Yeah because Trimble has always been a basketball school.Leave No Doubt wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 11:18 amIt's a lot easier to coach when you have more talent than the teams you face and we all know Howdy chases the talent, soooo....

Maddox and Caldwell hands down the best that seo has seen for a long time if not ever both teach more than basketball they take young kids and turn them into young men
Re: Best Coach in SEO
Let me introduce you to a guy named Norm Persin who is 3rd in the state all-time in wins.
P.S., he's still coaching in SEO.
Watching SE Ohio basketball
Re: Best Coach in SEO
Just wondering, I know he does not coach anymore but how many wins did coach Oz have at Gallia?
Re: Best Coach in SEO
know norm pretty well he is also a good coach but I will still take the other two as being the best

Re: Best Coach in SEO
I know this topic is about current coaches in the SE district, but in 1945 the Portsmouth Trojans' head coach was Paul Walker, who went 12-11 that year and was not retained by the Portsmouth administration. Walker then went to Middletown and led the Middies to big school state titles in 1947, 1952, 1953, 1956, and 1957. He won a total of 695 games, and at the time of his retirement was the winningest coach in Ohio history. The Trojans did beat Walker's Middies for Greater Ohio League titles in 1955 and 1961.
The one that got away at Portsmouth!!
All the coaches that have ever coached at Portsmouth HS have compiled a total of 15 state championships and 40 state appearances.....probably a record for any school in Ohio.

Thanks! That was an awesome game.On our last second shot Chuck Johnson was supposed to shoot, but; pass was deflected to Randy Hilterbran who got the shot off. It rolled around the rim twice before falling off the rim. Game over. The next year we made it to the Regional finals, losing to IVS in a nail biter.

Three of the better coaches in my opinion are Josh Arey (Peebles), Matt Hoops (Unioto) and Matt Combs (Vinton Co.). I believe in another 10-12 years we will be referring to them like we do Coach Caldwell & Coach Osborne.
Re: Best Coach in SEO
Hoopie74, just think that was when there was only 3 divisions. They lost to Strasburg in the regional semis.

I have to agree with a lot of the previous post. I’m going to sound biased here by giving a shout out to Coach Vanderhoof and company from Coal Grove. I know it’s going to be an interesting year for them with the graduation of Music. The freshmen who are now sophomores had a great season last year winning all their contest but one.

Coach Vanderhoof is outstanding ... he will have CG playing well by mid-season and beyond ... TEAMS who lose a player like Music & McKenzie will be looking to fill the roles those players held in the lineup - not an easy task as Music could do so much at both ends/Mckenzie scored the ball and played great D as well ... Cory Borders/Evan Gannon/Payton Smith will need to LEAD at both ends using their collective varsity experience to bring the youngster along ... Coach Vanderhoff will get it done - he's a good one !RollCoal wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 11:06 am I have to agree with a lot of the previous post. I won’t be referring Hoops to Osborne in 10 years. Combs is a good comparison.ItsMyOpinion wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 7:01 am Three of the better coaches in my opinion are Josh Arey (Peebles), Matt Hoops (Unioto) and Matt Combs (Vinton Co.).
