The Fairfield Local High School Athletic Department is pleased to be hosting the third annual Chad Hodson Classic Presented by RoofX on Saturday, January 4.

The first two years of the Chad Hodson Classic have been an undeniable success with multiple varsity games and over $12,600 raised to benefit the Chad Hodson Memorial Scholarship.

The Chad Hodson Classic honors the life and memory of 1998 Fairfield High Graduate and former Lions coach, Chad Hodson, who passed away in 2019 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. A portion of the proceeds from the Classic will be given to the Chad Hodson Memorial Scholarship which will be annually presented to a Fairfield Senior in Chad’s memory.

THE CHAD HODSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship began as a way to pay tribute and to carry on the legacy of a great fiend, husband, father and coworker. Chad grew up in the small town of Leesburg, OH and met the love of his life, Jana at a young age. They went to grade school and high school together, but it wasn’t until their circle of friends started hanging out together that they realized they were meant for each other.

After high school graduation, Chad and Jana went to Ohio University in Athens together where they graduated, married and moved to Charleston, WV in 2002 where Chad had a job with a minor league baseball team. They lived there from 2002-2006. Their oldest child, Hannah was born there. Chad had his dream job working in baseball. The front office of a baseball team wasn’t quite the job for a family. In 2006, the Hodson family moved back to our hometown and Chad began working with Fifth Third Bank. In 2007 our son Dane was born and 2011 our daughter Landyn. Chad always worked very hard and rose the ranks at the bank and in 2009 was promoted to Investment Executive with Fifth Third Securities, Inc. As an Investment Executive, Chad flourished earning the respect of his clients and coworkers. He qualified for the annual sales conference every year and remained in that position with his Fifth Third partner Jeff Myers.

When not talking about creating investment plans and strategies, Chad was either talking about sports or his kids. Chad loved basketball, baseball and golf. He coached basketball and baseball teams before his children when they were old enough to play basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer teams He was a big fan of The Ohio state Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals and loved UNC Tar Heels. His greatest hobby that started as a senior in high school was golf, which he wishes he had started at a younger age.

Chad loved me and his kids with everything he had. Chad also was a big family man and enjoyed spending time with both sides of our family. Chad made it evident throughout His life who his ultimate teammate was and that was Jesus. He loved the Lord and allowed God to use him with adults and kids. Chad was the same man no matter if he was at home, work, coaching, church, in the community or out with friends.

Chad’s quick wittedness, his smile, sense of humor, love of his wife and children and his incredible strong faith in Jesus will always be missed but never forgotten. Chad lost his fight with cancer November 28, 2019, but his story is not yet completed. This scholarship was created to assists in helping his children and others who lost a parent in high school to fulfill their dreams and live their best life. Chad was passionate about education as so is his wife Jana, who is a teacher in the Fairfield Local School District. This passion for education in the Hodson family is what spurred the idea for this scholarship.

... All of the "classics" /in season tourneys are for good causes/remembrances of outstanding individuals within the schools, communities which are putting on the events ... I'm just passing on information to try and get "our" Southern/Southeast Ohio "sports" community out to support the events ... we have the Chad Hodson Classic this weekend, then "the Dave Young Classic: @North Adams -January 18th" all west of Rte 23 ...

Will this even be streamed anywhere today? Looks like a nice, competitive day of basketball!
