Blevins from Manchester
Blevins from Manchester
Does anyone know how he is doing this year? I saw him at Ironton last year and at a few of their tournament games; he looked like a fine player. Any schools looking at him?

Its possible. With his size, 6'7" 210(this is stretching it a bit), he will have to play at either the SF or PF position.streetballer wrote:he is good enough to play d-1..by the end of year im sure he will have offers from some d-1 schools

About the size that Cam Thoroughman was when he was in HS and he was able to bulk up and play in the Big East, so it wouldn't be a shock if he was able to play for a small D1, without having to bulk up.

What were his Cam's stats in high school? It just seems like they would have to be out of this world to have a school like West Virginia look at him. Clay is not really a hot bed for basketball talent usually. Did he play AAU?danicalifornia wrote:About the size that Cam Thoroughman was when he was in HS and he was able to bulk up and play in the Big East, so it wouldn't be a shock if he was able to play for a small D1, without having to bulk up.

He had to have played AAU at a high level and I'm guessing would've done it out of someplace like Huntington to get looked at by them. He was a pretty early commit too.
I watched him play against Webster and was very impressed when he was a junior, ran the point and knocked down some 3's, now, he bangs inside and rarely shoots outside of 3 feet. He's had a solid career though, getting to play in the Big East and getting a free education ain't too bad.

KingJames..No offense to Blevins because he is a heck of a player. However, he is not on the level of Cam Thoroughman. I dont know if you got a chance to see him play in high school or not but he was a 6'7" point guard. Cam has transformed into a different type of player at WVU simply because that is what Huggins needs. I am sure that if Beilen was still there that Cam would have played on the perimeter more.
And once again no offense to Blevins because he is a good player, but d1 schools normally have their classes filled out by now. If a d1 school was going to look at him they probably already would have.
He definitely has the potential to play at d2. He could be a stud at the NAIA level.

I would think more than just Southern State would be looking at him, but if that's it, he should go there and use that as motivation to try and pick up a 2 year scholarship.
NAIA pays too, so that would be another great option. Unlike most sports, in basketball, there are far less scholarships, so playing any college ball on scholarship is outstanding.

Thats also a possibility. I could see him making the roster at a school like Western Carolina, EKU, Elon, etc. at the PF position.Super Fresh wrote:Small D1 school...DJ Cunningham style

Blevins is a great player but there's no comparison to cam he was 2 times the athlet of blevins faster , stronger, quicker, better shooter better jumper blevins is a nice player and will get some NAIA looks I'm sure but he has to be slot faster to play D-1
Re: Blevins from Manchester
cam went to wv to play for the previous coach because he let everyone shoot 3's. now that huggins is there all he does is set screens and get some rebounds. i doubt that he is allowed to shoot those 3's like he did in high school.
blevins could probably play at shawnee state.

blevins is to good to play at shawnee..shawnee does have good players..he would fit in good at ou
Re: Blevins from Manchester
I don't see him playing at OU. Like was stated on here before if a D1 school hasn't made him any offers yet, he would have to more then likely be a walk on. I think he could play at a smaller college and if he gets better then try to transfer up.

NAIA Div 1 can offer more scholarships and money than NCAA Div 2. NAIA 2 offers less than NCAA D2. NCAA D3 offers no $. Order in amount of money/scholarships able to offer: NCAA D1, NAIA 1, NCAA D2, NAIA 2, NCAA 3. NAIA don't have to give all they can as its up to the school. NCAA has to give all they are allowed.

Blevins is a great player. I could be wrong but I dont think he played a lot of AAU ball (where the D1 scouts really scout) in the Summer. This will come back to haunt him because you will not get much respect playing in the SHL. If they make another deep run into the tournament and he has some dominating games there might be some small D1 with a scholarship left but more than likely not.
Streetballer, NAIA basketball has very talented players who all probably thought they were D1 when they were in high school. Remember Nathan Copas and Paul Cluxton (didnt go D1) and were two of the all-time greats of the league.
One other problem a D1 coach might have is Blevins would have to play small forward. He is not big or strong enough to play post in D1 and he is not an experienced enough ballhandler to play a guard position in D1.
Another question a D1 coach would ask is "Who is he going to guard"? I think he would really struggle guarding a D1 Post player and would also struggle guarding a 6'3 - 6'5 guard who can put it on the floor off the dribble and run off perimeter screens.
