One word to sum up ZT....ATHLETIC. I have seen them twice (many on here have seen them many more). Not much of a bench if i remember but 1-5 are athletic. Evans is the real deal. will get in the paint and score at will.
Long, with a really good scoring guard. A couple of nice shooters on the outside and a really solid big who can score on the inside pretty well.

They’ve faced some outstanding competition all year long, so they are battle tested, however they have had a couple of clunkers as well. So, consistency is an issue for them.
Clunkers? 20-4 with losses to Hilliard Davidson, Gahanna Lincoln, and Johnstown Monroe and at Greenfield by a point in OT. I think 15 or 16 of their wins have been by double digits not counting 1 point win at Ironton, 2 pt win at piketon , 3 pt win vs LE after being up by 12-15 points.?

I believe danicalifornia was talking about FU having clunkers.

He was talking about Fairfield Union.
Losses to Unioto, Logan Elm (scored 30 points) and Bloom early.
Nice wins over Teays Valley, Sheridan and Columbus Academy.

Fairfield Union more recently tournament tested than Zane Trace, even if that means anything. Both very well coached. Could and should be a very good ballgame.

I like FU in this one and I think it will be very low scoring. Both teams looked very good in their last game. The one advantage I like with FU is Joe Goodyear on the bench. He is a master at taking away a teams best player or two and grinding out games. I don't think he will slow Cam all the way down but I look for him to figure a way to change the flow of ZT game plan. Good luck to both teams. FU 49-38.

That 1970 Zane Trace team was coached by Ron Hall, who later went on to lead Miami Trace to the 1978 Class AAA semifinals. MT lost to eventual state champion Kettering Alter in the semifinals.

That 1970 team featured Jeff Reisinger, who went to star at Clemson. The Pioneers finished 26-1.

That 1970 team also had Chip Maxwell. 1st Round Draft Pick (14th Overall) in the MLB draft by the Washington Senators. Hall also coached the baseball team. Both teams went to the State Tournament in Class A in 1970.

Ron Hall was a great coach and also coached over here in Frankfort in the 70’s. Coach Kellough was his assistant here and at Miami Trace when they coached that team to the state tournament. The 1970 ZT team is probably the best Ross County team ever besides the 2008 Chillicothe Cavaliers. Hard to argue with a State Champion with the resume the Cavs had that year. I would still take that 1970team against any other SVC team ever. Good history lesson but this game is between 2019 ZT & Fairfield Union. Both of these teams deserve to be talked about because they are the ones about ready to battle for a district championship.

I wonder why Hall didn’t coach longer. He had great success everywhere he went

Ron was a perfectionist. I believe he only had 100-200plus wins in his career. He couldn’t stand mediocrity and I don’t think he could mentally take it. He had a lot of talent during that time as well.. The ZT, Adena and Miami Trace teams were loaded.

Funny story about Joe Goodyear.I have known Tom Petty (legendary Bloom Carroll coach) for what seems like an eternity. I play golf from time to time at Pine Hill where he works. Back when BC had some incredible teams with Isaac McGlone and another shooter named Schmitz I took my dad to a few games. After about the third game my dad and I were driving home and he says “Coach Petty sure is young to have that many wins”! Coach Goodyear was so active and in control on that sideline my dad thought he was Coach Petty for multiple games! Those guys were an amazing duo who’s teams were an absolute pleasure to watch. I thought for sure Bloom Carroll would try to get him back from Circleville when Coach Petty retired.

I like Zane Trace in this matchup. I think Evans is the X-Factor. I think he is very good at applying ball pressure which usually causes problems for other teams. FU is very good and well coached but I just have a feeling ZT is going to rise to the occasion.

PREVIEW: Zane Trace to face Fairfield Union while chasing first D-II district title in 49 years

Derrick Webb, Staff Writer

KINNIKINNICK — Don’t worry about the last play, worry about the next play.

It’s a simple piece of advice that Zane Trace has invested in this season. That investment is now paying its dividends as the Pioneers get set to face Fairfield Union in a Division II district final.

The last time Zane Trace had the chance to play for a district championship was back in 2013. But to find the last time the Pioneers actually won a district title, you’d have to go back to 1970.
