... great stuff bball..guru ! you did in one post what will make you a "go to"/must read on the SEOPs basketball forum ... which Eastern was there? Eastern Brown/Eastern Pike or Eastern Reedsville? too bad this scrimmage/shootout was not advertised - sounds like it would have been an outstanding event to attend ...bball..guru wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:23 am The root had a super scrimmage yesterday and it was fantastic. The facilities at the root are top notch. Teams that were in attendance were Gallia, Point, South Gallia, Eastern, Southern and Western. It was competitive all the way around.
Western maybe the best team in the SOC. They play fast and aggressive. They have two players that can score at any time. They are going to be a tough out for anyone. Them in Symmes Valley will be battling it out for the conference.
Southern is very good. They have a bunch of shooters. All 5 attacks the glass. Size maybe a factor for them. They struggle boarding but make up for it on the defensive end. Southern is the front runner this year to win the TVC.
Gallipolis is also talented. The mock kid is the real deal. He can do it all. All teams struggled guarding him. They also have a solid point guard that attacks well. They will be a mid-pack team in the OVC.
Eastern has a lot of size. They have two guards that can score at a high level. They attack the glass and board well. I like Eastern this year competing to win the conference.
South Gallia is very aggressive. South Gallia might be the most physical team I've seen in a while. Hard nose team that gets after it. They will be on everyone radar this year. They are going to surprise teams in the SOC.
Point Pleasant will be okay. With their schedule they could win double digit wins this year.

Your information, solidifies what I thought about each of these teams .. Western with Haggy/Janes scoring along with Cutter Clay/Owens/Foster/Satterfield/Foreign exchange player/Kerns ...without a lot of size the Indians will make every game a 94' game for 32 minutes bring your track shoes and hide your wallets as WHS will pressure you everywhere ... Southern- exactly what I saw at the Warren shootout this past summer - not big BUT everyone was athletic, good shooters forcing you to guard everyone on the floor ... they won the Warren Shootout ... Gallia Academy - Cade Mock I've picked for a breakout season size at 6-7 , length, motor, a little bit of attitude (in a good way, as he is physical!) rebounds, scores in the paint, had an excellent summer developing a perimeter game scoring the 3 ball - I think he will be outstanding this season for Coach Harrison's Blue Devils ... glad to hear about the PG - I don't know if you are talking about this incoming freshman PG Ty Reed or a player who has already in the upper grades (Alex Blair) ... I'll catch GAHS a couple times in the opening full week as they take on Warren and Meigs ... Eastern - Brown?Pike? or Meigs? LOL - Eastern Brown is an Elite 8 team , Eastern Pike - Coach Leist's Eagles seem to attack the rim from the perimeter with the 3 ball Cade Leist /Tucker Leist/ Aiden Werner come to mind ; Eastern Meigs - ?????? South Gallia - your info helps when we start putting names with bodies as the season starts ... Point Pleasant - in the Twin State League with Fort Frye/Warren/Marietta ... I'll see them a couple of times when they take on Warren ...bball..guru wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:23 am The root had a super scrimmage yesterday and it was fantastic. Eastern Lloyd and Barnes are players. They’ve been two year starter guys that been relied on. They have a 6’4 big that can finish around the rim.
