The Cane posted a easy 87-54 win over Withrow, in first round sectional play, at Lakota West. The Cumberland boys combined for 49 points, and the "D" forced 19 turn overs.

The next game will be on Tues., same location, at 7:30. 105.5 FM and I heart radio.

Wilmington lost to Moeller Saturday night by three points. Cumberland had a three to tie the score in the last 2 or 3 seconds but shot an airball.

There were a lot of shots that were passed on by The Junior Cumerland Jaron/Jaren? I know there a lot of would've and could'ves, looked as the coach has a choker collar on him. The game could have been won easily if they would have just cleared it out and had him go one on one for 2-3 possessions. It's championship time. Either they foul him or he makes a layup they had no one that could handle that and by the time Moller coach changed D it would have been a 6 pt swing. Look a losing coaches around southern ohio you'll find the losing ones trying to limit players talent and styles that work to the old methods of play. they may win a few with exceptional talent but lose consistently with minimal talent, those programs are dead. Greenfield, eastern, western Brown ,hillsboro, NA, SW, Manchester, Huntington( if coaches don't change with the game) just to name few, soon to be wilmington And PV. A coach that criticizes mistakes and doesn't teach and encourage isn't a coach, but a taxpayer paid Critic JMO but it's mine.

I'm starting to wonder if you've even watched several of the teams you listed play this year. Talent goes in cycles, especially for smaller schools. SEVERAL of those schools you mentioned lack TALENT, HEIGHT and NUMBERS. Several of the schools you listed have PROVEN WINNERS as their head coach. If you think it's solely because they're not clearing out and letting their best player go 1 on 1 enough, well, thank god you're not in the coaching profession as your tenure wouldn't last long.

Coaches get on kids, and push them. That's ok, as long as those coaches are the first to pick them up. The EXTREME majority of coaches you just mentioned are doing just that --- pushing, teaching, and loving their players.

LOL really? No, the coaches I have named here are losing, most can hardly recognize the complexity of your so called "Pushing" most are poor at it, especially the ones I mentioned. Who is a Proven winner? My "tenure" wouldn't be long but Id have winning records. Teach kids to win! Everybody doesnt get to play the same, not everyone should get a trophy . Not everyone DESERVES one. Cmon, def doubt successful basketballJunky, sounds more like Socialismjunky or confusedjunky, Instead your location should say traveling ohio looking for like minded, misguided fellows looking to become average at others expense. Note: I didnt say clear out the whole time but in this circumstance it was a winning strategic tool.

I don't think anyone outside of that league thought they would beat Moeller in the rematch. Wilmington is a good team but hard to win state when you don't have any height

I can't speak for all of the programs you listed (I certainly do agree on a few of them) but I do want to point out that PV has been a pretty awful basketball program outside of the times when a Shoemaker has been at the helm. They hit a place where they had 4 competent players for 2 years and they will drop again soon, but that's not going to be a coaching issue, IMO, that's going to be a closing issue. Students are leaving the school big time and wrestling is hurting them when it comes to numbers.

Here's a snapshot of the PV basketball program: 2 SVC Championships in 50 years (1964/1993) and only 1 District Title (1962)

I do feel like Huntington will be better in the next couple of years.

Paint Valley did have an awful lot of talent this year... looking back it's kind of strange they pushed so hard for the 2 seed and not the 3 seed? they had already beaten Peebles and Trimble was a very tough matchup for them.

I do agree that the future is very bright for Huntington, as well as Eastern Brown and South Webster. All 3 have solid young kids coming and also played several underclassmen this year as well.

The funny part bout posts like this though is once those teams start winning, ppl want to give all credit to the kids. If a team is losing, they want to give all blame to coaches lol.. funny how that works out

The only issue for PV was the lack of a 5th player or any real bench. If the Medley kid hadn't turned it on a little bit at the end of the season, then they would have averaged less than 2 ppg outside of their talented top 4.

I do love that coaches never have a real impact on winning, but are the main cause for losing, lol. That same argument was made against Warren's very good coach for losing to an obviously more talented team in another thread, which is ludicrous.

I agree, that is absurd. Maddox is one of the best coaches in ALL of SE Ohio. The problem with forums will always be that everyone gets a voice ------> even the ones who don't have a clue about the game of basketball.

With Warren people use no logic, Warren only had to beat one good team to get to state, Athens in 2013.That year our sectional got two teams in the region with no columbus teams. 2008 Chillicothe and 2013 Warren had an easy path to state. 2007 Chillicothe lost to Desales, 2008 Desales had to stay in Columbus. In the past 15 years no D2 SEO district teams have made state when they are lined up with Columbus. I'm guessing it's been a long time. You need good coaching, talent, and luck to make state

I agree with Dani on the PV/ Shoemaker he appears to adapted his game somewhat, but my point was about coaches that restric players talents and abilities because the do not align with coaches knowledge or stategies. As far as PV next year there r no supreme passers or ball handlers under pressure that can get the ball inside with precision, the 78% shooting Miracle at Peebles was that the coach out there shooting ...hmmmm, I still feel PV has some major Hurdles to overcome....But it has nothing to do with their coach, Maybe he can bring it back from the grave. As stop the BS about BOO Hoo its not the coaches fault you all sound like hilljacks, like saying the crash is not the drunk drivers fault, its the car that was bad! , thats rarely the case. Notice I didnt say never the case. Of all the teams listed I am pulling for PV. The rest who knows, dont really care.

The last shot of the Wilmington game was partially blocked, not an airball.

You wouldn't last the first five games out. You're one of the grandstand coaches who think they know how to coach. They don't. And YOU don't.

I meant the upcoming seasons for PV with Shoemaker. They're long overdue, I hope they do well if they can get some help or kids to dedicate themselves this offseason. We all knew your stance stumble since on every one of your posts regarding coaching your kissing their butts and throwing every youth athletes parents under the bus whether they are great coaches or poor. You usually go on to talk about the Strong programs of Eastern (Exchange student express)Brown and the awesome programs of Latham. Ill give u Greenfield, he was a very good coach. Those are far and few between. Im sorry the reality bothers you, but if coaches agree to the job, the taxpayers of the district own you and yes they COULD be crazy. The coaches answer to the principals, AD they answer to the Super, he or she to the board and yes... they answer to the community. Even the community you insulted in an earlier post, Bainbridge. Who cares if they stuck around for them to get medals. I always did so the kids would not want to lose again even more. Its a dreadful feeling watching someone receive something that you desperately wanted. I do not agree that a single set of parents or group should run the show. There are several programs that have fallen victim to that. Still feel Wilmington could have won, they didn't.
