Southeast District D4 Rankings 2-17-11
Re: Southeast District D4 Rankings 2-17-11
Thanks for the explanation Jimmy! That would have been a major disappointment for our kids knowing that the SOC schools not only voted for Manchester as the #1 seed, but also orchestrated it to have Notre Dame be the #6 seed. It would be hard to vote Notre Dame over Whiteoak knowing that 6 of Notre Dames wins came vs East, New Boston and Western.......but coaches usually do what is in their best interest and can't really blame them for that.
I appreciate the discussion and the fact that we can get on here and discuss things without putting down kids or getting stupid. It pains me to read the Portsmouth vs Chesapeake stuff on here. That is becoming very muddy.
There is no doubt (and I hope I have said this in type) that I have a South Webster Bias and want what is best for them. With that being said I believe that the seeds this year at the valley sectional ended up more fairly than in most years. Manchester definitely had an argument for the 1 seed and after they received it the other teams are seeded pretty accurately in my opinion.

I heard Manchester lost to Fairfield again. Wasn't it speculated that they purposely put off that game in fear of losing and dropping down in the seedings. Makes you wonder now.

New (and possibly final) Rankings will be out sometime today. Have to make sure I have my schedules updated correctly. By the way did anybody get first hand information on East beating New Boston. That score really shocked me as I thought NB had improved playing some competitive games down the stretch.

pleasanttiger: don't think it was "wrong" for ND coach to vote the way he thought. I just find it interesting that he must not have been too impressed by Webster even after losing to them by 22pts in one of Webster's worst performances of the year (Webster was flat after a long-layoff, but still managed to win by 20+). Could be he was just really impressed by Manchester, who ND didn't play and likely has never seen play. Either way, as Webster and Manchester are pretty even teams, it's just something contrived to fire up the kids who may otherwise tend to be looking past ND (they played Clay tough last week, so Webster better be ready to play).*

All the same, they lost to them twice. Had this game been played before the tourney draws thing might have been shakin up a bit, and I think it was delayed with that in mind. Not that they were the only teams to do it, there were several games that could have and should have been played before the draws.TribeManiac10 wrote:They lost by 2 and their starting point gaurd was out with an ankle injury.rockyraccoon wrote:I heard Manchester lost to Fairfield again. How do you lose to someone "again" as quoted above, if you haven't lost to them previously. I am pretty sure I read that Fairfield beat them early in the year but 10 or more points. Can someone correct me if I am wrong, but there was speculation on this site that was the reason they didn't want to play this game before 2-13-11.2026 wrote:Manchester lost to Fairfield once this year.

Can Wahama be ex-communicated and annexed from WV to this thread because they do play in the TVC, play most of their games against Ohio teams and a lot of people from Meigs, Athens and Gallia counties shop at the Wal-Mart on the WV side of the river and they beat Eastern (Meigs) the #1 team in your poll 56-52 tonight and they're the #8 D-IV team in Ohio per the final AP Poll ? Just thought I'd give it a try.

Huge win for a very talented Wahama team. Unfortunately, they are not a Southeast District team but would have been in the top 10 most of the year probably.
I held off on the rankings just for the result of this game - definitely a change at the top.

Just having some fun with original post but you do a good job putting this together. Don't drop Eastern too far down though, Thanks !!!!!jimmy chipwood wrote:FANOSPORTS wrote:Can Wahama be ex-communicated and annexed from WV to this thread because they do play in the TVC, play most of their games against Ohio teams and a lot of people from Meigs, Athens and Gallia counties shop at the Wal-Mart on the WV side of the river and they beat Eastern (Meigs) the #1 team in your poll 56-52 tonight and they're the #8 D-IV team in Ohio per the final AP Poll ? Does one vote make the difference? Obviously there would have to be some kind of common thinking for it to work out perfectly - one vote wouldn't guarantee anything.BlindWhiteHat wrote: My big concern with these draws is when coaches have the ability to "choose their opponent" with the vote. When a higher seeded team gets to cast a vote to pick his opponent or to avoid an opponent, that is just a manipulation of the system.
Also, open question. Once the teams are seeded, don't the teams start placing themselves on the board from #1 thru whatever? Meaning again, there's no guarantee that certain teams are going to go to your side of the bracket.

Fairfield was without their starting point guard also, and my guess is exactly that Manchester didn't want to play the Fairfield Lions before tournament play in fear of losing and dropping in the district seedings.
