee but not high school. It takes more than just one guy to score in high school, you could really see that in the basketball game last night, nobody stepping up to lead the team, both jv and varsity. Belpre has talent just needs to build a stronger fundamental foundation.

Re: Belpre @ Fort Frye Dec 3rd
The talent is just not there in football, we built our team around one player this year, and thats not going to get it done. Girls basketball, the talent is just not there either, they have 2 or 3 girls, and these girls have not been coached well the last couple years. The boys team is different, the talent is there, but the biggest problems i saw with Belpre was this: you're playing a zone against Fort Frye, and they got wide open three, after wide open three, why play a zone against a team that you match up decent with? I think belpre needs to look at the tape, and start playing defense like Fort Frye, excellent defensive team, and very very disciplined, which concludes they are very well coached. The other biggest problem was that Belpre didn't run any plays, it was all one-on-one, either Waderker driving in, or Rashawn pulling up, thats not an offense. You need to have set plays for Rashawn or Drew to get open shots. Another problem was rebounding, since Belpre was in a 2-3 zone, they had to run out to try to get a hand in the face of the shooters, leading to offensive rebounds by Fort Frye, the Fort probably had 14-20 second chance points. The effort was there, the kids didn't wanna lose, and i think played hard until the final buzzer, but defense is all effort, and the whole team needs to be playin defense like Erik Waderker. Oh, and there was a lot of home cookin last night, but not nearly enough to make a difference in the game. Fort Frye outplayed Belpre, and i wish Fort Frye a good/healthy season.EasternDspy wrote:This is not trying to bring down Belpre but what is wrong with the sports teams as of late?Football team 1-19 last 2 years,Girls BBall loses 70-15 weds and now this???

Eaglefan1, I believe we were watching the wrong game if you are saying that there was alot of "homecooking." There were missed calls both ways. Belpre played a great 1-3-1 zone the first quarter, and it would have continued to work had the guards on the wings dropped backside, like they are supposed to. The effort was definitely there in the first quarter, beyond that, on defense it looked as if they seen the man getting ready to shoot from perimeter and thought "he's too far away." As far as open shots are concerned, Belpre got many, and hit a seldom few. It was a tough shooting night all around, add that with a bad defensive night, well you have the makings of the game we just witnessed.

eagletown, there were more questionable calls that went Fort Frye's way. 2 of Cody Sellers' fouls he didn't even touch the kid, and a foul was called. But Belpre got outplayed in this game, Fort Frye wanted it more, and i think Belpre would have been better off sticking to the 1-3-1, because fort killed belpre when belpre was in the 2-3 and they killed em while they were in man, and Fort Frye played great defense, most of Belpres open looks came in the fourth quarter when Fort Frye had some subs in, other than that, Belpre was forcing a lot of shots that weren't there.
Re: Belpre @ Fort Frye Dec 3rd
I can agree to the first statement. Only one of the fouls on Cody I felt was undeserved. Well I think it may have been a pick your poison on defense. The 1-3-1 resulted in our wing guards giving easy layups, and the 2-3 resulted in three pointers. I'd rather give up a three pointer instead of a layup. But Belpre had many shots in that first half that just didn't fall, and yes some were forced, but we were even missing layups. Hopefully we get out there on the next one and get the win.eaglefan1 wrote:eagletown, there were more questionable calls that went Fort Frye's way. 2 of Cody Sellers' fouls he didn't even touch the kid, and a foul was called. Fort Frye plays straight man to man, and is VERY good at it. They play terrific help side defense.

Coaches made a few mistakes and missed a few adjustments. Players had turnovers and missed shots. But you think the referees should be perfect? It isn't home cooking. It's part of being human. There are about two teams on Fort Frye's regular schedule who go to Beverly and are not intimidated. The rest of them say the refs there are always bad there.
