Was Waginger the original super team builder of ohio? Ironton must have been the Cleveland Cavs to Websters Miami Heatavalanche wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 10:02 am Those two are very good and deserve a ton of respect, but it's a giant leap to say they were better than Aldridge and Waginger (two D1 players), or Waginger and Gagai at Ironton (two D1 players).

Noel and Maughmer
Current starters at Wright State and Liberty.
If they aren’t the best duo ever in SE, I think they have the best trio when you add Beard.

They would be towards the top I would assume.AnkleBraces wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 6:30 pm Noel and Maughmer

Early 2000s Belpre was scary. Nick Morey was an absolute monster. Best TVC player I’ve seen (and played against) and if memory serves, gave Burleson the work in the 2001 district finals. Yes they were. I'm not trying to come across as the Minford guys aren't good, but we are talking duo's that were just better imo. No offense to Minford, but the Ironton team from 05 was far better than Minford. They gave OJ Mayo and Bill Walker all they could handle in the title game. Waginger is the best pure point guard I've seen in SEO in 20+ years. He was a D1 starting guard for a reason. I'd take the duo of Ironton and SW all day.
I'm not sure what the comment about the two Minford guys being D1 back then. Neither are and neither would have been imo.
There have been so many great duo's honestly. Nick Morey and Klien at Belpre---Gagai and Waginger at Ironton---Aldridge and Waginger at SW---Carter and Fletcher Ironton---Miller and Spradlin Wheelersburg.
Ironton was the best SEO team I have seen since I started paying attention in 94. They took Cin Christian Hills to the wire in the state title game.

Morey was an absolute stud. I believe they were heavily favored the next year to make a final four repeat and got upset by Chesapeake in the districts.Sweater poorly knit wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 11:42 pmEarly 2000s Belpre was scary. Belpre from 1993-early 2000s was a wagon. Their arguably most talented team was 96(?). They started 6’6”, 6’8”, and 6’10”. Simpson and Hopkins were studs. They didn’t make it out of the regional due to a guy named Esteban Weaver. And Joe Garrett could coach against anyone.Sweater poorly knit wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 11:42 pmEarly 2000s Belpre was scary. Brigham Waginger and Nick Aldridge were one heck of a duo. Brig can D up and score and as far as Nick no explanation is needed for him. I would put them up against anyone. They both brought it on defense and offense.

Can’t we just enjoy them for what they were?
They were two pillars of a group that has been a lot of fun to cheer for.

James Dempsey and Rick Edwards at Peake in early 90’s is best duo I’ve seen in SE district. Dempsey played at Marietta and Edwards at Richmond. Nathan Hughes and Ryan Ramey were in OVC and really good pair during the same time at Fairland.
Re: Montgomery and Kayser the best duo in southeast ohio
Suffice to say, there are a number of duos, from different decades, across the entirre region, that could be labeled the best ever. We will never know, because the competition and talent levels are rarely the same.
Anyway, they led their TEAM, both successfully competitively. They showed up every game
