Defensive Player(s) of the year?
Defensive Player(s) of the year?
Should leagues have defensive player(s) of the year? If so who would you nominate?
Re: Defensive Player(s) of the year?
For OVC either Van Horn from Fairland, Loveday of Gallia or Musick from Coal Grove.

SVC
Logan Swackhammer, Brandon Kennedy, Gabe Fisher from Unioto
Cruz Mcfadden from Paint Valley
Tritan Davidson from Zane Trace
Tanner Perdue, Blake Reader from Piketon
Reader has seriously taken nearly 20 charges on the year. Does a great job giving up his body for his team. Perdue, Swackhammer, Mcfadden, and Kennedy all have great and quick hands, while Davidson and Fisher are major rim protectors. Kennedy (2.9) and Swackhammer (4.2) combine for over 7 steals a game and then you throw in deflections and overall pressure and they can cause major issues for the opponents.
The Roderick Twins from Chillicothe both cause issues on the defensive end. Spohn from Jackson does a lot of really good things as well.
Van Horn and Loveday are outstanding as well. I thought the Bell Twins from Logan were very solid too, but that whole team can really get into you on D.

Carson Spohn of Jackson on this list somewhere
As for charges I bet Caleb Wallis has close to 30
Remington from Waverly is a great defender

I am biased but to me its Remington from Waverly. Great ball pressure, averaging over four steals a game. Quick as lightning. Only 5' 10 but excellent rebounder. Has guarded everyone from point guard to the 6"6 kids. Blevins from South Webster blocks a ton of shots as well.

The Chiefs get recognized for their ability to score, but all 7 of their regular players are also elite defenders.

Logan Maxfield - Athens Bulldogs, kid is averaging almost 4 steals a game, 15 charges on the season, diving for loose balls, and was probably leading the team in offensive rebounding till they moved him to the 2 guard spot. He has sent a spark through the Bulldogs thru this 6 game winning streak with his defensive hustle and plays. He has become an elite defender in my opinion.SEOSpec3 wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 11:57 pm Should leagues have defensive player(s) of the year? If so who would you nominate?

Re: Defensive Player(s) of the year?
To piggyback off of my late night post from early this morning about Unioto's defense. They play outstanding team defense all around and even though they are giving up slightly more PPG this season, it is because their pace of play is faster.
If you look back at the last 4 minutes of their 3 tightest wins of the season, they have completely locked down their opponents. All 3 of the players I mentioned are known for other parts of their games, but I really wanted to point out just how much they put into the defensive side of the ball as well.

Agreed with all, well the stat one I can't verify, but I have seen him take at least one a game from what I've seen.Ironman92 wrote: Thu Feb 08, 2018 6:08 am Carson Spohn of Jackson on this list somewhere

Remington is all over the court, fun to watch.
Spohn does so many little things on the defensive side that makes him a tremendous defender.

Good List "Dani" Take any of the five and you would have a winner . I have seen most and you are correct . I really enjoy good defensive players . They are special . Look at the ones mentioned and you will find teams with very good records .Unioto, Logan , Zane Trace, Chillicothe, Piketon , Fairlanddanicalifornia wrote: Thu Feb 08, 2018 2:13 am SVC

It would be nice to see leagues step up and throw DPOY award in there. Would also like to see a 6th man award

Re: Defensive Player(s) of the year?
For only 6-2, Daniel Jordan of Portsmouth has quite often been opposed by someone taller than him, yet he leads the team in blocked shots and charges taken.
Re: Defensive Player(s) of the year?
Can’t forget bailey Bartoe coach combs puts him in when he needs a defensive stop and 8/10 times he gets it
You can’t spell TVC without VC
