Waterford 55 Southern 48 sectional final (Warren)

Post by pfloyd »

Waterford 55
Southern 48 a final

... the D4 sectional between what was the nightcap game at the Warren Sectional with the winner getting an invite to the Convo to take on Federal Hocking on Saturday night @ 8:45pm ... as in most of the D4 games this one was highlighted by the up and down games, quick pace of the action on the court by both teams ... lots of 3 balls launched with Waterford going 6/18 and Southern 5/22 on the night ... the game was close throughout as Southern won the opening 2 quarters leading 19-18 at the intermission losing the final 2 quarters 29-37 ... with the quarter breaks:

Southern ... 9....19....34....48
Waterford...8....18....39....55

... I was most impressed by Waterford having the lead with 5:30 & change in the 4th leading 41-37 ... the Wildcats held the ball for over 2 minutes without a shot, without turning it over - excellent spacing, player and ball movement - impressive at the high school level as Waterford effectively shortened the game ... at 2:40 on the clock both teams had added a 2 pter the score stood at 43-39 Waterford ... at 1:17 Waterford 47-41 ... the Wildcats always with answer to any Southern bucket ... hitting 14 of 16 FTs down the stretch to outdistance the Tornadoes 55-48 a final ...
