Steubenville 69
Miami Trace 52 a final
...Undefeated Miami Trace at 23-0 vs the Steubenville Big Reds 20-3 with one of the losses to Southeast District New Lexington ... #1 seed in the East vs #1 seed in the Southeast ... How could it NOT be a great game? weeeellllllllll maybe if one team committed or was forced into 22 turnovers while the other team put up 31 points off those turnovers ... oooorrrrr maybe one team defensively held the other team to 2 fgs in one quarter then defensively backed it up holding the same team to only 4 fgs in another quarter ... maybe if one team outscored the opposing team in 3 quarters vs what the other team scored for the entire game ... Steubenville 69 Miami Trace 52 a final ...
... Miami Trace could not have started off the game any better - the number 1 option in the paint 6-7 Adam Guthrie scored on 5 touches down low at the rim - 3 fgs from entry passes and 2 fgs when the big post player put the ball on the floor - drive and finished at the rim 10 pts in the quarter for Guthrie ... the supporting cast - supported ... 6-4 sr Trey Robinette scored on a transition finish at the rim 2pts and 3pter from the corner 5pts for the stretch forward ... stretch forward #2 sr. 6-4 Skye Salyers drained the Panthers second trey of the quarter ... with Cade Whitaker's fouled in the act of shooting 2/2 from the line MT had dropped a 20 spot in the opening quarter ... I looked at the Steubenville season stat lines prior to the game - Aiden Davis 17 ppg, Linsly School transfer Will Taylor 15.3 ppg, Santino Haney, the coach's son, 13ppg, and Tre'von Wiggins 12ppg , Cole Bowers 8 ppg - MT BETTER be putting up 20 points per quarter ... this was coming from a lineup that had no one taller than 6-1 ... in my little mind - speed kills, quick hands on D, they get out in transition, on ball pressure , you better find and closeout on the shooters which are ALL of them ... the Big Red even though they allowed 20 pts on D turned MT over 3 times taking one to the house for 2 points ... 4 of the 5 starters scored in the quarter Aiden Davis the #1 option with 5pts on a drive & score to go with an open triple ... Cole Bowers the low man on the scoring pole hit the first 2 fgs of the quarter for SHS both 3 pointers 6pts ... Haney pulled up & hit a 15 ft jumper (midrange - who does that?) ... Wiggins with a strip, steal, score in transition 2pts ... Miami Trace 20 Steubenville 15 after 1 ... the whole "MT being able to get the ball into the paint" to Guthrie in the 1st quarter was an illusion or a setup ... Guthrie got the ball in the paint, put the ball on the floor for a tough, physical finish inside 2pts ... next time the ball was put down into the paint to Guthrie he was fouled hard , put on the line miss/make ... something different was taking place ... on the next attempt to feed the post - turnover ... any ball coming into the post where the ball was put on the floor was met with hands attacking the ball ... MT was forced into 8 second period turnovers ... the only other points in the quarter for MT was Salyers' #2 trey of the game ... 6 pts ... Steubenville threw in 19 pts in the frame ... 5-11 sr Aiden Davis hit a pair of those "almost extinct" midrange jumpers 4pts sandwiched between them- two triples from Court Street 10 pts in the qtr/15 for the first half almost hitting his game average for the season (17ppg)... 5-11 soph Santino Haney hit his 2nd pullup 15 footer 2pts ... 6-1 sr Will Taylor scored on a pair of transition buckets 4pts and 3/4 from the FT line 7pts in the qtr ... Big Red quickness on D, feeling out how Miami Trace was going to attack the paint with Guthrie then taking it all away while using their speed on defense to take away the supporting options - Bowers was scoreless in the opening 2 quarters / Baker 0 pts in 2 qtrs/ Salyers & Robinette were held to 1 fg at the rim ... Guthrie did his damage in the 1st/ 13 pts for the half - who knew he would only get 2 pts the rest of the game ... Steubenville 34 Miami Trace 26 after 2 ... if the strategy worked in the 2nd in holding MT to 6 pts ... in the 3rd more of the same - Guthrie was held scoreless... Robinette & Salyers were able to use their length to get a couple buckets in the paint , Baker used his strength to get into the paint for 2pts , Salyers dropped his 3rd trey of the game ...Bowers was still scoreless after the third 8 minutes ... the Big Red D turned the Panthers over 7 more times in the 3rd/18 turnovers thru 3 periods of play ... with the 5 treys in the opening half - MT had to close out on shooters which was anyone with the ball on the perimeter - speed/quickness ... show the three go to the rim - Taylor scored on two drives to the rim 4pts/ Haney on a blow by drive & score 2pts ... a second drive was blocked but Haney with the board & a putback for 2 ... Bowers after hitting a pair of treys in the opening quarter, showed the three , went into the paint for 2pts ... Aiden Davis drained an open 3 ball ... then on his next touch, the defender closed out , Davis to the rim for 2 pts ... on his next possession with the defender not knowing whether to guard the 3 or take away the driving lanes he gave Davis space which he used to drill his 2nd three of the quarter 5th for the game thru 3 ... 20 points for the Big Red offense that had the MT defense out of sync ... the SHS defense had held the MT offense to 15 points in the middle 2 quarters while the O put up 39 pts ... Steubenville 54 Miami Trace 35 after 3 ... the score made the strategy easy for Steubenville going into the 4th ... keep the clock running ... in one possession SHS took 1:40 seconds off the clock ... MT had their best offensive quarter of the game ...at 5:45 on the clock Steubenville was up by 20pts at 59-39... Julian Baker with a putback bucket for 2 pts ... Guthrie with 2 points in the paint (15 pts for the game)... Baker with a transition bucket 2pts ... Bowers a 3 pointer - his first points of the game ... MT went on a 10-0 run to draw to within 10 pts at 52-62 with 3:24 to play ... the Big Red shut out MT the rest of the way while taking care of business at the FT line ... going 13/15 in the 4th and final quarter of action ... Steubenville Big Red 69 Miami Trace 52 a final ...

Another excellent write up!!!!
Steubenville is a very scrappy team, they cause their opponents to make mistakes than they make you pay…..I do have Hartley beating them in the next round…i also thought Hartley would’ve beat Trace if they moved on.
