I was watching the last MC steam the other night while I was reading and fiddling around. I let the stream end without doing anything and the next thing that came on was a video of the last 5 minutes of Skyvue’s ‘85 championship game against Jackson Center. I never saw that game. I’m sorry that was heartbreaking. I wish I could’ve seen more of the game. Would have to have seen more of Mitch Hannah’s game.

What stuck out to me though was when the game was over Hilverding went over to the Jackson Center bench and congratulated each player. What great show of sportsmanship. Y’all deserved that win.

Yeah, Mitch fouled out of that game with like 3:00 minutes left and the team kind of fell apart after that. Obviously the missed free throws were the difference. Strategic mistake made was trying to play stall ball without your point guard and leader still on the floor. We should have kept playing and looking to score.
What most forget who weren't there is the 84 team was actually better than the 85 team. At least we were playing better at the end of 84 than we did all year in 85. The 84 team lost by 1 to Wherle in the state semi-final after knocking off #1 Wellsville in the regional. That Wehrle team had 3 future D1 players on that team (2 went to OSU and another to Evansville), yet Mitch was still the best player on the floor. Supporting cast let him down. The Skyvue 84 squad only had one Senior who started (Brad Bettinger) but he was a key piece of that team. He was our version of Draymond Green and did a lot of the little things that helped in winning.

Heard a story (unconfirmed) that Hilverding played against JCs star player in college and became friends. Then he coached against that guy's daughters in the state tournament and told him he owed him one (I think Hilverding's daughter had graduated by then). Turns out Waterford beat them on a last second shot. They said he felt bad for the guy afterwards and worse for the kids but was still happy to win.
I think I might have taken the opportunity to do a little dance. LOL

MC is the favorite here. I think the schedule they have played bodes well for them now. Kirtland has good guard play which will be interesting to see how MC matches up (defensive assignments) with them. I haven't seen MC live much but the Warren game was convincing, in my opinion. After this, I think the Marion Local matchup would be very interesting. ML can match up with MC physically and that could be a dandy and ML would probably be the favorite in Vegas. Interesting too, that MC could play two football powerhouses in the state basketball final four. Doesn't necessarily mean anything except that the style of play could be similar and i think MC has the ability to play or handle different styles better than the other teams. Again, just my opinion. Regardless, will be rooting for the 'Noles.

Monroe Central has to have, generally speaking, the worst fans I've heard this season. Not every call/noncall that goes against you is the wrong call.

No need to act like children and boo the refs every single time and even as the refs walk off the court at halftime. Not sure I've seen that one before

Objectively speaking they have had more calls go against them than for them, worst officiated game throughout the playoffs so far. Not terrible but not that good either. Gym is plenty big enough.

Let me solve your dilemma. Turn the sound off.

I have listened to their live streams long enough to know they could be up 27 points with 3 minutes to go and act the way they are right now.

Don't think circumstances of tonight make their behavior justified.

PS: love their team and hope they win. They are a great collection of talent and effort. I just think the way I do about their fans.

Great win by Monroe Central! First time during the playoffs they had to grind it out and find a way to win. Didn't always take care of the ball, but turned Kirtland over very well and just did their jobs.

Monroe County finally getting back to the state final! It's a great thing to see.

Yes, indeed. You know I'm happy. As for the gripes about the fans, they are very passionate, especially this deep into the tourney. Those who don't like the MC fans protest, have obviously never been to a Seminoles football game, LOL!

Listen - passionate fanbase for sure and I'd rather have a passionate than dispassionate fanbase for sure. But you can tell when a line is crossed. ;)

From what I could hear, it was very mild. When I was in high school and playing, there were so many schools up in arms about our student section that I was not sure we'd have any fans left in the stands. Was I proud about that? No, but honestly, most of the noise was in jest and pretty innocuous. That said, the refs really didn't appreciate some of the chants, but they were classic for the late 70's and early 80's. Today, they would not fly. Let's face it, parents, in particular, can be pretty insufferable now. I wasn't in the stands, so I do not know what all was said. Let's do better Seminole fans in Dayton.
