Division IV District Player of the Year, Blevins or Cox?
Re: Division IV District Player of the Year, Blevins or Cox?
Scott and Loop from SW should be mentioned.
Re: Division IV District Player of the Year, Blevins or Cox?
samuelk: Wes Loop from South Webster was the District 14 coaches player of the year last year.
With Cox only playing around half the season, I don't believe he can be a front-runner.
I would have understood your title if you asked if Blevins would repeat. The title makes it seem that ONLY these 2 have a chance and that is laughable.

I believe Cox missed four games, not half the season. I may be incorrect, but didn't Blevins miss some games due to injury last year? Missing games doesn't seem to be an automatic disqualification. Glad I could make you laugh.

neither one will get itstreetballer wrote:blevins will more than likely get it but in all honesty combs deserves it more and should win it...but both of them being in consideration will take votes away from each other

Scott is my pick over Blevins and Cox. I have seen all of them play and the most impressive on my behalf is the Scott kid.jeeper wrote:Scott and Loop from SW should be mentioned.

Not 100% sure but I think the coach has to nominate his player/players for voting. I dont think there are to many coaches who would nominate 2 players from the same team even if they were both deserving. Typically, (if kid is not in doghouse) the coach would nominate the upperclassmen thinking that the Junior has next year.

Scott dominates the ball and puts up big numbers but not real impressive stats. I am surprised that Coaches would get caught up by that. But I guess it goes back the ancient argument of MVP or MOP. Scott is definitely not up an upset, just think it is funny that everyone was picking Cox, Blevins, and Combs. The SW bias continues!!! They are like the USC or Patriots of the SE District in Div. IV. Hope everyone realizes they are by far the biggest DIV school in the area, will probably move back to DIII where they belong sooner than later.

Are you serious? They "belong" where the enrollment numbers say they belong. Maybe Webster is highly thought of because they have only lost a handful of D-4 games in the last decade, have a state championship, technically 3 regional championships, and have had several 17+ win seasons while playing in a D-2 and D-3 league.
Congratulations to Connor. What an asset to have guard who can score and rebound as well as Connor does.

They are the biggest left in the DIV tournament, but not "by far". I looked through the enrollment numbers on OHSAA and got the list below. This shows the number of boys in grades 9-11 in 2008. I am pretty sure it will be redone after this season. The cutoff to be DIV was <128 boys. Basically, the biggest 200 schools are DI, next 200 are DII and so on....GlenwoodGURU wrote:Hope everyone realizes they are by far the biggest DIV school in the area, will probably move back to DIII where they belong sooner than later.
South Webster 116
Manchester 113
South Gallia 100
Southern 91
Whiteoak 89
Keep in mind that some DIII schools aren't that far away from DIV and "could" go down a division if enrollment numbers are low. With the lack of jobs in SEO, I don't see any of our local schools moving up a division in the next realignment. It depends a lot on where the "lines are drawn" between each division (it changes every time).
Burg 150
Peebles 147
Lynchburg Clay 147
Oak Hill 145

4th n Goal, Thanks for the list. I am all for equality and "the count" being done on a year to year basis to help move a long new schools like Africentric. I remember very well the trouble that they caused the Jeeps in 05. But come on SW never did anything in the 90s because they were Div III, their enrollment dropped or there were more schools added to the overall count and now they are basically unbeatable to SOC 1 and other SE District Div IV teams. Same thing with Oak Hill, they get one maybe two years at Div 4 and win a State Championship. These two championships have been great for the SE District and have given us a lot of street cred throughout the state. But you have to feel for the New Boston's, East's,Southern's, and South Gallia's and Green's of the world who have sectional and district championships robbed by schools with yearly enrollment anomolies.
And yes congratulations to Connor Scott, he has been the straw that stirs the drink for the Jeeps this year.

Congratulations Mr. Scott. You are a great athelete and a great student.
Cedarville University is getting a hard worker; on the field, on the court, and most importantly...in the classroom. Good Luck at the next level.

Its no anomaly. This is Webster's 9th season in D-4. Why can't you just attribute Webster's success to great players like Connor or great coaches like Ater and Kreischer. You won't catch Burg or Oak Hill fans complaining about getting "robbed" by D-3 schools that are so much bigger. Real competitors relish the opportunity to beat someone bigger and better.
Re: Division IV District Player of the Year, Blevins or Cox?
I don't understand the "puts up big numbers, but not impressive stats?"
Connor's stats are?
17.0 ppg, 6.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists....... Shot over 40% from 3 point territory.......
I sure hope he is ready to play on Saturday..........
Maybe we should have a division 5 for the REALLY small schools? :122245
By the way, I have heard that Valley will be Division 4 for the next 2 years......

Re: Division IV District Player of the Year, Blevins or Cox?
I am not denying that South Webster is a division 4 powerhouse, they are, and the players that have came out of that program in the past decade should be proud to be a Jeep. But the reason that Ater and Kreischer and other big time high school coaches have tried to get that job in the past few years is because you are going to win Sectional and District Championships there because the other D4 teams in the district just cant contend with the talent. Ater is great (exactly what they needed after the last guy) and Kreischer was maybe one of the best coaches to come into the se district in years but he also had "freaking studs", they were "freaking studs"! Now to the "real competitors comment", when it comes to tourney time SW doesnt have to beat anyone that is bigger or better. When SW goes zone like they did more in the second half of the season it might be the biggest D4 zone in the state. If SW loses Saturday it will be an upset, I predicted the Jeeps to win and will be cheering for them because I still support all SOC schools.
Im impressed with the specificity of those stats!!!
Valley will be a great D4 team! They will contend for the district...they always have athletes and that matters in D4.
