Add Smith to that list and I will second that opinion.

although Cozart might be the best out of Eastern, I would put Joe Brown and Matt Simpson in front of him, maybe even Karr and Lyons.
Cozart was the best overall scorer of this group. He could pull up from good range, penetrate, and create his own shot. Joe Brown was the most creative, solid finisher I've seen in the post at Eastern in a long time. Thing about these two though, was their lack of defense. Matt Simpson was a nice overall player. 6'6" who could shoot, post up, and run the point. Karr and Lyons, however, are my picks. What they lacked in height, they made up with physical and mental toughness. They were quick, could shoot the 3 consistently, and loved to pressure D. My kind of players. All these guys were a pleasure to watch.

How about this one for a starting 5. All VC grads and all related We'll call it the all relative team. :-D

Andy Booth PG (91-94) 4 year starter
Harold Caudill (71-74) VC rebound leader
Jason Caudill (89-91) Didnt play senior year due to injury but a monster in the middle
Ryan Caudill (not sure) VC's all time scoring leader (over 1500 pts)
Dustin Guthrie (2005-pres) Will score 1000 pts and should be 2 time TVC POY
(Harold is Ryan and Jasons dad and Dustin and Andy's Uncle)
A team would have to work hard to get a board vs these guys.

Mid-late 80's - Scott McConky (Belpre) (sp on last name?)

He was the all time scoring leader at Belpre until Kent Garrett was born and then Jordan Thornhill....These guys may have been born at least Kent....lol

It was Ryan McConney and boy he could play. His parents still live in Belpre and his dad could play in his day too[Athen High]

All TIME TVC TEAM

Post by scooper »

It's amazing that people ask these questions and they list players from the last five years.

What about Gatchel? I know Bartrum and Chancey at Meigs both earned District Player of the Year Honors
Scoot Bragg, the lis goes on
If you ask a question like that don't look back the last two or thrre years, go back 20 or more

I think the most dominating player I've seen in the TVC (granted I'm still young) is Nick Morey. He was a man amongst boys out there.

Its Ryan McConkey from Belpre, not McConney.

I would love to see this years Vinton County team play either the 1993 or 2001 Belpre teams.

I really feel that the 1993 Belpre team and this years Vinton County team maybe the 2 best teams ever to come out of the TVC.

I'm curious if you've seen Dustin Guthrie play this season. Not saying he's better than Morey, it's just that I've often thought to myself that he looked like a man amongst boys this season.

That's a good question, and Guthrie does play like a man among boys. My only question would be the level of the TVC as a whole. I am not saying it is certainly down, but in Morey's main dominant year, the TVC had two teams in the final four (Eastern and Belpre).

I also know that Eastern was not unbeaten in the TVC Hocking, and only lost 2, maybe 3 games total, including the final four game. I would guess a D4 final four team would be unbeaten in the Hocking Division this year, but I could be wrong.

At the same time, I was the same age as Morey, so he seemed more like a "man" to me then. It was impressive just how big, strong, and good he was when he played. Maybe someone who has watched both of them as an adult would have a better perspective.

I'd say you have to go with Morey over Guthrie. Morey was so gifted athletically it wasnt even really fair. IMO, if they were to go one on one, Morey as a senior and Guthrie now, Morey takes him nearly every time. This is not to take anything away from Guthrie because he is absolutely dominating the TVC this year and is a heck of a player.

^^^^Agreed. Morey was a great athlete, still is, as is Guthrie. But, I think Nick is the better basketball player.

And, I have to agree with Orestes's point of the TVC back when Morey played. It was a much better conference from top to bottom then what it is this year or the past couple. Dustin can't help that and you can't hold that against him but the conference had to be good to put 2 teams into the Final Four.