South Gallia don’t know names. There coach does a good job with them and the kids battle. It was so physical with there style of play. Reminded me of old school ball

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio-Preseason 2024-25
Alright , you saw Eastern Rdsville (Meigs) - Colton Lloyd and Derrick Barnes both jrs. this year ... 6-4 big might be Gavin Murphy (sr) SEOhio size with length ... I like it! gives me more reason to see some of the smaller schools - Eastern Rdsville/South Gallia/Southern fall into that category ... other small division teams that due to losses due to graduation that might not be totally in rebuilding years - Federal Hocking - returning Dillon Haynes at PG, 2 solid scorers in Cameron Joy (jr) and Mosiah Cottrill (jr) ... might not be deep but there's 3 good ballers right there to build on (and they are all juniors) ... Trimble will have some solid players from last year - Chase Patton (sr)/Brady Jajczyk (sop) will be very good this season ...bball..guru wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 6:50 pm Eastern Lloyd and Barnes are players. ... getting excited about hoops tip-off getting closer ... just watched (video) Western Pike vs Southern, Gallia Academy & Point Pleasant at the ROOT in Gallipolis ... watched (video) of Fairland vs Jackson, Minford at the Jackson scrimmage ...watched Warren @ Logan Elm scrimmage (video) ... got word that Fairland did well without Keegan Smith in today's scrimmage vs Miami Trace, Westfall beating MT 17-9/14-10/ 11-8 ... beating Westfall 17-3, tying Westfall 10-10 and losing with the 2nd group vs Westfall 6-11 ...
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio-Preseason 2024-25
Western will be solid I am sure. But watching them at the Root, it was so ugly at times. They are physical, and play hard but I really don't know how skilled they are. IDK how much better they are from last year. It seems like they are the same team. All the so called role players are just like Logan Lightle was last year. They wont win the league in my opinion, and will struggle against whoever they play in tournament.pfloyd wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 1:26 pmYour information, solidifies what I thought about each of these teams .. Just catching up with this! Looks great. Few questions and comments….
What division is Meigs?
7 divisions for basketball is going to make for more district championship games at the Convo, and that makes me happy!
Minford has 3 nice freshman athletes and you saw two of them in pictures. Colt Donahoe being one of them at 6’1 pushing 6’2 is the premier athlete of the freshman class for the falcons. The other freshman are 6’3 and 6’ I’d guess.
Curt Glenn and Ashton Reeder led the JV last year and look for both of them to contribute this season. I’d predict Glenn to be the 5th starter. At 6’2 and very athletic, he can play defense and knock down threes very similar to Crank/Rhodes of years past.
Lastly, eastern pike, Ironton and Burg still playing football. I’d say the best versions of those programs will not be seen until after the New Year. Best of luck this Friday!

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio-Preseason 2024-25
2024-25 Bigs Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line:
Let's take a look at the BIGS we have in the SE District for 2024-25 ... I suppose we need to define BIGS, as you travel the SE District a BIG Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line can be anyone who is from 6-0 to 6-7'ish I suppose ... in SEO you will find players such as Kam Janes for Western Pike who stand at MAYBE 6-0 BUT if you watch the young man play the game in the paint at both ends of the floor he holds his own with his quickness off the floor/reaction time/hops to go with his tenaciousness on the boards ... take it to the opposite end and you have a player like 6-5 Hayden Wells or 6-3 Chase Lupardus both playing in the paint for Warren - both are post players, both with the physicality of what we envision as a BIG man (at least a BIG man in SEO) ... Sooooooooooo we have a large "pool" of players who fall between the size parameters for SEO ... I'm going to try to throwout MY names for big men in the middle/players in the post... I'm going to get the list started, I've got a list of maybe 25 players in the 6-3 to 6-8 range that I've thought of, I don't know everyone out there! I didn't see ALL teams ! this is an informational thread to get information OUT and have information come in ( I want to learn more names of players I should be watching this coming season all across SEO) :
Carson Davis 6-8, jr. Meigs ... inside, outside game, he's learning to be physical, offensively has the game to knockdown 3's, he "ain't" afraid to shoot the 3 ball, wants to shoot the 3 ball, BUT he has good footwork, good hands and the real size of a 6-8, sturdy frame to hang with anyone in the paint at both ends ...
Eli Roberts 6-7, sr. South Webster ... inside, outside game ... great length, quicks off the dribble to get to the rim ... can post up, does post up BUT prefers working the perimeter going outside in vs being in the post ... BUT I qualify that by saying that he hasn't HAD TO play in the paint for the Jeeps with the like of Tyler Sommer/Jack Timothy doing the board work in the paint at both ends for SW ... Roberts will BE the BIG for the Jeeps this coming season for SW as both Timothy & Sommer graduated ...
