Very true, just based off of a newspaper article, but has not been made official

How many winning seasons has Wellston's girls' coach had? And how many years has he been there?

He’s been there 10 seasons. His first year he was hired mid season. My daughter was on the team that year as a freshman. He has 6 10 plus win seasons. Broken school records for most wins in a season 3 different times and has won the only school sectional championship and played in districts. Sounds like your a butt hurt parent from 2 years ago.

By the way our girls program only averaged 3 wins a year in school history prior to him taking over.

Coach Sturgill just completed his 11th season. The 13-win season is the most wins in a single season in school history. The sectional title in 2014 was the first in school history along with district runner-up that year. The next year, returning all-Ohioan Lexi Humphreys suffered a knee injury and was out injured. Then I believe Lexi Hopkins, its other all-Ohioan, got hurt during the year. Jordan Davis, during the 2011-12 season I believe it was, shared league MVP honors - a first in school history. Sydney Mullins became the first 1000-point scorer in program history. A LOT of improvement in Lady Rocket land under Coach Sturgill that wasn't there before. They've endured injuries in certain seasons that impacted the records. Most importantly, the girls program at Wellston has finally enjoyed some coaching stability and NOT changing every other season like other sports.

Isn't this a boys basketball thread? Conversations about a girls coach just seems out of place.

It's not that big of a deal. We are talking about coaching vacancies....

Wellston is a dumpster fire-had a lot of talent the last few years--most left and went to Jackson or Vinton County---school board has no idea on getting a good program started--have no buddy league to speak of in basketball---a few years ago--they had to combine the boys 4th, 5th and 6th grade just to have enough for 3 teams--they played each other twice. So sad!!!!

Northwest job is open. With a good upcoming freshmen group, this could be appealing to some coaches

Just seems like that would be on the girls forum, I mean that is why there is 2 separate forums I would assume.

And since this is technically a "vacancy" thread, talking about jobs that aren't open would seem inappropriate. Bashing coaches is something I think you would want to avoid.

That's the whole key in this discussion, we talk all the time about not talking about a coaching change until it is a well known fact that the job will be open, and then we turn around and do just what we said that we shouldn't be doing. I think that a lot of the time, we only look at the positive side of the ledger as far as win's and losses are concerned when evaluating what kind of a job that the coach is doing. There are a lot of coaches, boys and girls who coach for years, and are very good coaches, yet struggle there whole career in trying to win as many games as they lose. At times you may know the X's and O's of the game as well or better than most, but if a little talent is not there, it still won't matter in the end.

And it probably shouldn't even be discussed because it's not vacant.
