Re: The Passing of Larry Legend
... I only had the pleasure to meet, speak to Coach Jordan once late in his coaching career... he definitely lived up to his Larry legend moniker with over 600 wins in his courtside career at Southeastern, Waverly, Jackson ... he mentored many from his coaching pulpit , all having grown as individuals, young men and players ... his presence courtside will be remembered and revered by all of us who have followed high school hoops in SEOhio ... I send by condolences, thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and the Southeastern school community - pfloyd

LEGEND! Just like every legend that passes we immediately wish we could have spent more time gaining knowledge from them. There are a lot of people who knew him better than I, but in honor of Coach I though I would share my personal connection with him. I had the honor of playing against his SE teams late in his career when I was young. In hindsight, I had an immense amount of respect for him (My grandfather, Heckie Thompson, was my hero growing up and I never actually got to talk basketball with him as he passed when I was 2 years of age, so I think it was engrained in me to really respect great coaches) as a player. Both times I played against him at Eastern he sought me out after the game to shake my hand. At the time it was lost on me why, but it made me respect him more. Later in life I found out maybe why he did this. He considered my grandfather to be a mentor of his. My first three years at Western I coached alongside his son Mike. I messaged Mike when I found out he passed and sent him my condolences. Mike sent me a story that will sum up the connection that Coach Jordan and Coach Thompson had. I had heard this story before, but I will use Mike's quotes and let him tell the story. "Your grandpa was Dad's coaching mentor. As a kid we would go to his golf course in the summer. They played golf and talked basketball. I wish I would have been older to remember more of it. Your grandpa's last game was in the tournament against Dad. It was the only time I saw Dad upset after a tournament win. That bothered him for a long time." Thanks Mike for the story and RIP Coach Jordan.
I also had the honor of coaching his Grandson Broc Jordan and Broc's brother Huc has been our ball boy for the last 3 years and is a future Indian.

A true legend and a giant of the coaching profession.
Obviously, a great coach because of how many wins he put forth, but also in how he treated others.
Coach Jordan will be greatly missed.