Bennett Kayser 6-5, sr. Minford ... inside/outside game ... length, hops, tenacity on the boards at both ends ... 20 ppg/10+ rbs per game - he's a nightly double double guy ... BK can be that perimeter threat as the Falcons have one of the best rebounding post players in SEO - Jackson Shoemaker 6-4, sr. , strong in the paint, holds his ground with anyone, clears out with anyone - scores around the rim from the blocks while being a threat to take his defender out beyond the arc as he WILL take the 3, WILL hit the 3 ... and usually it's of the back to back to back variety until the defender figures out that Shoemaker is comfortable out beyond the 3 point line ...
Adam Guthrie 6-7, jr. Miami Trace ... he's an immovable body in the paint, having that 6-7, thick, strong frame to go with his 6-7 length - makes him a force at both ends on the boards ...
Cade Mock 6-7, Gallia Academy ... has a big man attitude, does not back down , a 6-7 height and a long wingspan ... he has always reminded me of a player in the development phase in the mold of the graduated post player Trent Taylor for Warren ... same type of game, might be a little more athletic imo ... indications are that Cade has shown an improved 3 point game this past summer ... I like his game at both ends of the floor, if you are going to be a big, it helps to have that tenacious attitude of "if the ball goes up I'm going to be the guy who is bringing it down" ... CM has to control his play to the point of "staying on the court" - has to stay out of foul trouble - tough job as being THAT big, the guy with a nose for the ball - all attention - including officials' - are on him ... I still like his game, I see CM having a breakout year where he takes over a game/controls a game from inside the paint at both ends ...
Logan McIntosh 6-4, Fairfield Leesburg ...length, quickness, good passer of the rock ... quick off the floor ... gets to the rim, can shoot the 3 ball ... one of the best mid-size bigs in all of SEO ...
Junior Bass, 6-4, sr Marietta... good size for SEO, strong around the rim, in the paint at both ends of the floor ... excellent footwork , length/reach ... I first saw JB at Shawnee State vs South Webster - I was impressed with the young mans game when he played for Belpre- Bass will be a big part of Marietta success in 2024-25 ... Braiden Plaugher 6-4 jr Marietta ... played mostly JV last season, got minutes in the cleanup role behind the outstanding 6-8 Alex Kendall, University of Findlay commit ...
Keegan Arnett, 6-4 sr, Fairfield Union ... probably no big man in SEO works as hard as K. Arnett in the paint ... good size for SEO, doesn't have the length, but makes up for a lot in his floor presence, a good nose for the game, "WANTS" the ball in the paint at the offensive end, quick to the spots at the defensive end ... footwork, soft hands, good body control - keep an eye KA this season ...
KB Perkins, 6-4 sr, Unioto ... solid physical body in the paint, you aren't going to move him off his spot, good rebounding technique ... midrange jumper range, good on blocks ...
Hayden Wells 6-5 sr/ Chase Lupardus 6-3 sr , Warren ... both players are true in the paint, block to block at the offensive end players ... Wells has 6-5 height, 6-8 length to go with endless energy on both ends, works hard to get open down on the blocks, works just as hard for rebounds at both ends ... 3 years of varsity experience coming off the bench to give Trent Taylor a rest ... started varsity for 3-4+ games when Taylor was out 2yrs ago with an ankle injury ... starting won't be too big for HW ... AND he is a lefty ... Lupardus, started , has started for 2 years for Coach Maddox, strong/undersized heightwise big man ... I've always thought Chase had more in the tank offensively, he's shown the ability to go up against bigger post players, with his strength - he holds his own ... he's shown games where he is as good as any big offensively (ie vs Linsly at Linsly last year) ... strong on the boards Lupardus is one of the best in SEO ...
Noah Haithcock 6-5, jr. Washington CH ... varsity experience last season as a sophomore, obvious good size for SEO ... WCH also has a 2nd BIG in Gage Merritt 6-5 sr. ...
