Only tourny runs. One thing on this thread that is true is that Howie left Southern when the talent was gone, and has done the same at Eastern. He must think there is a lot of talent at FH for him to take that job. Of course if rumors are accurate he could be seeing all that talent going to waste at NY.
How long did he coach at Southern and Eastern? Has he coached anywhere else?

Has Fed Hock played in any shootouts this summer? I haven't heard anything about them playing anywhere.

They have been in some but they are working on the "Spotlighter Express" offense which will apparently include a juiced up version of the Wheel. I seriously doubt most of these younger coaches even know how to defend that play since it hasnt been used in a long time. I will jump on board and predict an undefeated season for Coach and his minions this winter.

Coach Caldwell had some teams with a lot of talent at Southern 1988 and Eastern 2001 and 2005. gahs-4ever you would have to be native to think the talent wasn't down when he left Southern and that the talent isn't down at Eastern this year. Coach Caldwell has been successful at Southern and Eastern when the talent was down. Last year not too many people picked Eastern to win the league and they only lost two league games. So he does get the most out of his players but to make a tournament run it takes both talented players and good coaching. I can't blame him for not wanting to stick around and rebuild a team at this stage of his career but I can't see him making a tournament run at Fed Hock with the district they have to come out of without they are going to be division four in the future.
Yes and he also had some great talent a few times at Eastern and was picked to win the league and didn't. So apparently he does not always get the most out of his players.

I'm not sure what year or team you are talking about? Fed Hock had some pretty good teams in the early 2000's until about 2007. You sure your not thinking about your own team. They have had a lot of talent on a few of those teams only to lose to less talented teams. What I am talking about getting the most out of his players is they always defend well take charges and flop. They come off of picks hard and cut hard to the basket. They do the fundamental things the right way that other teams get lazy on. I'm not a fan of coaches and players jumping teams but I understand why both do it. I have seen some good loyal coaches get thrown under the bus in the last few years because the talent was down. I have also seen some good players get screwed by being loyal to their team and coach.

only reason he stayed at eastern last year is because he knew he had a chance to win the tvc. It was without a doubt the weekest league in history of the league. He does leave when the talent is gone, fact

Three of the four teams to advance out of the D4 Wellston sectional to the districts were TVC Hocking teams so if the league was the weakest ever it doesn't say much about other leagues.

The great John,
Come'on, the sectional is usually dominated by the smaller TVC Hocking schools and the only competition most years is from Symmes Valley/Beaver Eastern. I don't think this is to much to brag about since a TVC Hocking boys team has not advanced past the convo in recent years. I do believe a team called Manchester has. With respect....

Well for a TVC Hocking team to advance past the Convo they would have to play in the state tournament. Not to many leagues do that year in and out. In 2009 Southern advanced to the regionals and got beat by the state champs, Oak Hill, that came out of that weak Wellston sectional you are talking about. In 2009 I watched a district championship with two teams from the Hocking playing each other. I don't believe a team called Manchester was one of them. With respect.........

The rumor is true. Mark sheets, an upcoming Junior, has transferred to Federal Hocking from Meigs. Measured him against Saylor and if Saylor is in fact 7 foot tall, Mark is more like 6'9"-6'10".

It's a proven fact to be successful you have to have transfers.

Maximus the Merciful wrote:disagree totally...he is a great coach who spent many years at Southern before moving on to Eastern. He had many successful seasons with limited talent both at Southern and Eastern. Coaches tend to step on toes the longer they stay at a place. Jim Osborne of Gallia Academy told me once that you make 5 enemies every year you coach at a school. Good luck to Howie.
This is true that he spent many years at Southern before leaving for Eastern, But it is also true that every year he has chose to leave a school its obvious the talent pool is down for that upcoming year. Not trying to take anything away from him at all, just stating the situation. Coach Caldwell is a great coach and will get the most out of every group of young men he coaches. He will find success at any school he coaches at. I wish him luck in this upcoming season.

On a sidenote, how strange is it that he is teaching at Eastern but coaching at Fed? He did the same thing when he left Southern for eastern. Also I was told that he is coaching Volleyball at Eastern.....any truth?

When you get a good coach kids will want to go play for them. However if you remember he had height at Eastern with Dill, Cross and then had Cozart but couldn't beat Federal Hocking with Hornsby, Butcher, Rupe and others. So Size not really a big factor.
