It shouldn't be long before the new coach is named because Sept.1 begins the "open period" again, when you can have open gym. August is a "dead period", when coaches "are not supposed to" have open gyms or personal instruction.

Naming a coach and staff is important so that the program can take full advantage of the open period. PHS is already behind as it is due to the filibustering that went on way too long. School has started, and PHS still doesn't have a boys basketball coach. It's not supposed to work that way.

I would say that Aaron Smith has the inside track to the job, since he has served the last few years as a varsity assistant and JV coach. Would be very surprised if the new coach is somebody other than Aaron. I think he deserves the job.

I have started a new thread "Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25" since the new school year has now started.
