I agree and they have some pretty good players on the team. I think that they may have been counted out to soon.

I might add that there is height on our team and that will be an asset

Chad was already hurt with a shoulder injury.. but there is still Andrew Saunders, Caleb Heffner Nate Smith, Aaron Thompson, Brad Meadows and Austin Carpenter that will be good players. Chad will be greatly missed

The previews are @ South Point this year. I think the boys are on Friday the 22nd. If they are the same as football then South Point will play Coal Grove in the last game. (this matchup may be wrong)

Fairland will be tough this year only losing two players from last year. Peake will be big but with meadows out that will hurt them badly. South point could be the real deal if the big man is good as everyone says. Coal grove will be good also with markins leading the way.

... going to get to see the 'peake play a few times this season! at the Coach Young Classic Nov 30th, then vs my Logan Chieftains at the Rio Grande get-together on Dec 14th, and then in the Beasts of the Southeast Jan 11th down on the river in Chesapeake ... should be able to see the growth of Coach Davis' TEAM over that stretch for sure ... I have been a fan of Coach Speed and his defensive minded Fairland Dragons as well - Coach Speed does it right teaching the fundamentally sound defense I enjoy watching, takes advantage of the quicks he has on the perimeter, always a team to enjoy watching from the cheap seats ...

From what I witnessed tonight at the previews South Point should do very well this year...They have size, quickness, handle the ball very well, and a deep bench...My prediction for the OVC.....In this order... 1. South Point 2. Fairland 3. Coal Grove 4. Chesapeake 5. Rock Hill 6. River Valley

I agree with those top 4 and I wouldn't be surprised at any of them winning the conference.

South Point does have a little bit of everything, but we'll see if they have the discipline and the "team" philosphy to maximize their talent. They seemed to last night. Much less of a one man show against the Dragons. And Beefy can sure clear a room! We'll see if it all meshes once the lights get brighter in December.

Fairland has NO size, but quickness and defense they do have. They should probably hire a security guard for Chance Short because it will be tough for Fairland if he is not on the floor. Other than Short and Maddox, not a whole lot of true offensive threats. But defense can be the equalizer. I had assumed they were the preseason favorite before last night...but don't believe there is a clear cut favorite now.

Coal Grove is in the conversation for the first time in a long while. While they did light up the scoreboard on an obviously overmatched RV squad, I was impressed with their outside shooting. They certainly will be in the picture. It would have been nice to see them in a more competitive match to see what their potential really is.

Peake? With 4 new starters, they haven't quite come together just yet. Davis didn't want to show much last night, and the Panthers were certainly successful at that...although the ability to make baskets at the rim would've had the Panthers winning easily. They do have size but not at the guard positions. This team will have to take advantage of matchups on a game by game basis. Their best shooting team is small, their best inside team isn't the strongest defensively. We'll see if Davis and the Panthers can figure out the best combinations to keep the OVC championsips flowing through Chesapeake.

Whoever wins it this year, they are going to have to battle all the way to February. No undefeated conference champ this year! Some exciting games are in store throughout the league.

Go Peake!

There's also a good spell check that you may not have utilized. It may come in handy late in the season!

OVC Standings through 12/15/2013

Fairland 2-0 (wins over SP and @ River Valley)
Chesapeake 1-1 (Won at CG, lost @ SP)
Coal Grove 1-1 (home loss to Ches, won @RH)
South Point 1-1 (lost at fairland, home win over Ches)
River Valley 1-1 (home win vs. RH, home loss to Fairland)
Rock Hill 0-2 (road loss to RV, home loss vs. CG)

Doesn't appear to be any conference games on this week's slate.
