Athens sectional might be one of the worst D3s in 10 to 15 years. The fact that Meigs might be a 1 seed makes me laugh.

Would love to see Portsmouth get #2 at Jackson, but there's work to be done.......the Trojans will have to go without a loss the rest of the way.

I think Chesapeake is a lock for #1 at Jackson, but right now I would have to go with Piketon for #1 at Waverly, with Peebles a possible #1 if the Redstreaks lose somewhere.......if PHS beats Zanesville, that's a strong statement for that #1 spot.

The Athens sectional looks to be really down, and it looks like Meigs might have the edge for that #1 seed, beating Fairland head to head, but this sectional might end up having 3-4 teams vying for the top spot.

Jackson
1. Chesapeake
2. Portsmouth
3. Ironton
4. Oak Hill
5. Burg
6. Valley
7. South Point
8. Minford
9. Rock Hill
10. Ports. West
11. Coal Grove

Waverly
1. Piketon
2. Peebles
3. Paint Valley
4. Eastern Brown
5. Huntington
6. North Adams (I think they will turn the rest of the season around)
7. Northwest
8. Westfall
9. Lynchburg Clay
10. West Union
11. Adena

Athens - (Flip a coin)

Wellston and Southeastern were/are playing pretty good ball right now and could beat anybody on this list with some luck.

Not trying to put down Peebles, but what is their record? What quality wins do they have? What losses do they have? I'm unaware of their schedule thus far.
Piketon has beaten Mifflin on the road, Waverly on the road, Greenfield on a neutral floor I believe, and Unioto at home (all DII opponents).
They still have games scheduled against Zanesville (home), Vinton County (neutral), and Unioto (road). I just find it hard to believe that they wouldn't get the 1 seed at Waverly.

I also believe that Portsmouth will take the 2 seed in Jackson behind the Peake and ahead of Ironton. I would imagine that the coaches will look at the circumstances of Andrew Bendolph when casting their vote. They will be a tough team to knock off if they play their game. HOWEVER...The Portsmouth fans shouldn't be ordering state tickets just yet.

And lastly, I don't even know what to say about the Athens sectional. When the predicted 3 seed has a losing record, its kind of difficult to make predictions.
Enjoy your weekends folks. Stay safe and hope that this snow melts before Friday's action. Best of luck to all teams the rest of the way.

If you go legitimate now, not at start of the year, Portsmouth is the best talent in the jackson draw. Chesapeake will be #1. The peake is a great team and they wont play many good teams from here until the draw. The peake will also benefit from conference affiliation. Portsmouth is my pick. They are just flat out loaded! Ironton should be #3, but they have alot of tough teams left to play. If you go by recored alone, they may slip as far as 5th.
one thing is for sure, you will have to beat some good talent to get to the final four this year!!

Peebles has also lost to Manchester, which is DIV, but a good DIV team. But still, Piketon should be the #1 overall seed in the Waverly sectional if they go unblemished. Even if they will get a loss to Zanesville or Vinton County (even tho I'm a Piketon faithful, I think they will lose to one of those teams), I still think they will get the #1 overall seed.

Piketon will probably be the #1 baring 3 or 4 losses at season's end. My ranking was purely on my assessment of the potential tournament run rather than possible seeding....but I am a Peebles fan :-D . For those who wasent sure about Peebles's record they are 8-1 at the moment with good wins over CNE(D2-tied for their conference lead), Fairfield(D4 but look for them to make a run at the district title this season), Eastern Brown(Always have a solid team..beat South Point/Alexander), Whiteoak(beat them by more than Oak Hill accomplished...better team than their record shows), and Northwest(Burg beat them by 8..Peebles beat them by 28). The Indian's only loss, with three of our starters in foul trouble, was to 10-1 Manchester who is one of the top 3, if not the best, D4 team in SEO. Currently Peebles is averaging 75.2ppg while holding opponents to just 51ppg for a +24.2ppg differential on average. Not saying their the best D3 team in SEO but they should make some noise come tourny time.

In all honesty, neither Piketon or Peebles has played much of a schedule so far this year. Piketon's schedule is definately a clear notch above Peebles. Peebles really doesnt have a signature win this year against a premium team but they have blown almost everybody out pretty easy. A win against Manchester would give them one. I look for Peebles to be tested against Fairfield this Sunday in Columbus.

