I mean this as a compliment. Just watching Howie coach on the sidelines is worth the price of admission. He is a great coach and gets everything he can get out of his players. As for the game last night, South Gallia matches up well with Eastern. However, with the recent departures from the team depth is a little bit of a concern especially if we get in foul trouble. This year it seems that SG does have some trouble adjusting to a big man in the middle. Case in point would be Trimble and Fed Hock. I agree with the comment about SG at tournament time. The team just seems to get a little closer to reaching its potential each game. The Nolan boy has a ton of potential. I know he let's his emotions get the best of him from time to time but man does he play hard. I also think Coach Saunders does a nice job of recognizing when he needs to pull him out for a second to let him settle down. Looking forward to the Miller game this Tuesday and then Waterford next Friday!

On another note, are those freshman on SG's JV team the same 8th graders from last year that struggled to win anything in Junior High? WOW, what a difference a year makes. Thumbs up to the JV coaches!! Jimmy you and coach Howell are doing a good job with those boys!

Future, What have you been smoking...lol

From the score book last year :

First Game

Eastern 40
S.G. 36

Second Game

Eastern 34
S.G 24

Tourn.

Eastern 44
S.G. 39

So the as a combined total of the three games, they didn't beat the 8th grade by 42.

Where are you getting your information????

was getting the info from a few of the players on the team. The sophmore group lost terribly in 8th grade and The freshmen lost 3 times to eastern last season. Anyways, congrats to the freshmen for besting eastern for the first time. Is that better???

Sophmores Christian Wilks (undergoing treatment for cancer, while playing) Dylan Stumbo( Died of brain tumor, shortly after season) Anthony Ferguson(had never played basketball until the 8th grade) , C.J. Johnston (never plaed until 7th grade), Tyler Reynolds, Jessie Chapman( Had never played basketball until the 8th grade) . This was the 8th grade players of which only C.J is playing.

I moved a lot of the 7th graders up to fill in the gaps... It seems to have helped them in the long run.

Good Luck JV !!!!! I was glad to see the freshman sitting on the bench for the Varsity. They are a great group of kids, Good Kids and Good players... I am proud of them.

That should make it even more impressive how these freshmen has stepped up. Eastern has only 3 freshmen even playing. So these freshmen with a couple sophmores have improved a ton. I am glad to see them start gelling together.

Not sure what SG team you are watching this year but apparantly not the same games everyone else has. Matney's are both very good players however, a team consist of 5 of the floor and the bench. The Haner boy as well as the Nolan boy has carried the Rebels very well this year and even this game against Eastern Haner had 12 and Nolan tied Matney with 10 to be the leading scorers of the game. Ellis is holding his own as well with countless rebounds and points on the board. So come on down to Mercerville King James and watch a 2010-2011 South Gallia Runnin' Rebels basketball game and then come back and comment on the TEAM!
