Vinton Countys schedule
Vinton Countys schedule
Can anyone name the last Div 1 or Div 2 school not associated with the Tri-Valley Conference that Vinton County defeated? Just curious. When was the last time they beat a Div1 or Div 2 team anytime that had a winning record? I know they beat one team in the Sectional Tournament last season but did they have a winning record? They seem to schedule alot of teams that are Div 3 and 4. Could this be why they do not have more success at tournament time? A school as big as they and the excellent players that have have had should enable them to have lots of success against much smaller schools! Maybe John Glenn last season in early Dec.? This just came up in conversation.

Re: Vinton Countys schedule
This is just going back four seasons (2006-07 thru 2009-10). I am pretty sure all of these were Div I or II at the time.
2006-07
Athens 66-52
Waverly 75-57
New Lexington 70-69
Jackson 54-34
Philo 70-56
Athens 71-50
Warren 70-65
2007-08
Athens 98-40
Jackson 80-46
Waverly 52-39
Philo 66-55
New Lexington 44-33
Washington C.H. 60-59
Greenfield 56-55
2008-09
Logan 45-44
Jackson 65-41
Gallia Academy 45-42
2009-10
John Glenn 51-38
Sheridan 47-46
Tournament games are italicized.
Athens was not in the TVC during 06-07 and 07-08 seasons. These are the Division I and Div II teams that the Vikings beat outside the TVC. You would have to look up the W-L records of those teams when Vinton County played them to accurately answer your question. I have neither the time nor inclination to do so.

Thanks Buba - About what we thought. John Glenn best win the last couple of years. Rest of the Div 2 teams have losing records. Why no Chillicothe, Logan Elm? Some of those were league teams.
Jackson and Logan have had bad records. Sheridan under .500, Greenfield was a quaility win.
Looks like 2 quality wins out of all of those wins versus Div 1 and 2. Came up in conversation and we were just curious. Lots of wins vs Div 3 and mostly losing teams freom Div 1 and 2. Thanks again for the response Buba.

Won a District Title in 2008. Logan Elm and Chillicothe are the only other SE teams to win a District title in the past 5 years.
Most leagues have 14 league games or so and teams like Chillicothe play in a lot of showcases, taking up most of their non-league(and if not, they go towards Dayton or Columbus) while Logan Elm doesn't exactly play a murderers' row outside of their league either(ZT and Westfall included)
VC plays in a couple of shootouts and can't control who they get setup to play(why would ZT schedule them vs Fairfield?) But, they do play a neighboring school(Southeastern) in the non-league. I'd like to see them take their yearly scrimmages against Unioto into the regular season as its not a long drive for either and would be nice for Coach Combs and Coach Miller to coach against their former schools and its another D2 opponent.

I like that comment.
Only 2 D2 teams reach the districts from their sectional each year and they seem like they have been there for about 7 of the past 9 years, which would be more than any other team in the SE district, so that is tournament success, even if its not making it to the Final Four. Its making it to the last 64 teams, which is an accomplishment that many teams don't do.