Gunnar Myers 6-4 & Sawyer Myers 6-5 Waverly ... both played varsity for the Tigers last season ... BOTH will be big reasons for a Waverly "solid" season on the hardwood in 24-25 ...
Ed Kirk 6-5, jr. Circleville ... Ed Kirk, starter as a soph last season alongside Slater Search/Briley Cramer for the Tigers ... this season - Kirk & fellow junior 6-4 Riley Jenkins will be the bigs in Round Town ...
Sam Rupe 6-7 jr , New Lexington ...
Luke Stine 6-4 sr, Portsmouth ... Stine came off the bench for the Trojans last season at the varsity level ... showed well on the boards for Coach Lisath ... will share duties with Olynshay McKinley 6-4 jr. ...
Jake Skeens, 6-6 Chesapeake returns as the sr BIG MAN for the Panthers ... boards, sees the floor, a big part of the peake inside out passing game ... was reported to have had a good summer season for Coach Ater's Panthers ...
Logan Wolfenbarker ... 6-4 jr Portsmouth West ... size wise LW will play at least some with his back to the basket, but he has the skill set to score from anywhere on the court ... a lot to like with Wolfenbarker in a Senators uni ...
Xander Lake ... 6-4 or 5 so. Hillsboro move in from East Clinton, Lake is solid, good hands, floor vision, passer of the ball, excellent footwork on the blocks, scores the midrange jumper ... great addition to the 'boro's already talented ballclub ...
Owen Tracy 6-4+ so. Meigs / Dustin Vance 6-4+ sr. Meigs/ Reed Brinager 6-5 soph Meigs All of these players are outstanding on the boards .. are long, are double double players for a stacked talent/length/scoring wise Meigs Marauders squad...
Izaak Cox 6-5 sr & Logan Fradd 6-5 so. & Lucas Cremeans 6-3 sr Rock Hill ... the Redmen have the potential to be solid in 2024-25 ... starting with the size they have coming back ... 6-5 twin towers with another good size youngster in 6-3 so Aaron Workman gives them a chance to be strong on the defensive boards, while being able to get inside offensively/ or go inside out depending on the perimeter scoring for the Redmen ...
Bo Henry, a 6’6 junior at Piketon. With the Red Streaks losing 3 starters from last season, he will have to carry an even bigger load than he did last season.
Brody Feldhaus Fayetteville Perry listed at 6’8. With coach Joe B Stewart at the helm, I’d imagine Brody will develop. He will be the biggest player in the SHAC by far that I know of. He averaged 6.4 for the rockets last year.
Ian Spiess ... 6-4 sr New Boston ... move in from Colorado
Karson Frecka jr. 6-3 ... Chesapeake ... transfer from Coal Grove
Tweeners size wise, but hard-nosed rebounders, post players:
Stephen Jenkins ... 6-2 jr. Jackson ... crashes the boards, knows the game, is in position to attack the boards at both ends AND scores the ball both in the paint/on the blocks and can shoot the 3 ball ...
Kam Janes 6-1, sr Western Pike ... Kam is one of those players that you wish was 6-4 - outstanding rebounder in traffic at 6-1 - quick of the floor, quicker to the spot & ball ... good hops ... lefthander that scores off of the offensive boards as well getting to the rim offensively & finishes ... KJ has the shot to be an excellent perimeter scorer ... going to be tougher with the transfer of long time running mate Drew Haggy to Minford ... KJ as good as he is was comfortable being the #2 guy, hesitated to be THAT guy, BUT the young man has the game to be THAT guy ... his role for the Indians is now forcing KJ to BE that guy ...
Landon McGraw 6-2 jr. Wheelersburg ... Landon has you would expect being a "tweener" at 6-2, has an all around game - shoots the ball at all 3 levels, rebounds in a crowd, great feel for where to be on the floor to get the boards, strong on the offensive boards with the putback bucket/being a lefty is a plus ... just as all of our talented tweeners are - he sees the floor, finds the open man on the perimeter for the burg ...
