Bulldog, if you can find a way to keep parents off facebook, please share your knowledge with the rest of us. Hawkeye, I wasn't directing anything negative towards Blaine. Simply looking at the young talent that will have a year of varsity experience along with the newbies moving up next year. It took fifty posts for someone to finally mentioned the right person for the position. Jim Kearns will do a great job.

Blaine chose to take the path of getting bashed. He was given the option to resign and have all the newspaper articles and honors at the banquet but instead he chose to tell everyone he was non renewed. That leads to bashing. Proves what many have felt for a long time that it is more about who is standing on the sidelines than who is playing between the lines. Move on, Kearns is going to be the new guy.
By the way, I form all of my opinions about schools/communities by facebook as well...haha

I would love to see Coach Kerns take the job. He would be a great fit for the program and he would be in it for the long haul.
Blaine would have gotten bashed by certain people regardless of the choice he made. You will never make everyone happy and some people will fight against you through news paper letters and facebook. That is why it is so important for coaches to make the decision they can live with and build a program the best way they know how. Some people will support you and others will tear you down, you just have to live with yourself and the decisions you have made.

I looked on the OHSAA website and the job hasn't even been posted yet. So that makes me think Kearns will get the job. Peopel within the school have first oppurtunity. Maybe they will open it to the public here soon. Or its. Done deal with Coach Kearns

I think Jimmy Kerns would make a excellent head coach as well , Blaine gave a lot of years to Alexander and like him
or hate him he did a lot for the program and the kids ,Saying that I think Alexander was over do for a change in leadership and I think that if in fact Coach Kerns does take the job he Will have a lot of support from people in the community and maybe even parents.....

The bashing/bad mouthing was done during the season - as far back as X-mas time.catsandbucks wrote:Blaine chose to take the path of getting bashed. Its not about being on facebook - it's about what you say on their ... I have 560 people on the trivalleyconference.com facebook page (all high school sports fans from across southeastern Ohio) ... I have about 350 'personal friends' - and there is about 200 people in the TVC basketball group ... of the thousands upon thousands of posts - NOBODY ever bashed a coach - except the few who 'bad mouthed' Blaine ... and the fact they would just do it out of the blue (on Athens topics) made it worse.highandtight wrote:Bulldog, if you can find a way to keep parents off facebook, please share your knowledge with the rest of us.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Kearns gets the job and the hires Coach Gabriel as his assistant.

You do understand how ad recommendations work don't you. I don't believe Kearns thinks enough of Gabriels basketball knowledge to consider him to be a qualified assistant.

So Gabriel went from most wins in school history - to not being a qualified assistant?

Also has most losses in Alexander history.
Re: Coaching Change at Alexander?
He was there more years than anyone else. But same time its not all about wins and losses. I have never heard a coach just show up 2 hours for practice and then to just coach games. You will need a coach that devotes his time all year around.

I know I am really late on this, but is this a serious post? I'm sure there has been instances where someone coached for the extra money, but considering the time and stress is takes to run a program I really doubt any of these coaches are doing it solely for the money. As far as teachers who coach, Here is a list of a few coaches from the area who have been educators while coaching....greatone wrote:Normally teachers don't make the best coaches. It's normally just extra money for them plus there's the part about being qualified.
Rob Beucler- Eastern (Final four)
Dave Young- North Adams (Final four over 300 wins)
Pat Hines- Whiteoak (Final Four)
Joe Wills- Lynchburg (Final Four)
Larry Jordan- Southeastern/Western Latham- 433 wins 15 sectionals, 8 districts, 3 regionals, and played in the 1977, 1981 and 1990 state tournament
Rick Van Matre- Greenfield 472 victories ,16 Sectional Championships, eight District Championships, and were Regional Runner-Ups three times
Norm Persin- Chesapeake/Oak Hill (State Championship)
Tom Barrick- Wheelersburg
Mike Kennedy- Ripley
Linda Hatten- Lynchburg girls
Tom Wessner- Whiteoak
Nathan Copas- North Adams
just to name a few coaches who were educators. Not a bad lookin list
If you ask me, teachers make the best coaches.........

I absolutely disagree..... Teachers should never be coaches. Performance in one should never interfere with the other aspect but it almost always does.
Re: Coaching Change at Alexander?
^^^^^^
You can't be serious? This is high school we're talking about. So you're saying a person should just coach one sport for his/her income? If you can't teach and coach because one interferes with the other, then you can't work construction and coach. You can't be a nurse and coach. I'm no expert on how much a coach makes, but around here I would guess a basketball coach would be doing good to make 6-8k a season. I'll even throw in another 2k for open gym supervisor. That is being really generous for supervising open gym. That totals 10k at a BIG school. (Just guessing)
