Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
This maybe one of the better DIII tournaments in some time. Usually a couple upsets in the sectionals in DIII, seems like more so than any others.

Some great games for sure at both sites in the near future. I'm going to as many as I can. That's the good thing about retirement this time of the year.

Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
Portsmouth played its best overall game of the year Friday with a 64-55 win at Chesapeake. The Trojans had as much as a 17 point lead, 14 going into the 4th quarter. To do that at Chesapeake is virtually unheard of, considering that the Panthers are almost unbeatable on their court. PHS plays 4 games this week, with a huge OVC game at Fairland on Friday. If the Trojans can go 4-0, it will make them 14-5, and they could possibly sneak into that #3 slot.

Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
D3 is very deep this year, with 15 teams combined from both sectionals with winning records, 14 of which have at least 10 wins. The SE D3 has a very good chance of winning the regional. Ironton at 8-8 will be a very tough out for anybody, considering that they have been close in almost every game and are probably the most physical team in the field.

Danicalifornia, just curious why you have Adena above Westfall? The Mustangs beat Adena by 20+ points in there last meeting (1/26/16) and they haven't lost to any teams with a losing record, unlike Adena losing to East Clinton. Both played Circleville and lost, but the Mustangs lost by 15 and Adena lost by 29. Both played Unioto and lost, Westfall lost by 9 (2nd game this Friday 2/5) and Adena lost by 21 and 26. As well as Westfall has also beaten league opponents by a larger margin then Adena has. Is it because of one player? Thomas?danicalifornia wrote:Valley

Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
It's just how I think it ends up. I feel that Westfall is the better team between the 2, but for some reason I believe Adena will be seeded higher. They could just end up being in the 4/5 game together, so it wouldn't overall matter then.Karl wrote:Danicalifornia, just curious why you have Adena above Westfall? Thank you for your response. I enjoy watching Westfall and I felt they should be just ahead of Adena, but that Thomas can play.danicalifornia wrote:It's just how I think it ends up. Do you think the Sectional will give Adena move votes, since Coach Younkin is an outsider? Meaning someone who is not a true Southeast District Coach. That has crossed my mind.

If Portsmouth ends up at #5, that race for the 3 between Adena and Westfall is a huge one.

Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
Valley looks like they are closing in on grabbing the #1. The Indians improved to 16-2 with an uninspired 56-41 win at South Webster last night. Only a trip (and a tricky one) to Waverly Friday stands between 17-2 and a probable #1 for Valley. The Indians need to take care of business Friday before a huge final week of the season in which visits from Wheelersburg and Minford will decide the SOC title.

Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
That may be it, they may be more knowledgable about Coach Smith and more familiar with him. But, really if it comes down to SOS, it should be Westfall above Adena. They are both capable teams, but I do think both would want to avoid Portsmouth if possible.Karl wrote:Thank you for your response. Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
The argument for Adena over Westfall would be like this: Adena's best league win is over Westfall. Westfall's best win is over Adena; Adena's worst league loss is to Westfall. Westfall lost to ZT. Adena's best non league win is Harvest Prep probably which is at least as good as Westfall's best win against Ready. It is very close as far as resumes are concerned. If the league plays out as current standings would indicate (far from a given, Adena could be beaten by PV or ZT) or Westfall could upset Unioto I guess, but barring an upset, Adena would finish 2nd in the league and Westfall 3rd. With all that said, I also believe that Westfall probably is a little better team, but I think Adena has earned the higher seed.
Re: Division 3 Sectional Records
I wonder too when all of the coaches will lock in their votes. I believe the voting has to be in by Friday at 12:00 am which will mean some coaches may lock in before Fridays games. This may not affect SVC voting but could if coaches outside their league vote early. Also, you never know what behind the scenes deals are being made with these coaches. Its possible teams want a certain matchup that could change the logical order. Either way, both teams will have winnable games to get to the convo if they succeed in their first game. Remember, Huntington did a number on Zane Trace last year.
