Statement Games for Friday 1/19 ...

Post by pfloyd »

Hillsboro @ Miami Trace ... Hillsboro plays tonight @ Piketon , enters with a 4 game losing streak, with the last outing being a 2OT loss at home to Jackson ... the 'boro lost in early December to Miami Trace but was on the road to a 6-1 start to the season ... Hillsboro NEEDS this one for their own psyche going forward ...MT started the season 0-2 then ran off 8 straight W's before losing to Circleville at MT ... on a 3-0 win streak entering this one Friday night ...

Vinton County @ Meigs ... the Marauders need this one to show they can play with the big boys in SEO hoops ... Mother Nature took away the Belpre game Tuesday night ... Meigs has VC Friday, Nelsonville York, Trimble, Marietta, Jackson, and a 2nd meeting with Belpre as BIG games in the offering coming up ... a win over VC, Marietta, or Jackson would allow MHS to show they deserve to be considered as a team in the top 20 in SEO ... right now Meigs is ranked above NY, Trimble , Belpre wins vs these teams are expected - losses hurt the Marauder slow climb up the rankings - would be the one step forward, 2 steps back situation ... looking forward to seeing the game at Meigs Friday night !

Portsmouth vs Fairland ... PHS under Coach Lisath reeled off 6 straight wins before dropping back to back games to Wheelersburg and Chesapeake followed by a BIG 30 point dub over Ironton , backed up by an 83-49 loss at home to South Point ... Jekyll and Hyde performances that make it hard to forecast which Trojan team will show up from game to game ... the Fairland Dragons of Coach Speed had the PHS number for 16 straight wins before Portsmouth beat the Dragons last season on the road to snap the losing streak ... in the loaded OVC every game is like gold ... home games in particular as you have to hold serve at home and steal W's on the road ... Portsmouth will look to get a home win while Fairland is hoping to leave P'town with a "steal" of a win on the road ...

Tri Valley vs New Lexington ... the Panthers need a signature win ... 12-2 is a solid resume of wins but strength of schedule is iffy for NL as they lost to John Glen, Big Walnut both teams with winning records while the sole signature win for NL is at a 9-3 Coshocton team early in the season ... Tri Valley would be THAT needed big win ... TV at 10-2 comes off of a big statement win over the OCC's Upper Arlington ... we'll watch the results of this one Friday night for sure ...

other big games Friday night include:

South Point vs Ironton
South Webster vs Portsmouth West
Marietta vs Point Pleasant (Thursday 1/19)

Zane Trace at Westfall could be interesting if Jarrell is still out for the Pioneers. Westfall is very tough at home and matches up well with ZT if Jarrell is out.

North Adams at Eastern Brown is a big one in the SHAC. If EB has any hope at all of getting a share of the SHAC I title, they’ll have to protect their home court and hope Fairfield beats NA next Friday. I think this will show how well the Warriors can bounce back after a heartbreaking loss last night.
