Re: 1-14 VC @ Wellston
Wellston was 5-of-20 actually.
Vinton County was 10-of-12.
And boy do I have a quote to share!
Wait till you see this!

5-20
10-12
You sure wouldn't guess the 5-20 won. It's a solid win against a big rival.

You won't get an argument out of me gorockets2. Wellston won the game because they outhustled and kept their poise more then VC did. I thought the officiating was horrible(both ways) and that the floor had more dust on it then an abandoned home, but both teams had to deal with the same environment. Wellston has improved. I also thought it was nice to see the mid season addition come off the bench rather then start.....that is a fair gesture to the other kids who have played all season long. Derrow did a good job of having Osborne shadow guard Levi Lawhead which created a real glitch in VC's offense.
VC looked like a team that hadn't played in two weeks, flat, inattentive, and out of sorts. Wellston looked like a team that was more "game ready."
Congrats on your win Wellston.

Sounds like Wellston got a good win. Maybe in another 8 years they be able to beat Vinton County again.

Re: 1-14 VC @ Wellston
Below is the stats for the game.
And below is Wellston coach Jim Derrow's direct quote, on tape, to media members after the game:
"This is just a really fun win for us. They had won 14 in a row. And on their radio show (Viking Roundball Hour on WKOV FM 96.7) last night (Thursday), that was the trivia question (Wellston's most recent win over Vinton County). That really, really upset me. I'll be honest with you. I'd like you (media) to say that. You don't need to make a mockery of somebody else, and that is what they did last night. To have the guts to say the night before you play somebody how many times have you beat them consecutive, that is rubbing it in their face. Salt in the wounds. And don't think that didn't help us tonight. I didn't think that had to happen, but it did. I would never do that. I thought that was classless on their part and I would like to say that. That definitely didn't hurt our situation tonight. Karma is a bear. Take it from LeBron James. Karma is a bear."

Re: 1-14 VC @ Wellston
Big win for Wellston for sure. The Vikings did not look ready to play the game. Very sloppy ball handling and poor shot selection at times.
I was impressed with the way Shawn Amerine played for the Vikings off the bench. He had nine points with 3 FG (one was a 3-pointer) and 2 for 2 from the line. He did play with a lot of inthusiasm and led the Vikings with 9 rebounds. Keep in mind, this was with very few minutes on the court.
The Vikings hustled but just didn't execute. I felt sorry for Coach Combs, but there is always the next game. Vikings never give up. Oh, by the way, the officiating was extremely questionable.

Keyser,
Pretty typical stuff from Coach Derrow. You'd think you win one game against someone you'd act like you'd been there before. Obviously, Derrow had to bring something else into it. Class is a topic he and his program should really leave alone. Im guessing if you posted Combs' quotes on here it would be an example of a coach gracious and classy in the midst of a tough defeat. I don't' know that for certain, and if I'm wrong I'll eat crow, but I'll bet I'm right.

You wanna talk about class how about the vinton people throwing bottles onto the floor or vintons coach going out to the foul line to argue a call! Yea real classy!
