Minford wins at home vs Waverly 78-54. Looked a little flat in first half and led by 1. Seemed a little more energetic in 2nd half and pulled away. Pretty balanced scoring with Rowe with 17, Kelly and Guillion with 14 and Shepherd with 12.

I didn't see flat; I saw lack of teamwork in first half; too many quick shots with no pass or one pass. Several missed dump downs on back side and forced shots. They almost shot themselves out of the game and gave a physical and patient Waverly team the momentum. Finally went inside in second half and it produced multiple fouls on Waverly bigs. Toward the end of the game Waverly probably didn't have a guy over 6'2" on the floor. Do this in the first half and it's over then (plus you get better perimeter shots). Hats off to Waverly for their intensity, conditioning and patience on offense. Very nice continuity offense. Good adjustments at the half to finally utilize the post more. Paid off by getting in bonus early and some unselfish play and passing in the interior. Good switch to the match up zone; just thought we stretched it up top sometimes and got burned with easy entries to foul line and some poor rotations once the bigs had to come up to cover. But, still early. This team could be very good if everyone commits to playing defense!! And commits to getting the best shot as they did in second half. Tigers are gonna be a handful if they can get more consistent post play.

Good post oldschool. I can see #25 for Waverly starting next game as he showed a lot of poise for just being a freshman as a parent behind me quoted. Has anyone heard anything about the Miller boy , for Minford, who hit the floor hard and never returned. This kid has turned his game 180 degrees from last year. Can see him getting 20 before the season is over.

Thanks bluedude62; just callin it how I saw it and you're right that boy did a nice job! And probably will grow some over next couple of years but skill set is most important. That team should run anytime they can; they've already got a good half court game and good patience. Point guard is one of the headiest players in the conference as well. I think they're doing a great job up there as a coaching staff and their teams compete! They competed until the end after the game was out of reach and that speaks volumes to their staff! Good luck to both teams this year and beyond. Gonna be fun to watch them both the next couple of yearsbluedude62 wrote:Good post oldschool.
