Made my first trip out to see the purple round ballers on Monday. Pfloyd is correct, the score flatters Logan a little bit.pfloyd wrote:Logan loses number 5 in a row tonight ... Logan 2-5 on the season ...
Logan 38
@ St Charles 51 final
...not as close as the final score indicates ... Fisher had 17 points ... Logan comes back to Jim's Gym to play a 5-4 Gallia Academy team which has won 5 in a row ...
St. Charles came out and shot the lights, getting some decent shots, but making buckets even with a hand in their face. The small court really hurt Logan as the length of St. Charles disrupted the offense. When you see Logan play in person, you realize that outside of Fisher, Logan is a pretty small basketball team. St. Charles had some big bodies and long arms and they took away a lot of good looks.
Fisher was very impressive on the offensive end of the floor. Showed a wide set of skills, especially in the third quarter. He knocked down a big 3 at the end of the first quarter to keep the Chiefs in the game. Logan survived the 2nd Q, and came out strong in the 3rd with Fisher doing scoring from the block, from 8-12 feet, and I think another deep ball. However, he got tangled up on the block late in the third, and when it looked like we might see a double "technical", coach wisely sat him down.
W/o the big man Logan was hard pressed to score.
Now, I do think Fisher gave away a little too much on the baseline defensively. I thought he could have positioned himself lower on the block to take away the baseline. Maybe they've had trouble with teams getting him into foul trouble this way, I don't know.
Logan played hard and fought back late. The quick guards forced some turnovers, but also got a little sloppy in transition. Overall, Logan's offense is run well enough, but the ball movement is not quick enough or sharp enough to play with teams "Above the Lancaster-Dixon" line. With LHS's small line-up, they have little margin for error so misplaced or mistimed passes result in bad looks, or worse, turnovers.
Fisher should keep Logan in a lot of games this year, and Cottrill/Cox/Little are nice guards without size. Nick Kost is just a nice ball player, can play a number of roles.
Hopefully I'll make it back out in a couple of weeks. Go Chiefs!
