Jimmy: The Chef thinks Piketon should get the #1 seed at Waverly even if they were to drop a game this weekend. Strength of schedule has to mean something. The Chef isn't saying the Streaks have an impossible schedule in comparison to Peebles yet The Chef thinks it's tougher. Just The Chef's biased opinion. League games are preset so schools can't do much about them. But non-league games are the key. Do you schedule games against similar size schools, smaller schools, or go big.
Strength of schedule is forever a debate and one that usually is tough to put a number on. The Chef knows why coaches schedule tough games outside of their general area, but many times it hurts teams in the draw. The hope is a few losses here and there won't matter and playing the tough games will make them better and prepare them for the tournament.
But the truth is The Chef believes it does very much play a huge factor in things. For example if Ironton or Portsmouth were in Waverly sectional, they'd be looking at #3 or #4 based on records when one could argue they could be a #1 based on their strength of schedule and still having a good record. It's kind of like darned if you do and darned if you don't.
Always an interesting debate.

chef- Peebles plays Ripley(14-1) on Saturday, so they also could drop a game this week.

sparky- 4 teams come out of each sectional.

Good breakdown a couple of posts ago by expert witness on the Athens sectional. The league voting in that one could be really interesting on Sunday.

Wins over d2 VC 12-3 and d2 Athens , Marion Catholic is rated in the top 5 of the Columbus Dispatch Poll, a good Eastern Pike team, and won at NY. Other wins are New Boston, Miller, and Ovc 9-3, Rock Hill. Who has a better resume besides Fairland? Wellston has also won 7 out of their last 9. Wellston has 9 wins. Nobody else has more than 7. The other teams have not played that strong of a schedule. The Alex and Meigs losses were real early in the season. Won 7-9 since. Do you have a team of interest in this Sectional? Why does Wellston getting a 2 seed bother you? Oh that's right! Because it's Wellston. You should probably worry about the D2 Sectional, and quit politicing against Wellston. Those numbers have changed since then also. Meigs has lost 4 straight. Alex has lost 2 straight and so forth.
Can I not be a high school basketball fan and offer my opinion? It has nothing to do with Wellston. I was merely pointing out that prepster had said that they were 1-4 against the sectional field, but were deserving of the 2 seed. I find this curious. In my opinion, and my opinion only, if everyone wins out, I believe it should go to Meigs, then maybe Wellston or Alexander. However, you simply cannot ignore the TWO 27 point losses to Alexander. Regardless, it has been a great year for the Golden Rockets.

No, you can't! You are a fan of a DII school so you should not post any question, commentary, or any other thing remotely involving DI, DIII, or DIV teams. Additionally, you should not post anything on the Junior High or Biddy League forums as well because you don't have a dog in that fight either. The only way that there would be any exception to this is if you have the express, written consent of mustang77. He and prepster make the rules on this thread and the inter net so don't think for a second, Pupeye, that your opinion matters or works for the benefit of theirs.

In fact, in your spare time, don't even think about DI, DIII, or DIV....its none of your business.

expert witness wrote:new athens tourny draw predictions:

(1) Fairland (clear cut)
(2) Wellston (they helped themselves with the athens win and earned some respect.
9 wins is too much for Alex or RV to overcome.)

(3) Alexander(politics keep them in this spot. it probably should go to RV. If they lose to NY
this week they might fall to 6 or 7)

(4) River Valley (playing very well right now.could easily end up with the 3)
(5) Meigs (only because of league votes. if they lose to athens and wellston this week
the freefall continues to the 6 spot but i doubt they go any lower)

(6) Southeastern (this will be interesting because the 3 seed will not want southeastern
to be in this spot. they would much rather see meigs or NY here.
this could work to the advantage of SE and get them the 5 spot)

(7) Nelsonville (could be dangerous. have a few nice players.)
(8) Belpre (they are so injured right now i dont see them being a threat)
(9) Zane Trace (could be dangerous, especially in this sectional)
(10) Fed Hock (no threat)
(11) Crooksville (no threat)

Predictions:

(6)southeastern vs (11) crooksville : Southeastern

(7) Nelsonville vs (10) Fed Hock: Nelsonville

(8) Belpre vs (9) Zane Trace: Zane Trace

(4)River Valley vs (5) Meigs: River valley

(1) Fairland vs (9) Zane Trace: Fairland

(2) Wellston vs (7) Nelsonville: Wellston

(3) Alexander vs (6) Southeastern: Southeastern

Advance to the Convo: Fairland, River Valley, Wellston, Southeastern

Advance to District Finals: Fairland (maybe)
River Valley could easily be 9-9 by weeks end and the draw!

Wellston improves to 10-6 with their 51-41 victory over East tonight. Thats 8 wins out of their last 10 games. Wellston played alot of kids and over came a very poor shooting night to gain the victory. Austin Craig and Nigel Courts led the Rockets with 13 points each. Justus Ousley had 14 rebounds and 8 blocks for the winners.

Peebles beat Ripley, previously 16-1, tonight by 10pts. The Indians are now 17-1. With Piketon losing to Vinton County could this be enough to put Peebles into the #1 spot???

Big jumps tonight Oak Hill moves to the three in Jackson,Ironton had a tough schedule but only one really quality win,and that was against Huntington, they lost to all the other good teams they played, and Peebles who is the better team in the Waverly sectional jumps Piketon for sure now with a big win against Ripely, and Piketons loss to V.C.

Didn't Oak Hill lose to Valley on Friday? Oak Hill has lost to Minford, Northwest and Fairland. Those teams are not basketball power houses this year. Why would they move to a #3 seed? I can't see them any higher than a #4 but politics could always play a roll. By the way OHSAA needs to implement a rule about the # of games you can schedule after the draw so that Norm will quit pushing his tougher games back. Oak Hill probably ends up with two, maybe three, more losses before the tourney even starts. They are that decimated with injuries.

How do you determine the top 6 seeds in the Athens Sectional?
Fairland 12-6
Wellston10-8
Meigs9-10
Southeastern 9-9
River Valley 8-10
Alexander 7-10

Do you go on records( most wins)?
Do you go on head to head?
Fairlands win/loss oct of teams they beat is only .360
Wellstons pct is .410
Meigs pct is .530
SE pct .290
Alex pct is .400
RV pct is .280

Quality wins
Meigs has defeated Fairland, Wellston 2 Alex, Vinton, Wahama
Wellston quality wins Vinton, Athens,, Marion Catholic, Eastern
SE quality wins are Paint Valley 2 and Unioto
Alex quality wins are Meigs, Well 2
River Valley has defeated Meigs

If you automatically say Fairland is the number 1 seed because of 12 wins then why is Wellston not the 2 seed.
If you say that Meigs beat Wellston them twice - they also beat fairland head to head.
Fairland win/loss pct of teams they beat is only .360
Wellstons is .410
Meigs is .530
SE.290
Alex .400
RV .280

The way I think it should go -
1 - Meigs 9-10
2 - Fairland 12-6
3 - Wellston 10-8
4 - Southeastern 9-9
5 - Alexander 7-10
6 - River Valley 8-10
7 - Belpre 6 -13
8 - Nelsonville 5 -13
9 - Crooksville 5 - 13
10 - Zane Trace 4 - 15
11 - Fed Hock 5-14
