He will have a late start due to football playoffs which will make him a much tough kid physically for basketballOVCFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 9:23 am How does the league shape up for next season? Who loses what and who is returning for each team next Season?
OVC Record in parenthesis **If I have any records wrong, I do apologize**
I will start with our Hustlin' Hornets
Fairland - (11-3)
South Point - (10-4)
Ironton - (8-6)
Chesapeake - (8-6)
Gallia - (7-6)
Portsmouth - (5-9)
Coal Grove - (3-11) The Hornets lose seniors Trevor Hankins 10-PPG and Perry Kingery; They return arguably the best freshmen in the OVC/Area in Owen Johnson (16-PPG) as well as JR. PG-Dryzen Mullens, Jr. 6'4" Forward-Hunter Staton, Jr. Elijah Dillon, Jr. Braxton Horn, Gavin Gipson. Jr. Landon Davis They also will be bringing up a very talented group of current 8th graders... Coal Grove will be a better team next season and will improve their OVC Record next season (3-11 OVC 2021-22)
Rock Hill - (2-11)

Well I ,along with many I talk to, think Gallia could easily win the conference. They’ve got the talent and size for sure.
Re: OVC 2022-23
I haven't met a single person nor seen a single post saying Gallia will be bad -- below average.
So I have no clue who the "people" you're referencing are.

Right. Some people always have to play the underdog
Gallia will be one of the favorites in the OVC and in D2
Re: OVC 2022-23
why wouldn’t most people think they will be good? largest school in the league by a wide margin. Have a very nice facility. I think Gallia should be favorite to win conference in most years. When was the last time Gallia won a conference title in baskets? Maybe this is their year.
Re: OVC 2022-23
Portsmouth has not been world beaters for a while and has not lost to gallia for a couple years ,who does gallia have besides bigun?

Re: OVC 2022-23
Portsmouth has most of its roster back from last season, and here's how they fared in 2021-22 vs. the rest of the OVC:
1.Gallia.......swept the blue Devils
2. Ironton....lost both, one on a buzzer beater
3. South Point.....split regular season, winning at SP by 20
4. Coal Grove......swept the Hornets
5. Fairland.........lost both, one in OT
6. Rock Hill........split, winning at RH
7. Chesapeake....lost both, by 3 at home
I think the Trojans could contend for the title based on being very competitive last season with most of the team back in 2022-23. PHS went 2-5 at home in conference play last season, 4-3 on the road. Final OVC record: 6-8.

Not only does Gallia have Isaac Clary back (6-7,270?), but also return the PG Franklin (6-3).

I really like the Trojan team, tons of offensive weapons it’s the D that looks questionable at times. Get that D down and they will be dangerous.trojandave wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:05 pm Not only does Gallia have Isaac Clary back (6-7,270?), but also return the PG Franklin (6-3).

I hope all the OVC teams put up a fight every night. It makes our conference strong come tournament time. Chesapeake will upset plenty of teams this year I’m sure.
Re: OVC 2022-23
Looks like it going to be a tight race not in order with fairland, Gallia, Portsmouth and Ironton ???

Re: OVC 2022-23
If Portsmouth is truly going to be a contender, we have to do better at home. 2-5 last season, and a repeat of that will doom any chances of vying for the OVC title.
