No clue.
Every other year has been really competitive in the Sweet 16 over the last 3 trips, so this could be the bad one if you follow that trend.

Marion River Valley plays in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference with the following teams: Marion Harding, Shelby, Galion,Ontario, Marion Pleasant, Clear Fork and Sparta Highland. River Valley finished 1st in the conference with a 13-1 Record. Marion River Valley is the only team from the MOAC that is still playing. I look for the all league information but could not find any for 24-25 season. The League website lists stats leaders thru the regular season.
Marion River Valley had none in the top 5 of scoring, 1 player 6th in rebounding with 6 a game, 3 in the top 6 for assists, 2 in top 6 for steals with having number 1 in steals with 2.1 a game, and 1 player 3rd in blocks per game at .8- so looks like River Valley may be guard orinented type of team but have no information to so say just going by league stats.
Will say year and year out this league produces decent basketball teams so would guess that Marion River Valley is a pretty decent team.

River Valley is 23-2 and finished 13-1 in league play. RV has wins over Bloom Carroll, and they have a loss to Watterson.

Re: Unioto vs Caledonia River Valley
Unioto loses by 1 in overtime. Shot a 2 with 4 seconds left and no timeouts. Unioto should’ve won this game but would just get leads and take horrible shots or turn it over. Once again Unioto just can’t close it out against good teams. I know they’re good players but I’ll never understand the shot selection of Blake Fitch and Hoops.
Re: Unioto vs Caledonia River Valley
Also for what it’s worth, RV’s guards were allowed to hack and play the most physical defense all game. #1 should’ve had 10 fouls
Re: Unioto vs Caledonia River Valley
1st will say was a fun game to watch. However, Unioto controlled the game but that 4th quarter with just unforced turnovers and missed free throws- think at near end of 3rd quarter Unioto was 13 for 13 on FT- then the 4th. Unioto will look back say just what if- Game Unioto should have won- but great season and good talent coming back for the U. Much like the girls the 4th quarter did the U in.

Re: Unioto vs Caledonia River Valley
Finch missed a few lay up shots early in the game and Hoops, I think, thinks he is going to get a fouled called every time- but hey- in a game like that the misses and misplays stand out even more.Tanks3232 wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 7:48 pm Unioto loses by 1 in overtime. Re: Unioto vs Caledonia River Valley
Turning point of the game was when Unioto had an 8-10 point led in the middle of the 4th and had a 3 on 1 fast break and tried to get too cute and pass it too much and ended up turning it over instead of taking the layup

Re: Unioto vs Caledonia River Valley
Couple observations from this game from a non-Unioto fan:
1. I have seen Unioto four times this season either live or online. They play very hard on defense for the most part. Still, I have never left the game not thinking that they force many shots, specifically very deep 3's or 3's off the dribble and/or contested. This game was no different. A couple of them went in early but it cost them when Unioto was up 8-10 points in the 4th quarter. Forcing things that are not there in critical situations. Little to no screening on offense.
2. Two of the three ref's (oddly, the two that were local), showed they had no business officiating a regional game. Everyone says tourney basketball is "physical" and I agree. This game was not physical. This was a football contest! #1 for River Valley looked like he was on a mission to injure #3 Fitch. Grabbing, holding, slapping, shoving are not to be part of the game. They are fouls and if they were called Unioto wins this game by 10+ points. These officials should be ashamed of themselves because they directly determined the outcome by their incompetence or intentionally neglecting to follow the rules of the game.
I was sitting across from the benches on Unioto's end of the court second half. I had a very good look at the last play in regulation. #3 went to the basket hard and was fouled multiple times on the same drive with a shove in the back and a slap down on the arm that you could hear. No call.
Fitch was fouled literally every trip down the floor with hands all over him. Bumped and hit off his line right in front of the trailing official-no call time after time. This had nothing to do with basketball skill. Fitch is a very nice guard with great handles that was negated somewhat, not by physical play, but by blatant fouls.
Sad!
All that said, Unioto could have sealed the game by taking care of the ball and running sets or something to get good shots when it mattered most. However, if just hard obvious fouls were called, then Unioto wins anyway.

I'm perfectly sane, but you might be a little crazy. Im a bit old to be his dad, but thanks for the compliment.
Heck, not even a routine follower of Unioto, just a fan that watched a game and multiple others at the Convo and noted what I saw. Guess what? Everyone around my area was commenting on the same things and I was not in the Unioto section..lol
My advice would be to blow the whistle or hang it up.

Have no beef with you or anyone. Heck I dont even follow Unioto. But if you watched that game and didnt think the physical contact impacted the game and exceeded what should be allowed in basketball, then I dont know what to tell you.Lovehoops4 wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 3:07 pmImagine telling a official who is working there 4 state tournament in a row to hang it upSoutheastHoopsWizard wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 2:23 pm I'm perfectly sane, but you might be a little crazy. About every game I have watched this year in the tourney has been physical. This game was way past physical. I am 66 years old and followed basketball in this area for many years and it was the worst I've seen, state tourney ref or not.
Re: Unioto vs Caledonia River Valley
Thought Unioto let the game get away-- should have used a time out or two in the last minutes of the game-maybe it would have slowed Valley down a bit. Just sayin
