This should really be a great game. The first one played at Athens and this one on a neutral court....well kinda of. The twins will be a key. If they continue to block shots and rebound Athens will be in it until the very end. I also can't see Warren shooting 1/19 from the 3 line again either. As any game in the convo this won will be physical so which ever team adapts to that may very well be the key. Good luck to both.

It doesn't matter who wins, St. Clairsville is going to dine healthy on either SE team. The only advantage either Warren or Athens will have, is playing in the Convo 3 times to their 1. Nice run Bulldogs and Warriors, but your train stops here.

Its the experience that counts too ... you want to win to keep playing (more practice) ... you want to win and test yourself against a team like St. Clairsville so you know what your up against if you happen to make it back ... and since Warren and Athens are both young - its important ...

The best thing about Athens' run through the playoffs in the fall - is they played almost a season and a half ... that helps you down the road big time.

A good example of this scenerio was the Alexander volleyball team that won a state title a few years back ... as sophs they were ousted in the regional finals ... the year after they made it to the state tournament ... the year after that they won the whole thing ... coach Jeffers made it clear, had his team not gained that experience the previous two years at that level, they would have never won a championship.

individual match ups in this game definitely go to athens. however, it is a team sport. patton has been a non factor at the convo and look mfor that to continue. french is going to score his 15+, leffingwells match up could be a big deciding factor of the game. imo the match up that will decide the game is the one between watson and yabs. watson handles yabs on defnse and can score, game advantage to athens.

Yabs will probably not be matched up against Watson that much. More than likely, Hall or Lang will match up with Watson. Lang is one of the best on ball defenders that Warren has and Hall at 6'5" will give Watson some trouble on the perimeter trying to get a shot off.

Thats IF we play man, IF Reese is a non factor, IF Yabs doesnt play D, IF we dont hit a 3, IF Dyl forgets to eat his wheaties.....ahhh, maybe....maybe not. Maybe Danny gets to play Fairland ball, and maybe Duck leaves his clip board at home. MAYBE, you get all those lucky breaks, and dont win. Then what?

No, if you dont win, you cheer for Warren.... Or, you could get your baseball cleats...

Just sayin back.

From the sounds of things both teams should just pack it up, Cause The winner has to play a team thats just as good as they are....and who wants to do that??? Paaaaa lease

Now class, let's have our Biology lesson for this weeks big game....picture the Amoeba (Amoeba is a genus of Protozoa consisting of shapeless unicellular organisms)...this is the Warren Warriors 2012-2013 basketball team....a unicellular, shapeless, flowing, smothering, suffocating, flexible organism that has demonstrated it has the chemistry and capability to adapt to any opponent or challenge...the one loss in December caused this nuclear fission reaction to commence and this amoeba has grown more complex and grotesque for all opponents since....think about it, when one player is off, the others pick up....when 2 players are off, the others pick up....just about every game a different player has a monster game....TO COUNT PATTON AS A NON-FACTOR WOULD BE A FATAL MISTAKE!! (please don't guard him thank you).....this young man has the heart and resolve of a champion!! He will show up Thursday! :122249

Planning to go to DIII regional games to get the juices flowing for Thursday....not that I need it!! GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-) ;-)

MATH 101

Warren beat Athens 60-57 ... the Bulldogs were without forward Ryan Luehrman ... Luehrman scores about 6 points per game ... 57 + 6 = 63 ... 63 is greater than 57.

:)

If we're going there. Hall played on one leg and only scored 4 points. He avg 12 so that's +8
68-63 Warriors lol. Really in all sincerity really how big of an offensive threat is Luehrman? How many times has he lead the Bulldogs in scoring in a game? From what I saw at the district not much more than offensive stick backs and maybe a couple shots here or there. Defiantly not an offensive juggernaut!

Dennis Rodman never scored for the Bulls - but he was NBA All-star ... more to the game than just scoring WarriorBlue ... Luehrman COULD score if he needed too - but points are hard to come by when you have players like Burrow, Watson, Saltzmen and Elmore on the floor.

Sounds like some fans on here are really grasping for reasons why their team lost to Warren. With all due respect to Coach Skinner, I believe Warren has the biggest advantage in the coaching box. Coach Maddox does such a good job of staying calm under pressure. While other coaches are yelling and complaining, the Warrior coaching staff is planning their next adjustment. It is also impressive the FAN support that follows Warren. I am sure WARRIOR NATION will be out in massive numbers the rest of the tournament. GO BLUE !!!!

... Round 1 of Athens vs Warren at McAfee Gym in the Plains ended with the Warriors getting the "W" 60-57 ... both teams had personnel issues - Athens was without soph starter Ryan Leuhrman (injury) while Warren had everyone on the floor but Michael Hall was nursing an ankle injury (4 pts in the game) ... Athens won all of the quarter breaks BUT the most important one of being ahead when the buzzer sounded at the end of the 4th period ( Athens 13 Warren 10 after one, Athens 31 Warren 25 intermission, Athens 46 Warren 45 after 3, Warren 60 Athens 57 a final) ...

Areas of potential improvement for the Bulldogs/Warriors in Round #2 at the Convo :

Athens had 17 turnovers in Rd 1 ... 10 TOs in the 2nd half, 5 TOs in the 3rd qtr. as Warren climbed back into the game ... Athens will need to cut down on the TOs in Rd 2 ... Jared Elmore had 0 fgs in Rd 1 - the Athens BIG will need to get to the boards/get 2-3 offensive put backs for AHS scores ... Athens "length" is not as magnified vs Warren as both Hall/Patton for Warren negate the Athens wingspan in the paint - Athens had 1 block in the paint vs WHS in Rd 1 - 2 or 3 rejections/more altered shots needed in Rd 2 ... Athens was 6/20 from behind the arc in Rd 1 - the Bulldogs avg. 4-6 threes made per game, the number that is out of sorts was the 20 three point attempts - a little high for AHS on the game - fewer threes ( in the 15 for the game range) more shots in the paint/at the rim (Elmore) gives AHS separation on the board and more FT attempts (9/11 at the line in Rd 1) ...

... on the Warren side of the scorebook ... Warren had 14 TOs in Rd 1 (about the WHS season average) ... Warriors with 10 TOs for Rd 2 means they handled Athens pressure and took care of the ball in the half court game BOTH needed for the win Thursday night ... Michael Hall one of the Big Three for the Warriors with 4 points in Rd 1, not acceptable in Rd 2 , the ankle is healed - getting into the paint AND hitting a 3 ball is in the cards ... double figures is a must number for Hall in Rd 2 ... WHS was 1 for 17 from downtown 5-6 threes BELOW their season average per game - the BBB hits their average from behind the arc the Bulldogs will be playing catchup in Rd 2 ... Warren was less than 50% from the FT line (7/15) - 3 or 4 more FT made is a must for scoring separation down the stretch in the 4th ...

... should be a dandy to watch no matter which green seat you are sitting in Thursday night ... I'll take my Cheap Seat location, some Twizzlers & a water and smile the whole game while watching these to basketball TEAMS go at on the court ...
