Pioneer Valley 13-14
Re: PVC 2013-2014
I would take an 0-12 record in the PVC just to make regionals. Don't be ignorant it is still hard to do. The mighty cadets didn't win a tourney game last year. FF has been a perineal disappointment in the postseason over the years.

Re: PVC 2013-2014
Caldwell played Hiland in the sectional last year, we played our best game of the year and lost. They were the best team Caldwell played all season and I watched every game. River had to have played really well to beat them. This is a dumb argument, Fort, River, Trail and Central were all good last year and had memorable seasons.
Back to now. I went and watched Caldwell scrimmage Crooksville last night. Caldwell has six kids right now because of football. Wiechman, Harding, Leasure, Figel, McElfresh and Riski. Three varsity players, one who plays both and two jv kids. They looked really good. They are all a lot stronger and more athletic. Caldwell beat Crooksville 6 quarters and tied them twice. Crooksville has a 6'7 left handed post player, their fans said he was ineligible last year and they still almost made the regional. He is really good. They had a couple of athletic guards too. They also had the biggest high school kid I've ever seen. He was 6'9 and way over 300 lbs but he was not very good at all. I was impressed for the circumstances.

2 of those guys were JV players they will miss Beaver and Roe when they get pressured.
Re: PVC 2013-2014
Kiefer played JV and you talk about how good he is going to be. Why can't those boys be just as good?

Because Kiefer played a ton of varsity. Trails mostly all JR JV team couldn't beat Fort Fryes JV team.

Re: PVC 2013-2014
Went to FF scrimmage today that won all but 1 qt. Against Meadowbrook they won 2 of 3 qts and outscored them 39-30. I have to admit that the Colts muscled them around some they were big and physical. Fort Frye won this by causing turnovers in the half court. Fort took all 3 qts from Indian Creek prevailing by a score of 51-28. I think Creek has to be down from last yr. Fort does have things to work on sometimes the pace they are playing causing them to turn it over. Chandler made some nice shots but he's not all way back yet. As a whole they missed a ton of of layups and open shots. Seth had a sweet dunk. Justin Anderson is a fantastic freshman he is going to impress people. This team is fun to watch. Fort Frye played 9 guys on varsity- Legrean(Jr) , Lang (Sr), Anderson (Sr) , Kiefer (SO) , Madison (Jr) bench- Nicewanger (Sr), Shuster (Sr) , Anderson(Fr) , and Brooker (Jr) nice squad

Re: PVC 2013-2014
Caldwell scrimmaged at Cambridge with Licking Valley last night without Clark (concussion), Wiechman (hamstring), and Cubas (knee) and did alright. They went 1-1 against Licking Valley and 1-1-1 against Cambridge. Not to bad for only having one practice for most of those guys since football ended last week. Looked really good with Wiechman playing Monday against New Lex. Interesting to see what they will look like when everyone is there. Carpenter, Baker, Heller and Harding played pretty good last night.

I think I'm going to head to Woodsfield and catch the preview tomorrow night.
I would expect all teams to play several different players, but curious to see how everyone looks at this point in the year. Anyone else going?

I'll be there . It will be interesting to see how our young team handles the spotlight. I've been to all 3 of Rivers scrimmages and was very surprised on how they have matured as a team. Looks like we will start 1 senior, 1-junior, 2-sophomore's and 1 freshman. Sixth and seventh men are both sophomore's. Scrimmaged St. John Central won big. they are also a very young team. Next was Barnesville. Same results - I think they were fairly young also. Traveled to Garaway and played pretty well. Lost 68-64 if memory serves me correct. Should be a fun season with no pressure to win like last year.

Re: PVC 2013-2014
Trail was playing their best basketball last year when Lane Starr was @ PG. Roe & Beaver were good at times with their individual play but horrible team players and the reason for Trail's up and down season. Ever hear the the saying that a team is better by subtraction. I see Trail starting out a little slow with knee injuries to Starr & Toland but if they remain healthy I see good things from them. Do or die w/ 11 seniors on Varsity. Will be a different team also with no yappers left on the team. This is a good group of kids - much like Lang & Legraen from FF - they play hard and let their talents do the talking on the court and do not need to showboat or draw attention to themselves. Good luck to all the teams & boys.EasternDspy wrote:Just think Trail will be hurt with no guards. They struggle to slow the game down vs FF, Caldwell, and Central. As for River they had one of best teams in Hannibal history and still could not even win the PVC.

I think they will miss the two guards that graduated but they will have great chemistry and have a really solid team. The Starr boys are good basketball players, Toland is the only traditional big man in the league and the coaches son is a great role player. They find some depth and they could easily win this league.
I saw Fort was playing Waterford. Caldwell is at Doah and Central hosts a four team preview. Where is Trail playing theirs? Frontier? I kinda think previews are a waste of time but I know they make $ which drives everything.
