count
well lets see
you have austin and chris as seniors
will, dam, clay, eric, and cory as juniors
jerm,scotty,zach and jacob as sophs
jms who would you have left? that's 11.
really you want 14-15 on varsity alone. where does meigs get 12 more kids to make a jv?
the rest are freshmen.

15 kids for strictly varsity??? I dont know any schools around here that have that many kids only playing varsity. I'm sure 2/3 of those sophmores, that wont get to see much varsity time will play some JV, if not mostly JV...you dont need 12 kids for a JV team...8 or 9 would do the trick really.
oh, and good luck to 2 former Belpre assistants, both seemed to work with the kids very well, so like someone else said...if the parents or whoever is always making a fuss down there will let these men do their jobs...then Meigs basketball may be turned around before too awful long.

14-15 kids on a basketball team is WAY too many. You can only play 5 at a time, so there is absolutely no reason to keep that many on one team. Heck I only like to carry 13-14 (15 at the most) on a high school baseball team and you play 9 at a time there. I seriously doubt Coach Ewing will have that many on his varsity roster.
Re: count
a good number for most coaches is about ten that would be 5 on 5 in practice and not to many in the games....cody laudermilt is a sophmore and gabe hill is a jrfasteach wrote:well lets see

ok
hey beleague where do you get 8 or 9. we have 11-13. to put 8 on jv leaves you 5 for varsity.
jms if we have 10 on varsity can we play 3 on jv?
remember only 4 quarters a night if you have a jv player play he is done if he plays the whole game
and yes you want at least 13 kids on varsity kids foul out and get tired. at wellston last coach abbot run out of players and i believe he carried 13.

I never said you HAD that many, ,just that it would be ENOUGH...I was just saying that would do the trick. I'm sure theres kids in that school system that could play JV basketball...they just need to do a little recruiting I guess...hopefully they'll get at least 17 or 18 out to field say...8 or 9 strictly varsity...depending on the kids skill levels, then have one or two kids play 3 quarters a night in the jv game...and the other 7 or so kids strictly JV.
again..I dont think you need 15 kids strictly varsity...thats just wasteful really...theres no way all 15 kids will get the playing time and attention they need to better their skills.

understood, what worries me is the possibility that say you have 13 fresmen will you create friction if you put say 8 on jv with a few sophs and the rest on a fresmen team?
the varsity also, in my opinion, is top heavy in guards. what do you do?
i think you keep the extra guards because they will get their chance to play. maybe let the suit up for both teams. meigs will play teams with strong guard play and they can gain experience. the big guys can be counted on 1 hand and i'm talking all 3 spots you have 4 guys for 3 spots. tight!
coaches call right.

I would be interested about hearing if Tolar went to Wahama, and if Smith stayed at Wahama.
I ran into Jordan Smith's cousin down in Oak Hill back in the summer and he said that Jordan was working at a golf course somewhere and as far as he knew he was planning on staying at Wahama. I haven't heard anything for sure though. As for Tolar, I haven't heard anything about him since the summer either and at that time he was strongly considering leaving Meigs because all of the other area teams were in shootouts but Meigs wasn't because they hadn't hired a coach yet at that time.

info
jottings look on meigs high website it's posted first game is gallipolis 11/30.
yes the roster is about set
centers chris good. will barcus
forwards dam wise, eric tolar, cory hutton, austin dunfee
guards jeremy smith, jacob well, clay bolin, gabe hill
there is a couple kids i don't know so i'm not sure where they play. my guess would be guards.
this could be a real good team if all the boys and the coaches get together. as young men, they have won on every other level. i just wish they had some more senor leadership. the junior class is really talented as is the sophs. could be the team to beat, or they could explode. see you in march. i'm betting they do well in the play-offs. has meigs ever won a basketball play-off? these guys CAN.
