Miami Trace (1) vs Steubenville (1)

Post by TheOHIOBully »

Alright who does everyone got? and prediction?

I don’t know much about Steubenville but what have found out.

Steubenville: 20-3
Conference - Ohio Valley: 6-1
Key losses
New Lex: 62-60 ( neutral site )
St. Clairsville: 71-69 ( away )
Morgan Town: 70-64 ( neutral)

Tallest starter 6”2
Well coached team, that shoots very well
Takes care of the ball, shares the ball at a high level.
Creates alot of turnovers.
When they win they win big. All wins by 11 or more
Closest win was by 11 vs Malvern ( neutral site )
82-71

This will be in my opinion the best “ full team “ trace has faced this year…when i say full i mean everyone is involved.

Maxpreps has their strength of schedule 5.0
compared to Trace 3.6

My opinion
Trace wins
on paper it looks likeTrace should handle this team with ease.
My Common sense says This team will give Trace some problems.
Trace plays zone, this team will knock down open shots
Trace play man who does Guthrie stick???

Don't know a ton about Steubenville but they can shoot the three ball very well and score in bunches. I know they did have two kids transfer over from WV for this season. The Davis kid who is signed on to play at West Liberty and Will Taylor who transferred over from Linsly who I have seen a few times in their games against Warren.

Big Red did have two transfers return. Both Aiden Davis and Will Taylor attended the Steubenville City Schools thru their 8th grade. Neither moved, Davis choose to go to Wheeling Park and Taylor enrolled at The Linsly School. Their return has boosted the Big Red's basketball hopes.

An interesting tidbit, all five starters played football for the Big Red.

#1 Aiden Davis(Sr) 17.5
#12 Will Taylor(Sr) 15.1
#2 Santino Haney(So) 13.2
#3 Trey Wiggins(Jr) 12.0
#5 Cole Bowers(Jr) 7.4

They share the ball well with an average of 17.0 assists per game. Defensively they average 12.5 steals a game. Big Red is not very tall as Cole Bowers at 6'2' is the tallest starter. #22 JoJo Rea at 6'3" provides some additional size off the bench. Chemier Adams and Jerry Hinton are backups at guard.

Head Coach Mike Haney's son, Santino, a sophomore is another excellent player and it will be an interesting matchup with Miami Trace point guard Gage Bowers.

Question: Haney was awfully good as a freshman last year. How good is he going to be next year?

This year he changed his approach as a primary scorer, he averaged around 20 points a game last year. This year he has deferred to Davis and Taylor, although he can score when needed, 13.4 points a game. His defense is excellent and his Basketball IQ is off the charts, as is his teammates. An 85% foul shooter and 54% field goal shooter. He's 20 for 63, 32% from three point range. 6.4 steals per game and 3.1 steals per game along with 4 rebounds a game.

Steubenville really impressive against a really good Tri Valley team. They are quick and a 3 headed monster at guard. Should be a good one.

Miami Trace’s zone is really effective due to their length. Sounds like Steubenville can shoot it. In wonder if they will be able to get many clean looks?

On paper Miami Trace moves on easily, If Warren would’ve beat Trace they also move on easily “ on paper “

But the game isn’t played on paper its played on a court.

Good Luck Steubenville fan

Why would anyone think any team beats Steubenville “easily”. Makes no sense.
