... the pfloyd tour made its way down to the big River this evening to take in the 1-0 Eastern Pike Eagles of Coach Leist in the home and season opener for the Wheelersburg Pirates of Coach Prater ... the 1st quarter saw all 5 starters for the Burg get in the scorebook led by jr PG Braylan Rucker's 7 points on 2/3 shooting from the FT line to go with a trey and a 2 point transition bucket ... transition was the name of the game in the opening period as WHS turned the Eagles over 6 times in the qtr with 3 of the Eastern miscues going the other way for transition buckets at the rim 1 by Rucker and one each from sr Xander Mowery and Kenyon Evans 2 pts apiece in the qtr ... jr post player Landon McGraw tallied 6 pts on a drive across the lane for 2, 2/2 from the line and a putback bucket ... Hunter Bivens accounted for 2 pts going 2/3 from the charity stripe ... for Eastern 6 turnovers and fouls putting the Burg in the bonus for over half of the qtr made life more difficult on the road ... Coach Leist got 6 pts from 5-10 jr Aiden Werner on a pair of buckets on the blocks to go with 2/2 from the line, 6-0 sr Tucker Leist added a drive to the rim 2pt & 1 (3pts), 6-1 sr Wyatt Richardson with 2pts on a rebound & putback while sr. 2 guard Declan Davis went 1/2 from the line ... Wheelersburg 18 Eastern Pike 12 after 1 ... in the second EHS turned up the D, forced Wheelersburg to cough up the ball 6 times ... I also made the drive down Route 23 to 823 from Chillicothe to catch this one. Had a feeling it would be one of the better matchups of the night and it delivered. The atmosphere inside Burg gym is always one of the better atmospheres in all of Southern/S.E. Ohio. Congrats to the Eagles on winning a hard-fought battle on the road in a hostile environment at Wheelersburg...a place not many opponents leave victorious at the final buzzer
