Any word on whether Fairfield's point guard Quentin Williams will be playing against Portsmouth Clay? I heard he had nose surgery last week.

I haven't seen Fairfield play, but if they aren't deep and can run, they have no chance at beating Clay.

Green got the three seed. I suppose every loss that Fairfield had was to D3 #1 seeds? Clay has 6 starting seniors who are going to leave it all on the floor tomorrow night. Fairfield is going to have their hands full trying to contain all of them.

No doubt about any of that. I just don't understand the if they aren't deep and and can run statement. The best D4 teams of the past decade were typically only 6-7 deep.

It would be bad for Clay to start the game off getting a penalty for having one too many players on the floor :122249. Seriously though, this should be a great matchup. Fairfield has one of the best players in the entire district in Cox but the play of their gaurds should decide the outcome of this one. Williams being able to play will be a big factor.rockyraccoon wrote:Green got the three seed. I suppose every loss that Fairfield had was to D3 #1 seeds? Whiteoak went to the Final 4 with 7 and Elite 8 with 6.

Clay has a couple of other players who come off the bench and play good role postitions. A lights out three point shooter and a couple of good ball handler, so I would put them at at least 8 deep.

Congrats to the lions! Was Williams able to play in this one?
Re: Fairfield (8-9) #5 vs. Clay (11-8) #4 @ Valley HS 3/1
Williams did play limited minutes with a mask. 14-12 at halftime, one of the worst first halves I have seen. Cox got more involved in the offense in the 2nd half and Fairfield pulled away.

We thought number 22 for clay was hitting good in the second half, why didnt clay set him some picks to get him more shots???

Even after the game I still do not understand this comment... Fairfields "9th man" scored 4 critical points in the 3rd quarter...looks like they were deep. Also Fairfield scored over 40 points in second half...looks like they ran a lot on clay.run-n-gun wrote:I haven't seen Fairfield play, but if they aren't deep and can run, they have no chance at beating Clay.

One of Clay's downfall throughout the season is not feeding the hot shooter. I thought their main problem tonight was going away from the zone defense and going into man to man. Both times they did, Fairfield went on big runs. Fairfield was way too much faster than Clay overall, and man to man match-ups weren't there. In zone, I thought they played them pretty even. I haven't heard what Fairfields shooting percentage was, but it wasn't very good from outside the paint.OZZIEOHIO wrote:We thought number 22 for clay was hitting good in the second half, why didnt clay set him some picks to get him more shots???

you could have played zone and they would have just held the ball - you always go man when you are trying to get back in a game!!!
