Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25
Cruise: What do you think you're right about? I really don't understand your point in claiming that you're right.
We've gained at least a half dozen kids over the course of the summer, so despite the perception that TrojanWorld is going to collapse into the abyss, it's not happening. Most likely 3 of the transfers will be in the varsity starting lineup.
From what I heard yesterday, the finish line to name the new coach is very close, could be this week.

Why stay at a place that no one makes your future a priority? Send a message and leave Portsmouth City Schools. We Are 1, doesn’t sound like the AD and Board think so.
TrojanDave it’s been 17 days since I posted this. Tell me I’m wrong.
I will tell you.
YOU ARE WRONG .
So you are one of them peoples that would tell a kid to be a quitter? Trying to give a board a deadline is laughable do you know how many coaches applied? It takes time to interview multiple coaches, maybe the ad and board does have the kids future at a priority and not jumping on a coach right away " by the end of the week'
Kids ain't going anywhere, most are on the football team and most of not all are eligible to transfer again,so pipe down Daddio and stop being a hater of PCS!!
Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25
Don't think anyone is sayin anything about the kids involved... it's the adults. And anyone making excuses for them... those are the people who are wrong... it's nearly october...

Glad they have finally named a coach. Hopefully they can release a full schedule soon.
Aaron was put in a difficult situation this summer and he handled it as well as he could. Go Trojans!

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25
Congratulations to Aaron Smith in being named the HC of the Portsmouth Trojans.
Aaron is the 30th head coach in the history of PHS, with 21 of the first 29 having winning records to their name. Aaron is the son of PHS alum and former HC Tom Smith, who coached the Trojans from 1982-1987 with a sterling record of 108-35, winning 3 district titles (1982, 1983, 1987). Tom Smith's winning pct. is the 2nd highest in PHS history, topped only by Joe Suboticki's 94-11 from 1988-1991.
Aaron played basketball for the Trojans in the early 2000's, and played on a Trojan team that upset favored South Point in the 2004 sectional championship and Albany Alexander in the district tournament.
The new Coach Smith will have a talented roster to work with, with some veterans returning along with some transfers that should make a profound impact on the success of his maiden season.
No official word yet on who will fill out his staff. Best wishes to Aaron as he begins his career with the winningest and most decorated program all time in the SE district.

Congratulations to Coach Aaron Smith! I know he bleeds red and blue and has the ability to be a successful coach. He has learned from some very talented minds like his father, coach Collins, coach Lisath and did he play for Rick Hopkins in the early 2000s?
Time to get to work. I am glad this transition is behind the players, families, the new coach and all involved.
Let's go Trojans!

IF Aaron was going to be named coach-which he was since Jeff resigned-they should’ve done this MUCH sooner for continuity and to kill all the fodder that’s littered this site.
Good Luck Aaron

Wipala: Tanner Dutey will coach the JV team, and probably will serve as varsity assistant as well. Tanner has a good rapport with kids. Eugene Collins will be back to help out as an assistant/consultant, while Kyle Copley will serve in a similar capacity. Good to have Kyle, who is a PHS grad, back with the Trojans, and of course Eugene, who can offer a lot of basketball wisdom to Aaron.
Not sure if we're going to have a freshmen team; if not, then the participating freshmen will be elevated to the JV squad. Numbers are down for the freshmen class. The 8th grade team, though, is the preseason favorite to win the OVC and have a great opportunity to go undefeated. The 8th group is the best class of hoopers to come along in quite a while. Players to watch on that team will be Joe Greene, Ryan Monroe, Mekhi Berry, Chase Clark, and Manny Thomas. In 2 years, combine this group with the juniors currently on the varsity and the Trojans will be loaded. Last year this group as 7th graders lost only 2 games to 8th grade teams......coaches Joe Greene and Kevin Monroe wanted them to play up and get experience playing against older kids.
I don't think the 7th grade is going to be that strong from what I'm hearing, but the 6th grade is another really good class.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25
What happened to the tougher schedule that was set before the 2024 Lisath debacle? I thought everyone was in favor of a tougher non conference schedule so why are we ducking smoke and trying to dumb down the schedule now?
I know I’m only one man, I don’t know about you all, but I’ll be a little disappointed and slightly embarrassed if after removing Ashland, our tougher schedule has East Tartans, Northwest Mohawks and Valley Indians listed.