I think Southeastern will be either the 3 or the 4 seed in Athens. They are 6-6 right now, after just beating a good Unioto(9-3) and should be a game or two over .500 when the draw comes. They are finally healthy and have their full team for the 1st time all year.

Waverly:
1- Piketon
2- Peebles
3- Paint Valley
4- Huntington
5- Eastern Brown
6- Westfall
7- North Adams
8- Lynchburg
9- Northwest
10- Adena
11- West Union

Jackson:
1- Chesapeake
2- Portsmouth
3- Wheelersburg
4- Ironton
5- Oak Hill
6- Valley
7- South Point
8- Minford
9- Rock Hill
10- West
11- Coal Grove

Athens:
1- Meigs
2- Fairland
3- Wellston
4- Southeastern
5- Nelsonville
6- River Valley
7- Alexander
8- Zane Trace
9- Belpre
10- Federal Hocking
11- Crookesville

Toughest games Peebles has left on the schedule are Fairfield, Manchester, and Ripley, all league games.

The draw is deja vu from last year...loaded Jackson sectional and an Athens schedule that's worth going to for the popcorn @ concessions.

Jackson
1. Chesapeake
2. Ironton
3. Portsmouth
4. Oak Hill
5. Burg
6. Valley
7. South Point
8. Minford
9. Ports. West
10. Rock Hill
11. Coal Grove

Waverly
1. Piketon
2. Peebles
3. Eastern Brown
4. Paint Valley
5. Huntington
6. Westfall
7. Lynchburg
8. Northwest
9. North Adams
10. West Union
11. Adena

I haven't followed the teams in the Athens sectional well enough to rank them.

jchitwood: Ironton over Portsmouth (9-4) for that #2 seed? On what basis? Portsmouth beat the Tigers 66-41 at Ironton, and have played a very good schedule like Ironton to date...Chillicothe (10-1), Warren (10-1), Marietta tomorrow (9-2), 3 D1 schools in Florida (PHS went 2-1)...both schools right now have 4 losses. Portsmouth will have another game with Chillicothe and Marietta before the draw, as well as a game at Warren if it is postponed and rescheduled before then. Ironton's game vs. Huntington Prep is after the draw.

If the Trojans win out to the draw, I think they definitely deserve the #2 seed. Winning out will put PHS at 14-4 or 15-4, depending on the status of the Warren game.

Well, are we ranking where we think the SHOULD be, or where they'll end up? Ironton has a much easier schedule than the Trojans for the remainder of the season. Portsmouth may be a better team, but we can all think of examples where a good team with a less-than-stellar record (from playing better competition) was seeded too low...Portsmouth 2009, anyone?

You'd hope that they would get their just placement after playing Chilli, Logan, Warren and Company, but I'm just guessing at what'll happen behind those closed doors.

Is tonight's game against Warren cancelled?

Every year people argue over seedings and the teams get seeded basically by best record straight down to the worst record. Watch and see.

jchitwood: Portsmouth's game with Warren has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb.19th.......a win over the Warriors could have given the Trojans more fuel for that #2 spot.......still, a 14-4 record, with 9 straight wins, a convincing win over Ironton, wins over Chillicothe and Marietta, 2-1 in Florida, and undefeated with Andrew Bendolph back would be strong points in PHS's favor.

I fully understand your point about how it should turn out and how it may turn out.......all schools at one time or another have felt the disappointment or reward of sectional seeding.

I actually felt Portsmouth got a good break last year with a #5.......then once again our season ended in the sectional with a poor performance vs. Valley.

The draw is Feb 13th so Warren vs Portsmouth won't factor seeding.

Really? I'm not that big a basketball fan, but which schedule would you rather play? By the way, I think Portsmouth is the better team and should have the higher seed, but Ironton has an easier schedule?

Portsmouth:
Jan. 22 Marietta
Jan. 28 Jackson
Feb. 1 Chillicothe
Feb. 4 @ Marietta
Feb. 11 Gallia Academy
Feb. 18 @ Logan

Ironton:
Jan. 22 @ Chesapeake
Jan. 29 Waverly
Feb. 1 Gallia Academy
Feb. 5 @ Huntington, WV
Feb. 8 Wheelersburg
Feb. 11 @ Manchester
Feb. 12 Hurricane, WV
Feb. 15 Huntington Prep, WV
