@pfloyd minford plays at Webster next Tuesday. Might we see a Westy sighting at the DarceeDome?

We've got some excellent "barometer" games coming up for sure with THIS one right at the top of the list , Marietta #1 in my D3 rankings @ Meigs my #1 in D5 ... Western Pike my D7 #3 @ Eastern Pike my D6 #2 ... my D7 #1 South Webster travels to the Burg my D5 #6 @ Wheelersburg is always a tough W (adds a lot of credibility to Eastern Pike my D6 #2 who went into Pirate Country and got a W) ... Saturday my D5 #1 Minford hosts my D6 #1 North Adams ... also on Saturday my D3 #2 Miami Trace goes to Round Town to take on my D4 #5 Circleville ... Saturday evening at the Chad Hodson Classic in Fairfield my D7 #2 Fairfield Leesburg will take on my D7 #3 Western Pike ... this weeks action will set the tone for NEXT week - the first full week of the 2025 half of the regular season !!! My D5 #1 Minford @ my D7 #1 South Webster

... it's all good Cameron34Crazie34! I like what Coach McClanahan puts on the floor, when you have a duo like Kegley/Wolfenbarker & throw in what Coach Mc wants to do defensively (pressure/scoring out of the transition game, etc) - the Westsiders are going to win a lot of games ... question for you - What does WHS have coming up off the JV team for NEXT season ?

JV wise our numbers are not huge. We have some size with 2 freshmen and a sophomore guard who will come back soon off an injury from football. Far as our varsity rotation goes currently we are only playing 1 Senior. I do believe we should have a great year this year but next year we should contend for that SOC crown, in which we haven’t won one since 1985

Maybe we can get you on the live stream for some color commentary.

Really thoughtful rankings PFloyd. How often do you go on past live streams to watch games and compare teams? Are you a member of NFHS national Live Stream service? Access to Hudl games? Coaches sending you film? You and Hookshot both doing wide scale rankings. Interested in how?

... not a member of NFHS live streaming ... I have access to a couple of SE district schools' Hudl feeds which helps being able to watch games, scrimmages for particular schools - one's a D3 school on the eastern side of the district and one's a D7 school on the west side of the district so I get a chance to watch a variety of schools from the hudl feeds ... the livestreams from the individual schools are great when I can't get out to see games live but many of those are not archived games ... SOSA livestreams which ARE archived, Goodguyradiotv game broadcasts, Litter Media, Total Media Sports, are all great to help watch livestreamed games AFTER I get back from traveling to get eyes on teams literally 5-6 nights per week so far this season ... I try to get to as many of the in-season classics where I can watch teams all day ... I keep napkin stats on all of the varsity games I attend ... last season I went through 3 1/2 books (115 in-person/eyes on varsity games to go with the JV games for those games/teams - I don't do the napkin stats on the JVs but it is good to see what teams have coming up for the following year) ... I'm big on NEEDING to SEE teams in person , I NEED to see the speed of the games played, player size & quickness/speed ... I NEED to see the warmups to see which teams are teaching the fundamentals of the game - passing, etc. ... I want to see which teams are disciplined teams, I want to see where the leadership on the floor is coming from - you don't get that from tape , you see that when you are there getting eyes on teams, coaches, players ... I don't think I would even try to rank teams if I didn't go see teams ... anyone can look at schedules, game scores and rank teams but I feel personally that by going to the number of games I do go to, seeing the number of teams I do see (my top 25-30 teams in my rankings I see multiple times during the season) it gives me a chance to "fairly, and knowledgeably " compare teams ... I've been ranking ALL of the teams in the SE district for almost 25 years (I started doing it over on the jjhuddle platform before coming to SEOPs) ... as far as coaches - I don't get film from coaches per se, I don't make it a point to go out of the way to talk to coaches (I respect their routines) ...over 25 years I've gotten to know many coaches across the SE District for sure - I'll try to say hello at games as I'm getting rosters from scorers table books etc. ... many have introduced themselves to ME over the years! some have come up into the cheap seats and sat down to chat hoops during the JV games - the coaches, the officiating crews , school officials across the SE district are the best people there are ... I've remained "friends in basketball" to many even after they have retired or left coaching - Coach Howie Caldwell was at the Spartan Classic this past weekend - Coach came down to the scorer's table - where I was sitting beside Lou Horvath- just to say hello, touch bases ... Coach Speed the Fairland head coach, chatted before and after his teams game vs Warren at the Spartan Classic ... I'm always honored, humbled when coaches talk hoops with me ...first that they even know who I am as pfloyd and that they respect me enough to "talk basketball" with me ... I was at one of the Beasts of the Southeast classics in Chesapeake years ago, coaching legends courtside - Coach Beucler (Eastern Brown), Coach Davis (Chesapeake at the time), Coach Speed (Fairland), Coach Caldwell (Trimble), Coach Persin (Oak Hill at the time), Coach Young (North Adams) ... I was in the Cheap Seats - Coach Dave Young of NA came up into the stands to thank me for what I do for basketball in SE Ohio - gave me Green Dragon T-shirt! said he had wanted to meet me, and shake MY hand ... anyway, I enjoy "covering high school boys hoops" Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line ... ranking the teams, promoting the game, the schools, the athletes - it's what I do ...ranking the teams? not sure why I would do it if I didn't do it the right way, and in order to do it the right way I have to throw myself into it 100% - knowing of what I'm talking about - the teams, the players, the coaches & their philosophies . etc.

I don't think anyone needs to question the veracity of your efforts Pfloyd. I've spoken to a few coaches who tell me how much they enjoy talking with you. For this season, I decided to get an NFHS pass and about half the time I can see an archived game on Hudl on demand and the other half I just pay for the live stream. You're right about the in-person "eye test" that is more helpful than just live streams. Before the season is out I'm going to meet you -- somehow. Haven't done that yet. As you might have seen I posted a combined East/Southeast ranking yesterday and it includes several dozens of game viewing and strength of schedule comparisons for nearly every team -- especially those above .500.

Anyway, following Southeast Ohio basketball wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable without your insights. Happy New Year!

P.S. You can have the day off but there are a few games even tomorrow (Thursday) worth watching :o
