Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2012-2013
My guess is
1 Sky Oliver
2 Ky're Alison
3 Jaylen Carter
4 Alex Dickerson
5 Levi Porter
Another that could see significant time or crack starting 5 is Austin Peno in the 4 or 5 spot.
Just my guess sure Dave will be able to tell us more

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2012-2013
Right now, Austin Peano will most likely start in place of Alex Dickerson, but Alex will see a lot of minutes for sure......and there is the possibility that Alex could end up starting at some point of the season.
The Trojans will have two significant challenges in 2012-2013.......1) developing a chemistry with so many new players, and 2) rebounding/interior defense........the first issue will happen in the first 3rd of the season, while the second issue will probably be a season long challenge for the Red and Blue.......it will have to be rebounding by committee, with the guards having to help out.
6-4 Peano, 6-4 Porter, 6-2 Dickerson, 6-2 Alex Grashel, and 6-2 Hunter Gibson are the bigs on this team........the guards will consist of Jayllen Carter, Sky Oliver, Kyre Allison, Isaiah Lisath, Kahlil Lattimore, Connor Lasswell, and Arrick Montgomery. Gibson most likely will be the only player to split time on the JV and varsity.
The varsity squad consists of 5 seniors, 3 juniors, 3 sophomores, and 1 freshman.
I have the Trojans going 15-7 on the basis of the backcourt........looking at the schedule and seeing what everyone has coming back, I can't see 1 team that has a better threesome than Jayllen, Sky, and Kyre........there are a number of teams that have the advantage in the frontcourt.......i.e., Warren/Ironton/Brookhaven........but the Trojans can play with anyone in the backcourt. Last year, the trio of Dion McKinley, Wayne Evans, and Zaide Whitley accounted for 45 PPG.......Jayllen, Sky, and Kyre could very well challenge that mark. I really believe that Levi and Austin have improved from the JV team a year ago, and have grown an inch or two.
Ironton, Brookhaven, and Warren will probably be the 3 best teams the Trojans will face........Ironton(Trey Fletcher, Aaron Stephens, Dion Brown, and Trevor White) and Warren(Evan French and Reece Patton) will have a decided edge up front, but the Trojans should be able to match up well in the backcourt(yes, I know the Tigers have Zac Carter, but PHS has a very nice trio of JC, SO, and KA........Brookhaven is rated in Central Ohio as the top D2 team in that district and quite possibly a top 10 D2 team in the state.
The bench will provide some excellent quickness which will help Coach Collins to press if he chooses, and PHS should be able to defend on the perimeter very well........the success of the team will ultimately come down to, as listed above, how well the Trojans rebound and defend in the paint.........if the bigs can hold their own(they don't have to be great), then there's enough talent to win 15 games. Conversely, if the Trojans struggle to grab the ball off the glass and allow post players to have big nights, PHS will struggle to get to that 15 game mark.
Coach Collins is well aware of what challenges face the Trojans, and his track record in his 3 years at PHS gives me confidence that he can mend the shortcomings of the 2012-2013 Men of Troy.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2012-2013
Just looked up Johnson Central's roster from last year.......the Golden Eagles represented the 15th Region in the 2012 KHSAA Sweet 16 state tournament........according to the box score from their first round game last year, which was a 49-36 loss to John Hardin, they have all 5 starters back for this season, including 6-7, 145 LB. Shane Hall, who is now a junior. They started two freshmen and two other sophomores in the game vs. John Hardin.
This game looks to be a very tough test for the Trojans.......I would put Johnson Central with Ironton, Brookhaven, and Warren as PHS's toughest games.

Irontonitis has hit Portsmouth trying to build a team up to be better than they really are. After some research it is plain to see Shane Hall is all Johnson Central has.

Paul Bunyan: Not really trying to build JC up........I just posted what I found out about their team on the KHSAA Sweet 16 website.......don't really know anything else about the Golden Eagles except the fact that they won the 15th Region last year and have all 5 starters back........I would figure that they will be a very good team this year based on that.
JC has all 5 starters back, Portsmouth has 1........I think it will be a tough game for the Trojans, especially since its in the middle of December when PHS may be still trying to develop a chemistry with so many new players, and with the game being the day after Warren coming to PHS for an SEOAL contest.

They play in one of the worst regions in the state is what I have been able to find out.

Hall is 6'8", an awesome athlete, and is getting recruited by Kentucky, Indiana, Butler, Stanford, and Wake Forest so that might be all they need.paul bunyun wrote:trojandave wrote:Just looked up Johnson Central's roster from last year.......the Golden Eagles represented the 15th Region in the 2012 KHSAA Sweet 16 state tournament........according to the box score from their first round game last year, which was a 49-46 loss, they have all 5 starters back for this season, including 6-7 Shane Hall, who is now a junior.

Have you seen him play? If so when and where? Can his twin brother play? Does his twin sister play basketball too?

trojandave,,,please do not overlook Piketon...they are loaded and have a pretty good coach up the scioto river...trojandave wrote:Just looked up Johnson Central's roster from last year.......the Golden Eagles represented the 15th Region in the 2012 KHSAA Sweet 16 state tournament........according to the box score from their first round game last year, which was a 49-36 loss to John Hardin, they have all 5 starters back for this season, including 6-7, 145 LB. wipala: I am not overlooking Piketon at all........but I think there are 3-4 teams on our schedule better than the Redstreaks........Piketon will be very good, and the Trojans could come away with a loss to them (I picked us to lose 7 games), but I don't think they are as good as Ironton, Brookhaven, or Warren.......maybe Johnson Central, but I don't know a lot about them other than they have all 5 starters back from their Sweet 16 team.
