Yep, if they have identical records...VC should be above Piketon. I'm just a common sense guy....if Piketon was 15-0 I wouldn't put them ahead of Ironton..even though Ironton beat Portsmouth by 2 and Piketon beat them by 26. I think Ironton is #1 right now in the District. In my not so Humble opinion Piketon is the 3rd best team in the District, they just had a terrible start, some injuries, but are starting to put it together. Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
You could make an argument for Piketon being the second best D-3 in the region. Only one of there losses came with them being full strength I think. The Eastern one. But they seem to be really focused right now. They have size and depth and a very good coach. They stay intense and keep rebounding they can be a real force.
Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
So you would have them ranked where? 6th? I have them at #4. By your justification Vinton Co should be higher...as should Eastern Pike but how could anyone not account for the atrocious loss to Paint Valley? Strength of schedule anywhere?Jimmy the Greek wrote:Yep, if they have identical records...VC should be above Piketon. I think Piketon has the 4th best team now as they are playing great....I believe Ironton and Warren are no doubt better and believe Athens has a little higher ceiling and is playing just as well.
...but believe having Valley above them makes more sense than having Eastern and VC above them.

Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
I agree with a lot of what you say about Piketon. I'd like to play devil's advocate for a moment though. You stated "they just had a terrible start.", when describing the Streaks. By the same token ALL of Valley's varsity roster played on the Varsity football team. They had not one single player out of 11 available until the week of their first game. Add to that, they lost 4 starters and 5 seniors total from last year. Now, given all of that, wouldn't it be equally as fair to say the Indians had a rough start as well? Do you really believe Piketon is just flat out better than the Indians? Did that game not come down to poor execution down the stretch causing the Indians to blow a 7 point lead in the final 2 minutes? Doesn't it stand to reason that added game experience helps such things? Personally, I think the two teams are pretty even and if they played 10 times I'd be shocked to see anything other than a 6-4 advantage either way.Jimmy the Greek wrote:Yep, if they have identical records...VC should be above Piketon. Best of luck to your Streaks. I think coach Lisath does an incredible job up there!

Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
Piketon's terrible start included winning their first 5 games, then losing without a starter and then beating 11-4 Fairland by 30. They didn't lose their 2nd game until after Christmas. Not really a bad start.
Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
Yeah...the bad was close wins over Westfall and Southeastern....but they found a way. Hammered Fairland, which is impressive.

That's what I mean. They showed that the Westfall game was a fluke last week and will another chance tonight when they play SE. Good teams find ways to win when they don't play well. Piketon is rolling now and will have a nice draw if they keep winning.Ironman92 wrote:Yeah...the bad was close wins over Westfall and Southeastern....but they found a way. Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
I'm just jerking chains....it's not that serious. I do think Valley is a very good team. (Maybe they should both be ranked in the same spot)if you have watched this particular group at Piketon over the past two years like I have, you would have a better understanding of what I'm saying. They have figure some things out on both ends, I agree they found a way to win with the 6-1 start, but they struggled to get those wins. Since the VC loss, they've won 75-48; 73-47; 71-48; 80-42. I'm just saying they have stepped it up a notch. Could they struggle tonight...who knows...or will they struggle again....maybe...playing without their sixth man during these wins has been impressive. Time we tell how good the Streaks are as we roll down the stretch. Naturally I'm going to pull for my Alma mater!
Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
That's why I have them at #4
I think most on here have them at #5 or #6...they are tough right now and I don't know anyone that doesn't believe they will be a difficult out and regional berth is in sight again....great talent, experience and players also playing for a great great coach in his final year....you speak of football success hindering the start of the early season....baseball will have the same issues I'd imagine.
I hereby request for you to withdraw my status as a Piketon "hater"

Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
Just happy to crack the top ten. we are so up and down right now. When we are on we are deadly and can shock the likes of Piketon. and when we are off we can go down to Paint Valley. Hope we get on and stay on.
Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
VC is pretty talented and well coached....definitely not a shock beating Piketon, especially before they got rolling. Ironton and Warren would be shocking. I only watched them once but they were the most committed to rebounding team I have seen.

Who were Eastern Brown's 2 losses to? I haven't followed them as closely as I had intended to.
Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
Go to the highland county press website and click on sports and then the SHAC scores and it'll have every boys and girls score this year.

Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
Both Court House and Logan Elm lost tonight ... maybe Eastern Pike will finally get a crack at the top 10.
Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
Lol....as I typed that and went to look myself....it's got everything but the scores link on there. Stephen Forsha will get it back up soon I'm sure.Ironman92 wrote:Go to the highland county press website and click on sports and then the SHAC scores and it'll have every boys and girls score this year.
I know Hillsboro was playing well early on and knocked them off in a very tight game. My other thought is their county rival Georgetown knocked them in another tight one. Georgetown won the state title about 4 years ago....they are never a slouch.
Re: SEOP Top 10 - Week 8
Eagles won there 11th straight tonight and second short handed last game they had no Lands,no Phipps and Murphy played 1 quarter and rolled his ankle didn't play again. Tonight no Murphy our starting center. But coach Fitch figgures out how to get them going it seems. Tonight they came out a little slow for some reason but picked it up as the game continued. Without Murphy Clay had a big advantage in the paint but Pickett held strong and the guards rebounded pretty well . Any time you can get league wins on the road short handed you have to be happy. Big week next week though hope the boys get healthy.

It was: Washington Court House Miami Trace 58, London 72
not sure why they add the Court House to Trace ... lol ... kind of makes it confusing.
obviously I read it wrong.

I have the link back up ... I put PM instead of AM on the time when I added a score, and it didn't post online. Sorry about that. - Stephen