Kalvin Manson 6-3 Huntington Ross ... Manson is a force on the boards, solid pick & roll type of player ... strong build ... good footwork ... inside/block to block scorer... we will be keeping an eye on this junior post player in 2024-25 ...
Landon Robinson 6-2 sr & Noah Huston 6-3 sr Zane Trace ... the inside/perimeter games of these solid rebounders & offensive threats mesh with the perimeter scoring of guards Landen Jarrell/ Ezra Rippeth ... ZT is the odds on favorites in the SVC in 24-25 largely on the shoulders of length of Huston/the strength in the paint of Robinson ... all giving the Pioneers of Coach Cassidy experience and weapons at all positions ...
Ashton Layne, 6-3 sophomore, Ironton ... Layne was outstanding for the Tigers his freshman season ... sophomore campaign should be excellent in the paint for the young man both rebounding and in the scoring column ...
Denver Clinton 6’2-6’3 Lynchburg- Clay. Averaged 17.7 ppg last year as a Sophomore.
Grady Barber 6’2- 6’3 or taller from Eastern Brown. Big sized body but with tremendous guard skills. He averaged 13 last year and expected him to be even better his junior year.
Owen Bell 6-3 jr. Logan ... Owen Bell has been a varsity starter for the Chieftains his first 2 seasons ... knee surgery limited his playing time both seasons ... I like the play of Blake Chambers sr. 6-3 ... length, shoots the ball well, quick to the ball ... Carson Tootle 6-4 soph ... size to hold his own in the paint, needs varsity time to feel the varsity game , athletic (QB1 on football team) ... the Logan size works well Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line BUT the Chiefs have their 1st season in the OCC with an OCC schedule - the OCC mold is 6-6+ in the paint, a linebacker like power foward 6-3 to 6-5, a 6-5 stretch forward with length & hops, a 3 point shooter on the perimeter to go with a sg/pg to run the show ... we'll see how the youngsters for Logan do in the OCC and with the SEO schedule they will come up with to fill out their schedule ...
Garrett Legg 6-3 sr Jackson ... transfer from Piketon
... the preseason for 2024-25 is almost in the books ... who are other BIGS that we've seen in scrimmages who we should be on our radar as an impact BIG in Southern/Southeast Ohio this season?
Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio-Preseason 2024-25
PGs to watch for Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line in the 2024-25 season:
As we all know, to be successful on the hardwood as a TEAM in the regular season, but even more important - in the post season - a TEAM must have a quality PG ... usually we think of a PG as the floor leader/ a floor general ... someone who initiates the offense, distributes the ball, controls the tempo of the game, can penetrate, dish the rock, get the ball in the hands of the scorers ... luckily in SEO we have the pleasure to watch some outstanding floor generals every season all of which contribute to the success of their respective teams in both the regular season and post season. 2024-25 will showcase some of the best we've seen from the Cheap Seats ... help me get the names of the best of the best PGs Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line out there ... I've looked at my 71 team list for the different divisions 1-7, tried to put together a list of who I feel are quality PGs in SEO - as with the BIGS in SEO that I listed on another thread, I'm going to throwout my list, BUT my purpose is get input from all of YOU, so I can learn the names of PGs/ players that I don't know ... we see names of players from the "top" teams (which we should! as the top teams usually have outstanding BIGS or tweener BIGS, PGs, shooting pgs, swing/power forwards that work together to make them top teams) BUT we all see quality bigs ... PGs ... players on teams that aren't the top teams ... I'm hoping that the names & teams of as many quality players, PGs get listed here so we/I can make an effort to go see/get eyes on/ report on/ give them props on this forum and around SEO as I travel to the different venues & talk to those on radio, in positions at local papers , other sport websites ...

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio-Preseason 2024-25
I watched those preview games … the SHAC does a great job with their preseason show … North Adams and Fairfield are for real - I have Fairfield Leesburg too low in my preseason rankings - adjustments will be made in the first couple weeks for sure … the SHAC will be solid this season …
