Meigs 60
Athens 45 a final

... the pfloyd tour made the short trip down Rte 33 to Athens High School to catch the TVC Ohio matchup between the Athens Bulldogs and the Meigs Marauders ... Athens entered the game at 5-4 on the season/ 2-1 in TVC Ohio play while Meigs brought an unblemished record of 10-0/ 3-0 in the league ... Athens hadn't played in almost 2 weeks with limited practices, Meigs had played 1 game during the snowmagedon of last week beating Rdsville Eastern 97-53 ... Athens although outsized overall were well prepared in that the Bulldog "goto" defense is a 3-2 matchup zone which would make it difficult getting in the paint for MHS, gave good help in the paint when the ball got inside, forced Meigs to shoot from the perimeter (25 threes on the night) - very few practices for over a 2 week period - forcing Meigs to shoot the perimeter shot was a good strategy ... for the Bulldogs - the offense was setup to get perimeter looks - putting up 32 treys on the night ... Meigs 60 Athens 45 a final ...

Athens jumped out early with back to back three's - the opening trey from freshman Collin Chapman from the right corner, this was followed by Leo Martin's 3 ball ... for Meigs 6-8 jr. Carson Davis hit a fade away jumper from 12 feet for 2pts ... in the qtr Davis would lead all scorers with 12 pts - 2 deep threes to go with a pair of inside shots on the block ... 6-5 sr. Dustin Vance was doing the dirty work down low as the senior post player scored on the baseline, and was put on the line for 4 FTs netting 2 ... PG soph Owen Tracy went 1/2 from the stripe to close out the MHS scoring at 17 ... Athens got a midrange jumper from Martin to go with 6-0 soph Weston Wheatley being fouled on a three point shot, the sophomore dropped 2 of 3 from the line ... Meigs 17 Athens 10 after one ... the 2nd frame was played close with Meigs taking the period 14-12 ... Athens after putting up 12 threes in the 1st, cut down on the attempts - 5 in the quarter cashing in on 3 with Chapman/Wheatley and 6-4 jr Zach Mullins all getting 1 in the scorebook ... the only other scoring in the qtr was a 2 pter on the blocks by 6-4 sr. Easton Nuzum ... Meigs was lead again by the trio of 6-4 sr. Cayden Gheen with a pair of putback buckets (4pts) , Vance continued to be a force in the paint working hard for 2 buckets at the rim and 1/4 from the FT line (5pts) ... Davis continued to be the main offensive weapon as he hit three ball #3 on the game to go with a midrange jumper from 12 ft (5pts) ... Meigs 31 Athens 22 at the half ... Meigs with the size advantage was never really able to force its' will on the offensive end to open up the game ... Athens stayed relatively close throughout the 3rd as they put up 13 points to the Marauders' 14 in the period ... the closest the Bulldogs could get was 31-37 at the 3:29 mark in the 3rd ... Athens 6-4 sr. Easton Nuzum carried the Athens mini run with an 8 pt offensive qtr. ( a midrange jumper for 2, a pair of buckets on the block 4pts and a putback basket for 2 pts/ 8 in the period) ... Wheatley added 2 pts in transition and Martin 2 pts on a drive & finish at the rim to go with 1/2 from the foul line ... Meigs kept the separation on back to back offensive boards and putbacks by 6-6 sophomore Reed Brinager his first points of the game ... Vance added 2 more points in the lane ... while Brinager/Vance handled the scoring in the paint Davis continued his assault on the rim from behind the arc, the big junior hit three pointers 4 & 5 on the game to go with 2/2 from the line (8pts/25 for the gm) ... Meigs 45 Athens 35 after 3 ... to open the 4th Davis drained three ball number 6, followed by a Brinager bucket in the paint to lead the Marauder's 5-0 run to start the qtr ... at 5:46 on the clock the score stood Meigs 50 Athens 37 ... by 3:04 in the game MHS was up 56-43 with Meigs winning the final 3 minutes 4-2 ... Athens put up 9 more threes in the period with Wheatley hitting the lone triple in the qtr for AHS ... on the game Athens attempted 32 threes connecting on 6 while Meigs countered with 25 attempts netting 6 - all by Carson Davis ... Meigs 60 Athens 45 a final ...

12 for 57 from 3 is wild

I know both teams are zone oriented, but that’s a rough game to watch.
